But I wasn't either when I got married (or when I subsequently got divorced), but we had a receiving line at our wedding, too. I don't think that's particularly a Mormon thing. For those of you that have non member family or friends. A tip that I have is to give those family members the time of the event if they wish to wait for the entire ceremony outside. Or you can give them the option of arriving 30 mins before the ceremony ends that way they can still be there for pictures and for when you and your spouse are coming out. This is what my spouse and I are doing

    This is the one thing I don't understand. Why not a civil ceremony? In Europe in most countries civil ceremonies are mandatory, so there is no discussion. You have your legal wedding, your reception and typically the next day (or Monday, many weddings are on Saturday) you go to the Temple to get sealed; which for many is half a day away.

    Also goofy about the different sealing policy for three countries to wait a year after a public wedding service is many LDS who already are sealed to a spouse who died might remarry for time in the church chapel. So why can't a first time couple marry for time and then seal for eternity immediately?

    • @Thundersnowy
      @Thundersnowy Před 6 lety

      kris Sharp it's a fear tactic the Church uses to try to get people to marry in the temple, it's all about control over every aspect of your life. They punish them if they get a civil ceremony first in countries that's allowed. They'll scare you with stories of how a spouse died before the year waiting time is up, and they lost them forever and can't be together in Heaven. There's many partitions segregating people in Mormon heaven.

      Fabled Creature you have no knowledge of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.......why would anyone be scared of the gospel of Jesus Christ,,,,,you’re so ridiculous.....we love the Savior and his Church, if anyone tells you they are scared they do not know Jesus Christ our Savior! I have been a member for 54 years, never have I had fear of this church or the beliefs! I have found true peace through knowing the true and living God.....Jesus our Savior can give us all love and peace, no matter what problems you have! I’ve known many members that married civil first for their nonmember families and followed through with Temple Marriage.....they now can Marry civilly throughout the world and have a Temple marriage right after........no fear!

    I bought a dress from an LDS woman that made wedding dresses. My family is also non-members. We got a divorce. I found out I had a mental illness. My parents are divorced too. My mom paid for photography. My dad paid for the catering and DJ. Our wedding was crashed. People that weren't invited showed up for free food. I got married in the Columbus Ohio temple which was good, because my parents wouldn't have wanted to drive to DC for a wedding that they couldn't go to. The temple was built in 2000, we got married in March of 2000. My family got to tour the temple in the open house, which I was happy about. We did a ring ceremony for my family. We didn't know that you could have a procession (with my parents). The Bishop gave it, but I put the ring on the wrong finger and was so embarrassed. (We forgot to bless the food). The pictures took forever!! I was really mad because I wanted to enjoy the reception. We should have taken a picture at the temple, but we had a non-LDS photographer and didn't suggest it, and I didn't know. Yes, my family waited in the lobby, I didn't know they could do that, but the whoever said they could, I thought that was nice.

    I found this to be very informative. I’m the only Mormon in my family and none of them live in Arizona. I thought that for myself I would ask that in lieu of gifts my friends could bring a donation of food for the reception. It would be a way to cut costs and not have anything go to waste. Also I have a friend who does Temple photography so perhaps as his gift he could photograph and video the wedding.

      Are you in the US? I'm most countries you marry publicly for the state and then can be sealed immediately in the temple. If you have been a member long enough to get a recommend. If you are able to get a ecommend but marry first publicly so famliy can be there they make you wait a year to seal. Goofy rules. Way to allianate family to let his side in the room and hr parents behind the door unable to witness real vows.

    I don't understand. You can't wear the nude lining/pantyhose in the temple so did you wear a separate dress during the marriage? It looks good though. When I first saw the photo I thought, "Why is she standing in front of a temple and she didn't get married in the temple?"

    • @HaleighMarkar
      @HaleighMarkar  Před 7 lety +2

      +Dana Scully it's not that I couldn't wear the nude lining in the temple, it was that overall my dress wasn't temple appropriate. Temple dresses need to go to your wrists and not be distracting. My dress wasn't plain enough and the sleeves didn't go to my wrists. But yes you're not the only one who was confused! I did get married in the temple I just wore my normal temple dress during the ceremony :)

      They would have preferred to see you exchange real vows and then enter the temple without them immediately to be sealed. It would not have been an issue in England. Or most other countries. Why a different policy in America and two other countries for a global church? Like the priesthood and men of color ban before the 70's this weird sealing year long ban if a public service is done in only three countries will go by the wayside.

    • @enternounhere
      @enternounhere Před 6 lety +3

      She asked her parents if they wanted a ring ceremony, which they probably could have exchanged vows if they had wanted to but her parents said not to worry about it, it would have been a lot of extra work. Regardless of "when" they would have had a ceremony for her parents, her parents were the ones that said not to worry about it. Regardless of preferences spoken or unspoken, everyone sounds happy, I think Haleigh Everts would have brought that up if it had been a problem.

    • @kristinesharp6286

      The ring ceremony per the rules can not include a vow exchange. It is a jewelry exchange. Now say her hsuband passes and she reamarries for time wanting to stay sealed to her first husband that will be only for time, does not take place in the temple and they can be present for that wedding. Now if she passed her husband can remarry and seal to another woman all in the temple. If they lived in London they could have had a vow exchange with all nonmmber family present and then immediately walked across the street and been sealed for time and eternity in the temple. If she dared have a public vow exchange in the US she would have waited a year to be sealed in the temple. I am catholic, i do not believe in joseph smith having a vision nor they do they beleive our lady appeared to the children of fatima. I do not believe Christ appeared again to north anericans. Actual doctrine beliefs are different which is fine. But this weddng policy isn't doctrine. Or a church history event. It is goofy for a global church actively seeking converts from nonmembers. Hopefully soon it will change or members with nonmember immediate family will simply marry publicly with actual vow exchange and wait the year to seal after just like most grandparents did, without the year wait but it took some months to travel to a temple. Or the church will stop converting nonmembers and membrs will only members other lifers in the church where no parent grandparent or sibling expects to be there unless they are the right age and members in good standing with a recommend.

      Haleigh Everts I wouldn't want to be part of a reenactment. As a parent, I would want to be part of the real ceremony not an after the fact reenactment because some religious official decided I didn't qualify to be a part of my daughters actual wedding. It's just my opinion but I think it's really sad.

    • @kristinesharp6286

      Its not a public vow to be exclusive until death. Just elope. This would not be an issue in over 180 countries. Sad. God forbid you lose a spouse and marry again for time only, they can attend that wedding. Of course if you husband remarries if heaven forbid you pass, he can also seal in the temple since he can seal to more than one woman in eternity.

    • @Hamann9631
      @Hamann9631 Před 6 lety

      Crystal 72. Most of my wife's family weren't Mormons and in hindsight one that was shouldn't have been in the temple because she wasn't worthy. My father-in-law's initial reaction was to swear that he wouldn't come to any part of it. He had the biggest smile of anybody at out ring ceremony. Nobody among our family and friends complained. The ring ceremony isn't a reenactment. The temple ceremony involved some symbols that are too sacred to even talk about outside of the sacred temples. Haleigh should delete any comments following this that describe those sacred things.

    • @kristinesharp6286
      @kristinesharp6286 Před 6 lety +2

      If any of the nomember, never a member family, found out you can do a tradiational civil exchange of vows real wedding in front of them and do a sealing immediately after what they would have rather had happen. As you said the ring ceremony isn't a reenactment. No one should have had family there if they all could not go. All these it was fine coming from member about those who could not see the wedding. It is like asking a white person living in the south in the 40’s if the n word is hurtful. Even nomembers see the ring ceremony as a Nonwedding. It is something that converts and their nonmember families do not have to go through in all but three countries. Why can the church be global. They are knocking on doors for pity sakes, you think they would not cause arbitrary allienation of family.

      +Symantha Donaldson temples aren't normal churches. Anyone can come to our normal meeting house and come to church on Sunday. But temples are sacred and it's where special ordinances are performed. So you have to be prepared and worthy to enter to perform those ordinances.

    It's good to see that this young lady is happily married now, congratulations.
    This video is a classic example of how the LDS church controls it's members.
    The Church would not allow her parents, (who paid for the wedding) to attend, they were non Mormon and therefore 'unworthy' to enter it, but WERE deemed worthy to enter the lobby and wait till the ceremony was over.
    Her wedding and reception were all arranged around church requirements,i.e.
    She was not free to even choose her own wedding dress, it had to be 'Tempted appropriate' and 'Temple garment appropriate', and dear Haleigh was ok with all of that.
    I would assume that she believes that the Lord brought her and her husband together, it struck me that her 'Lord' wasn't mentioned once, it was all about the Temple and church requirements, how odd.
    What Haleigh didn't say was why she is getting married in the Temple anyway.
    Like all things in Mormonism, Joseph Smith said she must be Temple married,( so that after death she can become a Goddess, with her God husband, ruling over their own planet, producing millions/ billions of spirit children), all this is possible if she tithes 10% to the LDS church and follows a multitude of rules, for the rest of her life.
    This is the fundamental reason she was Temple married, Joseph Smith and his church say that she must be.
    Jesus testimony was that in the resurrection people neither marry or are given in marriage, Luke 20:35.
    Like all devout Mormons Hayleigh has 100% faith in the writings and teachings of Joseph Smith and the ongoing revelations of the church leadership, like all LDS people she 'knows' that the Bible is unreliable, because Joseph Smith said so, (Mormonism's 8th Article of faith).
    Read the Holy Bible and trust it, trust also the Jesus Christ of the Bible as your savior and Lord.
    Kind regards to all, especially dear Hayleigh.

    Jesus Divides Families
    Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth.divide families I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to turn ‘a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law - a man’s enemies will be the members of his own household.’ (Mat 10:34-36)
    The God of truth (Isa. 65:16) is the God of the Bible. Since truth divides, then Jesus would naturally divide his followers away from those who reject and hate God’s truth, even one’s natural family members. Remember, Jesus divides families:
    Do you think I came to bring peace on earth? No, I tell you, but division. From now on there will be five in one family divided against each other, three against two and two against three. They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law.” (Luke 12:51-53)
    Jesus Came To Divide - NOT Bring Peace On Earth
    To be worthy of Jesus and eternal life, one must side with God’s truth even though it divides his own family.
