    B&M StarShifter for 3-Speed Automatic Transmissions - Part 80675: www.holley.com...
    B&M 80675 - Fits GM #TH400, 350, 250 and 200 automatic transmissions. Also fits Ford Lincoln and Mercury #C4automatic and #C6automatic transmissions. Also fits 1966 and later Chrysler #TorquefliteA727 and A904 transmissions. Does not fit TH700R4, TH2004R or AOD automatic transmissions. Cannot be used with reverse pattern manual valve body.
    Features:
    The StarShifter is the perfect blend of form and function at a reasonable price while still giving you the option for the same ratchet-action and meets NHRA/IHRA reverse lockout requirements. In normal shift mode, the StarShifter operates as a straight-line detent shifter. But drop the shifter into low gear, lift the trigger up and pull the stick back to convert to ratchet action. Now you can bang the stick forward through the gears without missing a gear.
    -One-hand/one-step reverse lockout operation that meets NHRA/IHRA requirements
    -Includes backup light switch, neutral safety switch, mechanical gear indicator, polished T-handle, a 5' shift cable and all necessary brackets and levers to fit listed transmission applications.
    -Fits certain 3-speed transmissions only (cannot be used on 4-speed, TH700R4, TH200-4R, AOD, AODE, or reverse pattern manual valve bodied transmissions).

    I'm curious to find out for the Star Shifter, and the Pro Stick, why is it required to pull the lock handle to go from 2nd to D (3-speed application)? Is it possible to change this operation? I understand why you wouldn't want to accidentally shift into N or R, but why prevent from shifting from 2nd to D?

    • @timfort8733
      @timfort8733 Před 3 lety +2

      It shifts 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and then you pull the latch up to go to drive, and then you can just push it forward and it stops in neutral, and you have to lift the lever for reverse. The Mega Shifter is what I think you are looking for. I had a Star Shifter before and meant to get another one and got a Mega Shifter by mistake because they look very similar. What you are asking about is the main difference. The Mega just continues to slap forward each gear until you are ready for reverse, but it pulls back down to drive and then lift for reverse and then slap for Park. Hope this helps ...

    • @danjanes8689
      @danjanes8689 Před 2 lety

      It looks like there are no positive stops for 2nd or 3rd in the first mode. In ratchet mode, there's a positive stop at 2nd, but he says there's a "lockout feature" from 2nd to 3rd and you have to unlock it. That's not cool, and it looks like, at least in his demonstration, that there's no positive stop when you slap it to 3rd. You can possibly accidentally go to neutral.

    • @scottborkowski2411
      @scottborkowski2411 Před 5 lety +4

      Unless they have made a huge change since I bought mine you definitely can bang into drive. where he is getting a bit lost is with this one you cant bang into neutral. As well you cant pull down in ratchet mode you have to pull the trigger up push forward this puts you into drive on the standard side from her using the trigger you can access 2 then 1 and if you pull the trigger and pull back from 1st you reset the ratchet. In ratchet mode you can only shift 1 to 2 and 2 to 3 then have to go back to standard for down shift. For anyone who wants to argue the point I will say only this I have made about 200 passes down I-57 drag strip in Illinois with this shifter in my f150 from 2001 to 2003. The inability to mis shift and hit neutral in ratchet is what I love about this shifter. As a side note if you cant remember if you shifted into drive while running the ratchet hit it again all it does is flop if you are already in drive.

    • @Yellowghost73
      @Yellowghost73 Před 5 lety +6

      This confuses me too. You can slap in into second but need to unlock it to change to drive, which would be third? It's meant to be a racing shifter and adding another movement to change to the final gear defeats the purpose no?

    • @scottborkowski2411
      @scottborkowski2411 Před 5 lety +5

      @@Yellowghost73 I ran one in my f 150 pickup bracket racing at I-57 raceway in IL. That said after a couple hundred passes and a number of street races with it I can tell you beyond any shadow of a doubt you can slap shift into Drive/ Third gear. You cant bang and hit neutral like with all the other bang shifters I wont allow it. you cannot slap shift down. You have to lift the trigger and pull back to 2nd then lift again and pull back to first .It only allows 2 forward hits 1-2 and 2-3. It worked excellent on the bracket track with my truck since my truck could actually complete the 1/8th mile in 2nd but did better if I shifted to 3rd and kept in the range. So If I thought I missed the shift I just hit it again if I was in 3rd already it just flopped no gear change gotta love that.

      I had a B&M Starshifter in a 1971 Dodge Challenger for 12 years. The shifter was bought new in 1985. And YES, the ratchet mode allows you to bang the shifter forward for BOTH the 1-2 shift and the 2-3 shift. After banging your way to D (3rd), you then pull up on the trigger to move it forward to neutral, reverse & park. I can't image why they would change this, unless they want people to stop buying them..

      Nearly all of our B&M Shifters will work on the Ford AOD and AODE transmissions. I personally like to recommend the B&MQuicksilver shifter, part #80683. The Quicksilver is a "ratchet-style" shifter, however, you may prefer a gated style shifter. You can find all of the Ford AOD shifter options on our website www.bmracing.com. Don't forget that regardless of which B&M shifter you purchase you'll also need to add the B&M Bracket and Lever Kit for Ford AOD Transmissions, part #40496. I have added a link below to the B&M QuickSilver Shifter. If you have any additional questions please call us at 707-544-4761 and don't forget to use coupon code BMYT15 at checkout to get 15% off of your entire order.

    I installed it years ago andseemed OK for years but the shifter was always tight and troublesome. I couldn't ever get a smooth transition from each the gears.
    I then noticed the selector lever on the shaft was bent inward toward the pan and perhaps that's the issue? Do you have a better selector shaft lever for the gen 1 th700r4 so the keeper won't run in to the pan? Any upgrades to the selector shaft lever available?

    Can you just leave it in D. Or do you have to shift every time?

  • @guidosarducci3047
    @guidosarducci3047 Před rokem

    He didn't explain that very clearly - In this video, it looks like it ratchets down no matter what mode you're going to use - That's not true. It won't rachet down in either mode - it can only ratchet up. Also, you don't have to release the "T" lever after you take it out of park in order to go into neutral or drive. You can just hold the "T" lever up and go straight from park - to reverse, neutral, drive, 2nd, and 1st and keep going into ratchet mode if u want. (all in one motion) It won't just ratchet from 2nd to 3rd, you can only go into ratchet mode if you go all the way to first gear. However, if you are in ratchet mode and shift from first to second and then wish to go back down to first again - you must pull the lever up again to shift back down to first. And you do not have to necessarily ratchet through all of the gears if you don't want to. You can ratchet from first to second - and then while still in second - you can pull the lever up, move the handle forward and click the shifter into standard drive mode while still remaining in second gear. (l like this feature) At that point you can just pull the handle down into first or push it forward to 3rd or neutral without having to pull the lever again. So there is no neutral lock out in standard mode - only in ratchet mode will it lock out neutral. Reverse is always locked out in either mode.

      Because D is your 3th gear in this case, downshifting with a engine like mine, makes perfect sense. It will turn into a monster on wheels trust me. It all depends on where (type of transmission/engine) you use a shifter like this to make it worth your while, I rarely use rachet mode, that is cool to out pull the mustangs in the first couple of gears and guys that actually believe they can win from my 1992 blazer at the traffic light. Heck i do not even have to get out of drive to out pull most so called faster cars.
