Hardest Onsight Climb of 2023 - El Gran Bellanco 8c+/ 9a | Adam Ondra

- The new video featuring the hardest onsight climb of 2023 is here! El Gran Bellanco 8c+/9a is located in Montanejos in Spain, a crag I had never been to before, but I had heard about it a lot. It used to be a very popular crag in the 80s and 90s, and it is cool to have some old-school classics and new-school classics next to each other in sectors like Pilas Alcalinas.
The day was electric and crazy. It started with rather long and tiring travel, arriving late at the crag feeling tired, but the contagious psyche of the local climbers made me climb very well and onsight this incredible route. It is all included in the footage, and I recommend to check it out ✌

Hey climbers and fans! How much did I warm up before this onsight try? I was climbing the 8a+ route called Manolete Pague Te Metes as a second warm-up route before the onsight of El Gran Bellanco 8c+/ 9a. And it was a pretty tricky route. Watch my commented climb in the new membership section for all CLIMBING LOVERS and FANATICS ⏩ czcams.com/video/S9kU6I6I_XY/video.html
Thanks, mate!
you're awesome Adam!
Omg easy climbing 9a for you 💪💪 happy new year and new projects!
El Gran Bellanco officially given an O-Grade of 0.
Lol hahaha, it’s catching on

It's unbelievable how good Adam is at onsighting. No hesitation at all. Having nearly all the moves dialed in from the start. Incredible to watch.
Yeah it's unreal how much experience on rock is required for something like this. Incredible to watch him move with such confidence on holds he has never touched.
I got to say, the power screams were amazing. What a beautiful rugged preformance
I love that the dog wanted to go for a hug too
Doggos are the best!
I make more mistakes on my long term projects than Adam on his onsights... impressive beyond words!
2:22 The belayer is hardly paying any attention at all!
7:20 Imagine being on your redpoint attempt of that 6a (clearly heavily sandbagged and must be harder than Silence) you've been projecting for 7 years and you hear Adam's power scream echo through the crag and your into soul to give you that last push get you to the top
For real?
Congratulations! 👍👏💪
PS. No one can compare with Adam in terms of onsight.
Humbling performance. One of a kind! 💪🏼🤘🏼🔥🙏🏼
I love that this onsight video drops the same day as the podcast interview re: Adam’s onsight of Just Do It on “Written in Stone”!
Adam, Magnus, and Alex have inspired me to start rock climbing 💖 hoping one day I can afford gear so I can get started on my quest💯
Rock on!
Wooohoooo Adam Ondra!!!!
Love how much power Adam put into pulling those guys into hugging him
Yeeees!
03:53 - please have a look at the belayer
Love this moment, when your finished, were celebrating with all crew, and then the dog just came like others, and started barking and "celebrating" :) 9:04
Absolutely.
Amazing climb! And what a wonderful video, so beatiful at the end to see everyone (and a cute dog) come into the frame to congratulate Adam.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Beautiful climb, the change of mentality for the hard section was incredible
insanely strong and inspirational as always thank you adam 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
Happy 2024! And very impressive as usual!
Great! Montanejos a really nice crag and those mad pumpers as well!
I was in a fightmode also the moment u were too,i was shouting in a home when i was watching it🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Veryy nice fight
Thanks for sharing this
Pedro Pons (the climber in the first clip) now runs a climbing hostel in Chulilla along with his wife Nuria (also a beastly climber). They are both lovely and it's an absolutely incredible spot! (Pedro actually wrote the guidebook for the area so the crag recommendations are second to none!)
Amazing performance like always. But what really gives me goosebumps is the belaying technique of the "Hippie" dude 😅
I'd take that. Can't wait for the next vid tbh.
So awesome! Well done Adam.
Awesome work Adam, can't wait to see what's next! :D
🔥🔥🔥SO AMAZING!!!!
Impressive as usual! Happy New Year Adam!
That was so fun to watch!!!
camera work was awesome! amazing to see someone so dialed in. cant wait to see the next in the series
Skvělé!
Motivácia 🔥, super vibe, brutálny výkon!❤️
That kneebar was a thing of beauty. Bravo Adam. ❤
Adam Ondra amazing human
Onsighting is the best!!!!!!!!!!! Great job Adam!!!!!!!!!
The passion 💟🌌☮️

Cuanto me alegro de que te haya gustado Castellón, un sueño que hayas visitado este sitio tan olvidado :)
just incredible . i cannot imagine my body being completely relaxed upside down from a knee bar !
insane good video production
Congrats🎉
Your a best bro
Enhorabuena Adam!!! Qué bonito encadene!!!
Amazing, such relatable content too, everyone hates that feeling of getting sandbagged on your 8a+ warm up... 😅
That is so sick that the hard section is right up to the chains, well done!
9:25 Impressive. I hope belayer was ok
Wait for it! AO Team
I bet the belayer moved faster than Adam on a route to dodge that one!
Just another O zero! 😅
Inspiring ... !
Adam climbs rock way better than plastic. ❤
so amazing, great job team and Adam
Thanks! AO Team
Solo hay que quitarse el sombrero 🎩
legend
So nice to see you redpoint!

Master at his craft.
Made it look easy.... Adam is the best climber I know.
Like all great athletes you make what you do look easy.
Super climb, interesting😗😗
incredible, thanks for sharing
Glad you enjoyed it! AO Team
good job Adam
So sick
I tried a 8 a in that zone a few years ago and it kicked my behind , ouch. That place can be humid for sure , great send adam !
Wow as always. Happy New Year!
Thanks! Happy new year! AO Team
If I could get like a fraction of the brain rewards Adam appears to receive upon succeeding, I could probably live out my days a happy man just riding the wave into the sunset … 😄👌
KING
5:02 I like how Hippie stays totally focussed even during the kneebar :-)
Love how the dog also congratulates him at the end
Setting the power scream as my ringtone now
I am very excited to see what Hugo can do if you can onsight 8C+/9a ! 💥
the voice over keeps getting better and better :D
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍Adam si supééééér👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Great video!! Thank you and happy new year. Whenever I have tried hanging upside down with a knee bar with my hands dangling towards the floor, I feel that blood flows down into my arms and makes me super pumped. Any thoughts??
Thanks again and happy new year!!
I bet there were some beers drank on that trip! good climbing, good times!
🙏
Hello Adam Ondra, my name is Pablo and I just wanted to tell you that I am your number one fan. I love watching your videos and you are my motivation for every day trying to be. I am impressed by how you can achieve such difficult routes. I would love to one day have the honor. to know you
Hey Pablo, keep crushing!
Onsight Goat
I hope everyone can see how impressive it is to be that much perfect during an onsight try, it’s juste crazy. It’s just look like he know the route since his birth
Adam is still going to be climbing 8C as an old man at this rate. He'll be destroying every problem climbing gyms have and wowing the youth of the time lol.
Great video, great effort, amazing production. Cheers!
✊💪💪
i want adam in my dream bong rotation
Damn
Adam, this is Beautiful!
To REALLY complete a difficult climb elegantly, cross-training choral music lessons could be useful . . .
I watch for the grunts!
Ondra+Andrada, good news!
I can't wait
Great Video, and well done Adam. Looks like some fairly sketchy belaying from his partner though?!
people were looking super friendly :)
You make it look so easy lol
imagine you're casually hiking in the area and you start hearing what sounds like an exorcism at the crux (@7:48), you'd swear to everyone that day that you heard bigfoot
😀
9:03 Hey, the dog was also there to congratulate. Why didn't you hug him? :)
erm I don't know whats more impressive, that knee bar or those pants haha
bueeenaa!!, a muertee!!!
That footslip at 3:30 was scary...!
😂adam is amazing i don't know why not drop this rope....this is the power 💪
That foot slip made Adam seem more human to me, I've definitely done that before
Hoping that congratulating spectators were not hurt by those powerful Ondra's handshakes.
And to think, I almost “onsighted” the V2 warmup boulder at my local spot. 😢
new Ondra screams just dropped
It'd be interesting to hear Adam's or some other pro climbers' thoughts on belaying. I keep seeing videos where pro climbers get belayed in a very unsafe manner by my standard. And I'm not a safety nerd by any means. To what extent should one trust an auto-blocking belay device really? I've been using one for years now, but would never let go of the brake hand even though I know the chances of the mechanism failing are pretty slim. I would imagine pro climbers would be even more concerned about safe belaying techniques given that climbing is basically their whole life. So yeah, I don't know, am I overdramatizing?
Bad technique is bad technique, doesn’t matter who is applying it.
Always follow the brand's advice. Petzl says never let go of the right hand. So never do it. Some friends of mine do it and I hate it. It is a semi automatic braking device like your cars belt. Very difficult almost impossible to open it when collapsed against the weight of the climber but if the brand says so there has to be a reason. So you are right, safety first. Actually most of pro climbers in Spain from the old school dont use the grigri correctly. Petzl said a long ago one should use the "gaswerk" technique meaning you block the device with the thumb but keep two fingers in the rope when giving slack. Feels ackward at first but it is perfect after a while.
i can't think of a single "good" belayer who doesn't always have their brake hand on at all times. but also there is something to be said about trusting your gear with your life. climbing is inherently not a safe sport compared to other options, and you always are assessing risk. also adam is probably the worst example for safe clipping practices, he has a very unsafe clipping technique occasionally and he also skips clips with massive amounts of slack, but the routes are usually very overhung and he has extreme skill and strength to not fall lol
