- Yes we are still mechanics despite being the Temu version of Matt Armstrong!
Anyway, today we have mixed jobs for you guys including diagnosing a Ford Focus ST3 for a Headlight Failure and a Peugeot 3008/Citroen c4 Picasso for Alternator Fault.
Unfortunately, with the Citroen C4 owner, he was charged over £1000 by the RAC despite wrongly diagnosing the alternator fault.
Anyway, we also replaced a Nissan Qashqai 1.6 Petrol Clutch as it wasn’t engaging anymore.
In this video, we found a lot of shenanigans and we hope that you guys enjoy it!

You Sir are a credit to your profession. If only Government and engineering unions together could encourage and incentivise young people into this (or other practical) profession instead of encouraging them to do useless degrees. Well done !
I’ve quit being an Aeronautical Engineer as I enjoy doing this more. Can’t sit in front of a desk all day designing things 😂
Where do you live? There are hundreds of local colleges up and down the country teaching practical courses like plumbing, electrics, IT etc.
tonnes of young people want to be mechanics. But they don't get paid enough. If I didn't have my software dev job, there was no way I could afford the cars I have now and being work from home, now I have the flexibility to teach myself how to work on my own cars.
@@MrLense with a job like a mechanic, you need years of experience until you start earning the big money. No employers will pay you full whack when you’re fresh off college.
dont forget mate they hate us owning our own cars ,they aint gonna encourage it
Stop/start - manufacturers dream!
Part's wear sooner, and need changing frequently.
Switch off stop/start!
I’d map it out 😂
Alternator/starter/battery is the least of your concerns... those are easy to replace. Ever replaced a turbo or even more scarily, an crankshaft?
@@khalidacosta7133it killed my reversible alternator and OUCH... Those things are expensive.
@@AndrewSowerby Ooof, reversible alternator... hope it wasn't water cooled. Legit the one part where replacing the crank is cheaper somehow 🤣🤣 I need a new starter motor for a normal car, I paid £20 on fleabay, genuine brand new too 🙄🙄
@@khalidacosta7133 hehe, no, not water cooled at least. But still stupidly expensive. Lucky you, with a proper, separate, starter motor - nice and simple, just how it should be.
Mine's a Euro 6 diesel with all those strict emissions targets that gave us stop/start, Adblue/SCR systems and ever more complicated DPFs. When we finally *have* to go electric, I imagine it'll be even worse somehow. A mate has a non-starting ID4... It's lovely when it's running but he hates it. It's been up on a flat bed twice this year and he wants the dealer to take it back.
I like my wife's old Fiesta. Simple 1.25l Duratec engine (rather than one of those ecobooms). Bulletproof. Idiot proof. 17 years old with no signs of dying off any time soon.
You are a brave man sticking your hand down past a running pulley!
My brother is, not me 😂
Always one with health and safety.
That alternator job was just mind-boggling. I can understand someone guessing it's an alternator and further checks needed, but you would need to be one special tool to not notice the tensioner, especially while changing the alternator and needing to move the tensioner slacken the belt off 😮
Basic thought goes “It turns, so it should be fine”- next thing you know, you’ve missed something very important
You explain basic stuff so clearly 👍🏾👍🏾
You are hard working folk and for that alone you deserve to be successful out in all weathers and never one word of complaint well almost none and if you earn 6 figures then good on you !!
😂😂😂I thought I just started watching and the next thing I hear is that is it for this video... All 17 minutes gone in no time 👍👍👍Keep the good stuff coming 😊😊😊
Thank you 🫡
As a heating engineer I find your fault finding and explanations very informative.
I've just found your channel and I've subscribed as your very entertaining bro.
Keep upthe good work
Thank you sir!
Ford Focus - " owner said he checked it. He didnt, he looked at it " sums me up 😂
Quashqai - how do you keep driving a car to that point ?
You don’t 😂😂😂
Top work mate! Clutches on the deck ain’t no joke. Hope you find a place with a ramp in the near future and can get out of the cold aswell. Subscribed 👍
That’s the plan mate!
Well appreciate it 💪🏽
Half of the comments don't get what RAC is actually for, no wonder they complain. Look up breakdown in the dictionary
Love how you are developing this channel- good job. I might be alone in this but I would love to see a beginners guide to using cheap oscilloscopes to diagnose sensors, etc. - seems to be the way forward for DIYers!
I am gunna be posting some tutorials soon. I just need to find the time
Nice one!
Love your vlogs telling it warts and all.
Enjoying the channel mate
Thank you bud 💪🏽
great vid guys pls do more fault finding videos like that very interesting !!!
Nice work and I admire you outing bad work and companies. Specially from people like the RAC. I have had to get help from them in the past. The guy couldn't be bothered which was very clear because he was being paid nothing by the RAC. So after that it comes to people that know what they are doing such as you.
Great work 👏
Excellent vlog as always, I tend to buy the brand blue print which I believe is very good 👍 what is your opinion on that brand ? kind regards to you and take care Mark from Billericay 😃👍
Hi Guys, really enjoyed watching your extremely competent work, subscribing now to watch more 👍
Thank you!
Another great video guys, looking forward to the next one. What model autel scanner are you using?
Thank you mate! Autel MS919 mate
How the hell are you young dudes so knowledgeable about cars? I was 37 before I knew the difference between PSi and Bar...and that was because my mum put me right
We’re Asians. We got put right by the moment we took our first breath 😂
Brilliant videos
You are fantastic at your job you and bro make a good team I'm hoping to see the BMW on the road soon.
We are currently working on the next video for the BMW 😏

7:57 good info brother.
another 10 outta 10 👍
Nice astra van towards the end. Good condition. Makes me want to wash my car now
It was very nice. Hardly any leaks tbf. My 1.7CDTI Combo had 280k miles without any leaks sadly had to sell it 🥲
You guys are bad asses!!! To bad you guys aren't here across the pond. We could use a few good decent honest mechanics.
On those citroens they come with 2 tensioners. I usually replace both together. Because if one is worn more than likely the other one is worn. ❤
This one’s only got one, fortunately. I know which one you’re talking about though
Man I am amazed of your diagnosis abilities. Where did you get so much experience from? Do you always study the car for some common problems or everything that you solve is thanks to your troubleshooting skills?
I wish you guys lived near me! You really know your stuff
where are you based
5:55 that's called getting the most bang for buck from your clutch!.
I got my clutch down when it was struggling uphill and the cruise control wouldn';t work because it couldn't maintain speed at the way it was pre-programmed. because clutch was slipping. So cruise control would get deactivated.
Im assuming he went to halfords for a service 😂 they probably junked it with crossland
For the astravan prob would have been worth advising customer to change the other caliper and come back to bleed them together. Also worth bleeding the fronts as you can access the nipples by turning the wheels
Yeah how dumb it will just need bleeding again.
looks like they just wanted the money lol no ethics. if opposite caliper was binding i would have told customer to call after that side is fixed, and just for ask some petrol money / little fee to cover the visit@@MasterBigNose
The Rac The Knights Of Their Roads Sir Jimmy Saville Obe Was That Sausage Fingers Favourate Knight
Hello there , question for you , if you were called to a vehicle with intermittent fault that only showed up like every three weeks, but reset when key was turned off then on, now car drives great, and code P0299 logged what would you do for this type of condition???
I didnt see you check the lower tensioner on this? What looks like an idler below the alternator is actually a tensioner on this registration number as the belt has top be 'tight' on both sides of the alternator pulley.
Bottom one is sound mate. You talking about 5280 aren’t you? That one is absolutely fine hence why the alternator is charging after replacing top tensioner
wouldnt let you work on my pushbike, absolute cowboy
Thank you 🫡
RAC are effectively towing company. The are no longer trained to diagnose faults.
Yes we are.
Mann filters all the way for me. German quality never let me down yet.
All the way mate!
❤❤
The modern ride height sensors are not potentiometers they use a floating ground and hall sensors ,
Rac guy probably sold the old alternator on e bay
👍
❤
What happened to the corsa you brought mate
👍🏻
Where you guys based ? I couldn't find it on your website sorry
If it turns into a starter then surely it is a DC generator, not an alternator? Some of the aircraft I flew had starter-generators. An alternator cannot turn into a DC motor without significant changeover in wiring. Technically possible I guess, but a bit of a faff when a DC starter will turn into a DC generator very easily.
They’re called iStARS by Valeo. Smart idea but bad technology in my opinion
The number of likes is hidden. I can still like the video
When you “diagnosed” the level sensor, why was there no ground? Two 12v feeds and 1.5v, was this a 3 wire sensor?
3 wire sensor yes!
Control Unit Grounded so you won’t find it on this.
12V wire is pre-level sensor
11V wire is post-level sensor
Voltage drop is measured on a resistor in-between the sensor producing (1.5V) (which is obviously incorrect here as its failed).
It’s then reported back to the control unit and posted to ground
Looking at Haynes diagram, from my understanding, that’s how it works BUT I could be wrong so please, if you think I’m wrong, please let me know. I’d love to learn something new so I can avoid doing wrong things again
Pretty sure you should see a 0v (ground) on one of the wires, most 3 wire sensors do. Did the level sensor fix this?
@@toastmanman3287 still in order mate.
If it was a potentiometer, yes, it would have a gnd but this one actually measures voltage difference between the resistor so I don’t see why it would need it.
It’s just like when a wire is corroded, there would be a voltage drop. No need to gnd it to measure the voltage across the wire
That’s what a potentiometer does, reads voltage over a resistor… also if a wire isn’t grounded, with resistance in a wire, there wouldn’t be any resistance as there would be no current flow. Basically you have made a video showing a wrong diagnosis of an alternator, when in the same video you are pretending to know what you are doing and measuring voltages you have no clue of what you should be expecting to see. Hopefully the sensor you have ordered fixes your own guess work.
Like what I’m saying, I’ll be happy to understand your own diagnosis to this.
I’m not perfect, I could possibly be wrong. I’m always happy to learn new things. Any other explanation as to why there is 3 wires with 3 positive values? Bear in mind that the ground IS DEFINITELY controlled by Control Unit
Which Autel unit is that?
AA couldn't tell the difference between water and oil under car when broke down just a speed sensor fault not gearbox failure numpties.
You're working John far too hard. Geezer has gone grey overnight
Hahaha! Tell me about it! Sometimes he also turns in to a Zebra/Leopard when worked too hard
Unless the RAC people destroyed the tensioner? Possibility
How would that be possible, is my question to that 🤔
I would NEVER EVER use RAC again. They diagnosed a faulty carburetor on my car and actually broke it trying to repair it. The fault proved to be a blocked breather hose.
You know anyone in Telford who's got vcds? RAC couldn't tell me what the problem is. They are a terrible company.
I honestly think they’re brilliant! Unfortunately in this Occassion, they failed to correctly diagnose it
I’m not entirely sure as don’t cover your area,‘I don’t have any connections there, sorry!
@@themarvelousvlog thanks for reply they charged me 40 quid for coming out tried to say it was battery, but battery and alternator were gud, any ideas? Running Lumpy like a slight miss, going to change the fuel filter, I have cleaned the throttle body, new egr valve fitted. Spark plugs have only done 3k miles checked for air leak. I'm a bit stumped really. No lights on dash?
Which autel are you using please?

How much do you charge for your services
I was a member of the R.A.C and i had my motorcycle on the policy and i needed some tyers for the M.O.T they wouldn't gave me any cause it wasn't M.O.T witch was coved on the policy but yet again they still took my money for the policy and they was going to charge me for taking my own bike to the M.O.T station. Same thing for my car i wanted a winter service witch was also covered on the policy and they wanted me to pay £250 for a flipping oil and filter coolent change so i canceled the contract and bought my own oil filter coolent for £100
Screw the RAC
How can i get in touch? Can you do bmw timing chain change? N47 engine
Engine out mate unfortunately- something that we can’t do on roadside with this engine. Sorry!
Hope the client claimed against the RAC for miss diagnosis.
New channel?
not englands cars are those uk british kings rac they are just like his knights
Years ago AA😢 A180ora200 Class Mercedes told my sister that the gearbox was gone it was the front left driveshaft it costs my sister three times more to fix it because mama mechanic would have done it for quarter of the price they are not mechanics the cowboys
What kind of mechanic replaces a gearbox based of the quick diagnostic of someone working on the roadside. The AA and RAC go out and have to make quick decisions on if a car can be fixed quickly at the roadside. No point blaming a breakdown firm if your mechanic is a moron😂😂😂
