I commented on the first Les Stroud video about how he sent me a letter when I became an Eagle Scout. Just wanted to say that I recently became a park ranger, which was a life long dream of mine. The Survivor Man show inspired me immensely as a kid and really instilled a love of the outdoors in me. So thank you Les for having such a huge impact on my life!

I had a weird experience that made me think otherwise though.
I was competing with friends to stay the longest under water, soon enough my lungs started trying to gasp for air, but to no avail as I was still submerged.
After a while though, due to my stubbornness, it stopped and I got this feeling that I could almost breathe under water and that I could stay under forever.
Luckily it struck me that this was a bit freaky, so I resurfaced.

I went river rafting once in my life and nearly drowned. ( multiple times) Company I went through had a terrible instructor who was either high or new to his job. I got tossed out fairly early on. This scene is very real & hard to watch.
We got stuck 2 more times on that trip. One of those times, I had to be one of the ones to willingly jump out because we breached on a rock (to help free the raft).
The 3rd time we got stuck was in a very powerful cyclone, I still have nightmares about it.

Most of it was class 2 or 3 rapids, which can be tricky at times, but if you know what you're doing, they're mostly harmless. However in one section of the river there was a piece of rapids that was on the border of 4 and 5. This was my first time rafting, and in that heavy section my foot slipped and I fell out. Easily the most terrifying experience of my life. I LOVE his comment about the canoe or kyack approaching a rock. I witnessed a similar event years ago. Went on a rafting trip (by the way i didnt know how to swim) and witnessed a raft wrapping around a big rock. The occupants had previous experience. When raft was removed a kyack immediately wrapped around same rock. It broke in half. Intense "momments".

I can relate to what ales was saying about how terrifying it is when you’ve dunked and can’t get your footing. That happened to me when I was a teenager. I got trapped under a heavy inner tube with no hole for about 12 seconds. The water was so fast I couldn’t do anything until it calmed down. Was horrifying

I'm with him. Make the heroes fall and scream when disaster strikes. All kinds of things are done to the truth of how scary nature is but no mythology is deeper than the "Star character must not scream" rule. The best way to show danger is to show strong people being afraid.

16:35 "Predator" 1984 was filmed in real jungle and the remains of the blowned up helicopter are still there.
Filming location was in Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico, other movies filmed in that city as well, such as "Revenge" 1990, "Herbie goes bananas" 1980, "Limitless" 2011, "The night of the iguana" 1964, etcetera.

Les, you are very knowledgeable about many things. I appreciate your thorough and descriptive explanations of things that most people think are simpler than they really are.

18:05 Les, if you fall into the river and the speed is extremely fast, the force is so strong that you have NO control of your body.

Honestly I could listen to Les talk about Jungle for hours. Maybe he will do a breakdown commentary for the full movie at some point, I want to hear his thoughts on the scenes after the river.

I’m addicted to these! Thanks for sharing. I like that these people understand Hollywood’s need to entertain, vs accuracy. They’re fans of the movies and they give credit where it’s due
