    This day took longer than expected. We obviously managed to shorten it but here go:-
    First of, we diagnosed a Ford KA with Multiple Cylinder Misfire. Customer was complaining that he can only reach a maximum of 20mph on the motorway. NOT GOOD.
    Second job is a Subscriber's Ford Focus ST-3. We performed an interim service and rear brake discs and pads. He provided us with the parts required for the vehicle, and I can't lie to you, I was impressed with the parts that he bought!
    Finally, a Major Service on a 2016 1.4 Vauxhall Corsa. Replacing all the essentials parts and fluid required for a Major Service.

    Groves are for removing glazing from pads, not cooling. Rear brakes don't really need them, but I agree with the rotation, it should fling material out not inwards. Its useful on the track for front brakes, but does introduce a weakness. If you overheat them on the track they need to be replaced max 2 years.

    The insulation in the coil pack is designed to insulate up to a certain voltage the normal spark voltage is around 20,000 volts this is sufficient to jump a spark plug gap of around 1 mm. When your spark plug gap increases the coil pack spark voltage increases to jump the bigger gap, when the spark initiates it instantly dissipates the spark voltage. When this high voltage is initiated by the coil pack its desperately trying to escape to ground it does this by jumping the spark plug gap. If its not able to do this, because the spark plug gap has increased, the voltage will reach a maximum before the magnetic field reduces. It is possible to generate excessive high voltage that could arc over, break down the insulation, inside the ignition coil, which could destroy it. Coil pack should not be allowed to generate high voltage without a spark plug attached to dissipate the high voltage energy you might destroy a good coil pack. Cheap coil packs will be more susceptible because they are more likely to have inferior insulation material?

      Best to for two reasons, one is that they need tightening enough to crush the lock ring and make a seal, two so not to snap them in the head of a customers car, very big headache avoidance technique

    I’m with a few people on here that grooved discs are only for de glazing the pad so does it really matter that much which way they go and the fact he had road race pads (yellow stuff) the grooves will be gone in a couple of years
    Yes I’m speaking from experience on that one

    • @HalfdeadRider
      @HalfdeadRider Před 4 měsíci

      It probably does matter as it will likely wear the pads down quicker if not fitted correctly. Also I believe EBC did label them correctly, they didn't take into account the difference in leading and trailing calipers.

    Groves are to dissipate the gases

  • @cussco
    @cussco Před 4 měsíci

    Grooves direction is not that important, it the veins if vented that need to be oriented correctly. The grooves release gases produced under braking. Still it would still do my head in they were not symmetrical
