What really boils my piss are dealerships on £180-£200 an hour and they are still not to be trusted😡
That’s why they’re known as ‘Stealers’. 🙈
Serviced an Audi once that performed a ‘Major Service’ no filters were replaced 🤮
@@themarvelousvlog
I smile at your antics and appreciate your work ethics. I hope your family is safe and thriving. 👍🏻🙏🦘
Worked for vauxhall once the manager got peed when I said the car needs coolant top up as you could only get the part directly from the parts manager 🧪 was told to put in water 😉 but they would make you check the tyres and if they are within the legal limit they would make us record a clip for the customer to make them aware it’s almost reached end of life 😑 part of inspection procedure lol dealers are a scam even the master technicians were average…
@@grahameroberts8109 That why when I buy any vehicle that says full service history its not worth the paper its written on Hence I do all the servicing myself and just fill in the book without a main dealer stamp. Sadly these days most fork just do not have a clue hence they get ripped off all the time !
We met at Coventry garage awards. I'm mark from nest autos Well done on winning the award. You guys are genuinely honest and deserve to go far in life.
Nice to e-see you here mate! Hopefully we see you guys again soon! Thank you!

honest lads doing a great job..for all of there customers..well done guys.
I used to live in the UK many years ago and I often found it very very difficult to find mechanics I could trust and so I often ended up doing the work myself, I brutally ripped off by a couple of garages also. In 2001 I moved to Thailand and I was extremely lucky to find two really excellent mechanics who I used for the next 15 years, these were both older men near retirement who had incredible skill. A few years ago I moved to Ireland and had to start again with finding trusted mechanics, I had to abandon my perception that the only good mechanics were the ones with 40 years experience.. simply because they are impossible to find in Ireland.. but I have learned that you don’t need decades of experience to do a good job, you just need the right approach and the ability to research what’s involved and use the correct tools. I love that you do stuff to spec and that you use the correct tools including a torque wrench. If I lived in the UK and within your catchment area I’d be a customer for sure.
Respect where due also to your right hand man John who like yourself is hard working and deserves to do well.
Working in the cold, the rain and laying on the floor may seem OK now, but for the benefit of your health and wellbeing it would be great to see you in a proper workshop someday… though in truth I expect you will end up doing something different, perhaps you are a little too good for the line of work you are currently in and I mean no disrespect to anyone when I say that.
Cancer Research for the £120 lads and thanks for another interesting vid you two crack me up 😅😅😅

2:16 Now I know the face John does when he's going inside 😂😂 My Aunt got scammed by a garage and was charged £380 to change a washer bottle on a Astra H!!! I checked to see if it had been changed and it was the same bottle O_O I went down there and got her money back, I wasn't having none of that BS.. Me and her had a falling out which is why I never did it in the first place. The hose had disconnected from the bottle that was all. He even kept the car for 2 days saying he had to order the "special part" from Germany ffs. Top video as always, Good stuff 👍👍
I quite agree with you, do the job correct & you get repeat business from word of mouth from a happy customer
Without integrity you have nothing. What people take without integrity, god will take twice with integrity.
Love your videos with the how to’s!! That’s what people watch for to learn how to fix there own cars if they come across the same problem… there’s other channels that don’t show the work involved and speed it up…..that’s not what people want to watch. So keep the how to videos and I’m sure your channel will do great!!!! And if you want to donate money to a charity then any cancer charity please mate 🙏🏻
Fair play to you for showing how easy it is to scam some body who don't know anything about cars there is alot of mechanics who would scam people thats why i will do it myself i just can't do the technical side of cars but i buy cheap older fords or vauxhalls easier to repair but got respect for your honesty that's how you get more customers word of mouth them swifts the gearboxs go to often common fault and some times its hard to get a recon gearbox for them mate
I had the same con too, they tried to charge extra for the clutch bearing even though if you checked the tinternet it was included. However they were charging a lot more. They tried to make it more convincing by claiming they had to order it in and I had to wait for it.
“£120?”- John 😂
@@themarvelousvlog It cost £180, I asked why, they replied because of demand and it was hydraulic. I told them to forget about it and ended up getting a new car at the end. Total job would have cost me £1200..
Imagine trying to pull that on an eldery person . Only takes afew to tarnish us mechanics. What vehicle was it . Sounds alot ?

Once I had a loud clunk from the rear, a mobile mechanic who has been a family friend for over 30 years told me it was a shock and he said if that doesn’t fix it then change the spring
I did as he said and told him to change the rear shock but the clunk was still there so I got a bit annoyed and took it to a garage where the mechanic told me that the spring was snapped, he told me that he should have spotted a cracked spring from a mile away, so he tried to get double labour out of me.
Nice to know an honest mechanic still exists
Keep it up mate great videos 👍
Hey guys love your videos!
At the start of the suzuki swift segment, i thought it would great if you mentioned how many miles these cars have covered, and what year the cars you work on are manufactured!
It might help people who coincidentally have the same vehicle check for some issues you find on the way. And show trends for when these components ware.
Great work, i get to learn a lot from your videos! Looking to do my VDA next month!
Fantastic idea, nice video, your channel will grow boys.
Hope so!🤞 😂
You lad's are in the elite level very high standard of work every time ,it won't be long before you get one million subscribers .your videos must be watched around the world.
Huge compliment! Thank you very much. We will keep on improving!
Brilliant work Guy's... I wonder about car owners not being able, (or willing), to do a quick check on the internet to price up the part they need.. It would give them 'some' idea of a repair cost if they also asked the mechanic what their hourly rate was and an estimate of time needed and possible extras that might required. The Suzuki looks like it might have had a previous owner that lived near the sea. The salty air might have caused the corrosion underneath the car.
Gbu idol your very honest guy you deserve to have 1 million subscribers
🤞 hopefully! Thank you
Setyres in Hastings tried scamming my mum once. Failed the MOT saying she needed new front discs and pads but I'd replaced them about 2 weeks before. I took it for the retest. I ssw them giving me funny looks so i just gave them daggers and sure enough it miraculously passed!
Yes , I did , some mechanics are not qualified and still running their garages … and is happening now 2024 … they messed up my Vauxhall Astra , change the pulley and tensioner , got charged like £550 with parts and labour that was 2020 , after that , I have driven my car for two weeks it felt like it something dropped on metal plate cover below and white smoke started to come out of the bonnet little bit , anytime , I start the car , they can really scam you and at the same time damage your car , that’s how bad it is out there in reality…
You don't even need to ask a customer for additional money if your going to scam them on a clutch. Charge them for a three piece kit but only fit a plate, thats what happened to my dad many years ago when he had a mk2 cavalier.I found that out when I had a go at replacing the clutch myself after it developed a noise.
That’s another way but you hardly see individual pieces being sold now tbf…
Excellent video highlighting just how easy it is for corrupt mechanics to scam unsuspecting customers as most people don't understand the mechanics of a car. Please donate the money to the British Heart Foundation as i lost my Mam to silent heart attacks.
God bless you. My next major fixing I'm going to reach out to you guys. Love from Surrey Quays!
Thank you! Looking forward to it
Thank you for telling me this tip with charging the customer extra with release bearing 😂😂 JOKING I believe in carma and keep up with the vids as a mechanic my self learning off you guys aswell with different faults from different vehicles knowing possible faults with them from seeing your vids
Kwik Fit Ilford, tried to charge my wife £170 for a new tyre, even though I had all new tyres all round 6 months previously on a MOT test. Place is closed now, but boy did I give them hell about it, there was no damage to the tyres at all, legal, just tried it on cos she was female. ~Trooper
You lads are awesome ✌️

Great example of how a customer can be very easily scammed by a dodgy mechanic. I have to admit i would have fallen for it too
If this geezer was in my manor I would use him every time - mechanics round here are always trying it on
You have gone well up in my estimation mate. Done your business absolutely no harm at all showing this.
I had my 71 BMW X1 in for an oil change only at the local dealer . Bill came to £200. Not shy.
I'm sure it's to pay for the coffee and biscuits.
good honest days work lads.
Thank you!
The amount of people that use copper slip on slide pins astounds me... I have changed so many breaks from mates who have had garages do this. Even happend to me on my first car.
That was awkward. Lol
I was scamed by Halfords, who on a service they said my pads and discs were worn out. I got them checked by an MOT tester who said they were fine. I'll never use them again.
They literally broke my car by pulling the rubber back on the drop links. Wanted £130 to replace the part they broke. Cost me £12 and an afternoon to put it right. I don't know if it was malicious or just down to a lack of competence, but either way I definitely don't trust them - or any garage
Honesty is key good work
Great job with those clutch jobs. Did you advise the Swift owner about the rust ?
Yes Ashley big up yourself. My guy you kno, went to school with him 😂
A well known Toyota Main dealer trys to charge £140 for an anti bacterial clean of your car when in for a service. I said no to that extra charge when they called to ask if i wanted it done.

For the charity donation, Ben, the automotive charity would be my choice.
You must have some decent customers. Been a mechanic for 35 odd years, more recently most want to supply their own parts and google the crap of everything before parting with their money.
They probably have been scammed before hence why they always google their stuff
Yes had a garage tell me it was new clutch time. After them doing it I found it was the clip connected to gear stick had come off, shame you guys arent a bit nearer the Berkshire/ Reading area Would use you all the time.
No, we cover your area 😇
Good on you guys,it so easy like you proved to con people,👍👍
I've just come across your channel and it's nice to see honest guys. I was told that you need to change the flywheel when you change the clutch. How true is this
Depends on the car and depends on the damage. If the car have got a solid flywheel, no need to replace UNLESS damaged by the clutch, warped or lipped.
If the car has got a dual-mass flywheel installed, yes- replace alongside the clutch kit
@@themarvelousvlog mine is a Vauxhall Astra J 2012 1.4sri
I think your one is solid… I’m quite sure it is
Glad your honest a lot would say flywheel needs replacing when it's a solid one and they say it's dual mass. Copped a mechanic out on that with daughters car a couple heavies soon got her money back
Dude I love your videos if I ever needed something major doing your othe only guy to call
Let us know mate!
I remember a mechanic charging me £60 to change a Corsa oil sensor. It's a £10 part and £5 minutes to change. It failed again and I did it myself in 5 minutes
Risky game doing that on them 😂 haha bless them
All rouge mechanics and garages need to be shamed by trading standards 😂😂
My experience is straight from Ctiroen dealer about a product recall on ancillary drive belt and asking me to pay 180 pounds to pay for the tensioner change! I complained and both were replaced - belt and tensioner whithout paying a cent.
Just doesnt make sense that you leave the tensioner when changing belt.
Hi mate what battery tester do you use I like the look of that
Naaa ... you're the man👊
ever thought of getting a mobile lift they are fantastic and would save you hours but I guess you would need a small trailer to transport ??

OEM parts all the way. They're as good as original
I live in the uk i have my city and guilds in mechanics and have always done my work myself except from 1 time where i broke my leg after getting hit by a car on my motorbike,,, and what`s crazy is i had to get a mobile mechanic out to do my clutch on my car and he tried this exact same thing with the thrust bearing saying i needed one and would cost a extra £100 even tho i know it comes with the kit after buying it and him picking it up i pulled him up about this and he denied it,, so i phoned euro car parts and put it on loud speaker and got them to confirm that the kit comes with 1 and he got it when he picked up the kit,,,, so i told him to pack up and jog on he was not getting a penny from me,, and i just waited a week for a m8 to come and help me do it instead..
Easy to see why Suzukis earn the "rust bucket" title
Is Vaseline good to use on the slide pins?
Just a bit of advice Don’t social experiment with an old aged pensioner as they might drop down dead on the doorstep 😮
👍👍👍 to u guys 💯
Brother should have told the customer about the rust
I did. When we see stuff like that. We always HAVE to make sure that they become aware of it
I guess that, even if you know nothing about cars, you could still check internet prices to verify rough costs and check what a "clutch kit" actually includes, (and verify other parts that supposedly need replacing)? Takes five minutes to avoid the scam.
I'm sure a reputable Motor Factor would be happy to help if necessary.
@12.00, Coastal car cause by sea air & salt
This is why I take pictures and always give back the used old parts so the customer and also the receipt for the new parts . You’ll be surprised how many times I’ve been told someone can do my clutch for 120-150 madness!
Yeah mate- all this £150 labour to change a clutch I just find very puzzling 🧐
@@themarvelousvlog tell me about it you must get it as well ! 150 they must be wiping the drain bolts with a cloth and leaving lol.
Am lucky as I repair my own car. But a few years ago , took my car into a fast fit company to get new tyres. Manager come over and says your car has leaking rear shock, I had only replaced them the day before. Company lost a customer that day. How do you get a gearbox to go back in so easy. I always struggle.
Name and shame 👀
I just make sure that the clutch plate is nice and centred really. Support the diff and try to line it up as straight as possible relative to the engine. Should plonk in place 😆
@@themarvelousvlog almost all of them will charge for work that your car doesn't need. Stealerships
giving crooks another idea if they haven't thought of it. but i get why you did it buddy x
I don't understand how people ride the clutch so much in normal driving, but have seen people holding a car on a hill for minutes on end waiting for traffic lights. 😮
I’ve seen people bounce up and down on an uphill traffic 😂
My daughter had a brand new i10 with a clutch problem. Hyundai dealer changed the clutch. I collected the car for her. Bill included master cylinder fluid etc. I spoke to the service manager and Hyundai covered the clutch but the master cylinder etc was customer. I asked to see the vehicle with him. Opened bonnet and showed him the clutch cable - not hydraulic. I said I was calling the police there and then and trading standards. He shat himself and we had 2 yrs free servicing. Also duped hyundai out clutch imo
My first thing I would ask tell me what I get for the 3 peice clutch kit then.
I consider myself a hack and I will bend over backwards to help and look after my customers, I hate that this stuff happens with techs still, I litterely only do what I do to help people (I did OK with properties I don't need to work) and the amount of times I hear stories like this or have customers worried because its what they expect (sometimes I'm a dream come true for them, they can't trust me because of this stuff) is really disheartening, its one of the reasons I like you guys, you clearly care, are sincere and do a good job!
I recommend quality, sometimes customers don't have the extra money ready (that's where my credit system gets used) but the thing to remember is lots of budget clutch kits don't actually come with new bearings, so don't immediately presume a new thrust bearing is a scam lol, we aint all scumbags or social experimenters 🤣
Where's that 235, or was it a 240, I can't remember it's been so long....😅
240 is coming along. We’re likely going to post an update on this on Tuesday 👀
@@themarvelousvlog nice, looking forward to it, enjoy the sun....👍👌👍

So do you guys cover Manchester?
A lot of times scam mechanics suggest changing flywheel as well even when it's not too bad. I always inspect flywheel myself before I can say yes or no. They then use scare tactics that if we did not change flywheel then this and that can happen.
If it is a dual-mass flywheel, it is always recommended to replace it at the same time.
With us, if the dual-mass flywheel is not replaced at the same time, we cannot warrant the job as we know from experience that the dual-mass flywheel will wear down shortly after replacing the clutch; worst part about it is that if the dual-mass flywheel fails, it will take the newly installed clutch with it.
Solid flywheel, no, they don’t have to be replaced unless cracked, badly lipped or warped
@@themarvelousvlog good info, thanks for sharing.
Young cancer trust for me as I lost my daughter some years ago
Is it normal for a garage to keep hold of my old injection pump they never said that in my £1200 quote for a replacememt only when i asked for it did they say they havnt got it i suspect they changed a part on it becouse i saw loads of pumps on a bench with parts missing , transit 350 mk6 by the way
They're called Stealerships for a reason
same thing when they charege you 1hr. to replace a radaitor when they're doing a timing belt job
Hmmm… sounds odd…
On what percentage of clutch jobs do you find leaky rear main seals?
Hardly any to be honest, though they are common on Swifts
i see you've still got the shcitroen ! what broke on it this week ?

so how much for the clutch replacement and labour here?
£🤏🏽
I see what you were trying do demonstrate but if I was the customer in this situation I woulda been a bit p*ssed off

Favourite charity is RSPCA
Oh no he has been riding the clutch so it's worn out on both sides so now they both need replacing 😅😅
That’s new hahahahaha!
#letsgettoit xD
Be careful as a lot of charities turn out to be scams as well.
I have an i10 just like this. Do you check/replace the dual mass flywheel as a precaution or is this not really an issue?
About the "Social Experiment", there is a risk people misunderstand you and that you spoil your good reputation. So I wouldn't do it, but it's okay to give the tip to your viewers in your video.
This is a petrol, not diesel so no dual-mass flywheel on this fortunately for the owner
agree about the social experiment, this could backfire badly as customers don't like having games played on them, even if it's with good intent.
