Programming Key Fob on Dodge Ram - Bad Wrench

- In this video, we had a subscribe request for programming keys on a Dodge Ram. They wanted to know if you can program keys if you only have one key so we will put it to the test. I show you how to program key fobs for a 08 Dodge Ram. I have to program these keys because the truck will not start or stay running if it does not recognize the key you put in the ignition. You can cut a key but that is only the second step. When I cut keys I always cut from the vin code at the dealer so I get the best possible key. If you cut your new keys with a old key it maybe wore out and not work in the ignition. This does not work if you or someone else changed out the ignition tumbler. This program is easy and you will need 2 stock ignition keys to program any other keys. You can program up to 8 keys in total.

That is correct I only had one key when I bought a used 2006 Dodge I had to go to a locksmith and he popped me 90 bucks for a cut and program. I would hate to go to a dealer and see what they charge.
Can I reprogram my original? I dropped it, the plastic came apart I put it back together. It still works to unlock and lock but I tried to start the truck and shutoff and doing the anti theft system
It sounds like the key fob itself is broken because if part of it is working, then the issue is due to physical damage. Is your truck newer than 08? I know remote start was an option in newer models. I am asking because only Ram built in 2010 and newer has to be programmed with a computer. Meaning dealership or an automotive locksmith.

You will need to have a car dealership program the second key if it is a Ram truck.
Well to be honest it is a dodge dakota 4x4 v6 3.7 2010 twin cab slt not sure if is posible coz key has a way to doit by it selfe but ill try and ill tell you :)
Hey I have an 06 with the original keyless entry key and the spare without the keyless entry buttons. Can I program a new keyless entry key from Amazon or whoever with those 2, or do I need 2 original keyless entry fobs?
You will need two different key fobs to program more keys. If you are in good with a dealership they may do it cheaper.
If you have 2 keys your can program the Amazon fobs. I did and it worked flawless.
Dodge and RAM are two separate divisions. Any Ram Truck manufactured after 2008 is Ram, not Dodge Ram. Also, you can't program a key, but you can program a key fob.

I kind of have to disagree my 2006 the key head has the chip in it so it is all one piece so I don’t know if it’s a play on words or what you want to consider it but it’s not a standalone fob. The chip is within the head of the key, so it’s one piece
Actually, in fact, it was still under Dodge ram for the 2500 and 3500 didn’t convert over until 2010 but the 1500 converted over to Ram in 2009

I have not tried, but I think the keys might have to be programmed to the vehicle.
The keys have to be programmed to your vehicle.
GMC is much much easier to program

I did change the cyclinder lock..
In that case, you will need the dealership to reprogram your vehicle ignition.
@@BadWrenchAuto there's no way to bypass it? 2005 ram 1500 lost the set of key.. dealership is charging me for $89 for the key reprogram..labor and materials
Roughly 300
They make tools tools to reprogram ignition systems but it's about $1300. I don't think a locksmith will be any cheaper. Once the security system is activated, it is not something you can not bypass because it locks the system down to prevent theft.
