- Killing Rykard without using the intended weapon, Serpent-hunter. Sword of night and flame +9 was used for damage because of range, allowing me to stay outside Rykard's lava. Rot breath was used for secondary damage.
Before you complain about sword of night and flame, remember this challenge is not easy it is not as simple as using a bow (which does 300 damage tops) why should I not chose the best damage options when I’m already making the fight hard enough. To note aswell my sword of night and flame isn’t even max level, due to the fact I don’t like the weapon. Idk how anyone could say using sword of night and flame was as easy as using serpent hunter when 12 serpent hunter skill attacks kill the boss.
Because you're showing off a way to beat this boss by using a weapon that essentially replicates exactly what the serpent hunter does, only with a different color.
It's just the same thing made slightly more challenging. Certainly not as easy as the Serpent, but it's just more of the same lol.
@@redneckrambo9626 you do it then, go on I encourage you. No fight with serpent hunter would ever take this long I’m doing a soul level 1 playthrough right now and I beat Rykard in 6 tries with a serpent hunter +3. So please if it’s just as easy you do it

I think they gate people from trying melee with that flame aura
One thing I find interesting about main bosses is that they talk about coming back when they die.
I had a bug where the victory message wasn't displaying, so i thought you really had to fight them again like a megaman
It's because the rune of death is missing, inside Maliketh. They're aware of that and so assume they will resurrect because they probably would.

I wish I knew how to perfectly time those rolls. Very nice performance btw. I was curious if anyone could actually do it without the serpent blade.
On my first playthrough of this game b4 I knew about the serpent hunter blade, i came pretty close to killing him with rotten breath, incantations, and melee weapons. I was always able to get his second form to half health b4 I died. I surmised he was meant to be very challenging like Malenia. I face palmed so hard when I found out about the blade lol. 🤣
I tried to do him without serpent hunter but after dozens of attempts the closest i got was his 2nd fase about 1/4 health using bloodhound claw. I gave up and was like fuck it and chose the easy way out. Respect to you and i fully understand using the swoord of night and flame lmao.
Update: I did it! Did a new save with a cringy dex build but whatever lol. Bleed is too OP in this game.
People don’t understand how long I spent trying other stuff of course I’m choosing what works the best
@@judethompson2071 i know this was a while ago but i did it with a 125lvl strength build, no spear went straight for melee attacks but i did use a spirit (lithuel 10+) it did take me like 10tries because if you dont figure out when to move away from his attacks you die pretty quickly
Flame drake talisman +1, healing charm, healing flask, two daggers with blood slash, and a whole lot of gusto right up next to him and you cna burn him down pretty quick in melee while taking virtually no damage from the flames.
More props to you than the stun lock ranged cheese. I’ve got him to half health w katana only. But those skulls get me every time.
I had no idea they gave you a weapon so i beat him with a nagakiba

Nice job! I just did this with a +10 Frozen Needle in my right hand and a +24 Antspur Rapier in my left hand, wearing the blessed dew talisman. Didn't do the best damage but it wasn't hard really. I'll probably end up posting it on my channel within the next few days bc I'm pretty proud of it.

@@swagwolfgang now while that Is true you actually have a chance of losing this way because it takes so long to kill him in phase 2 as opposed to using the servant hunter which will probably kill him before he uses his skull rain

@@swagwolfgang if you account for human error a fight that lasts 2 minutes (with serpent hunter) you are way less likely to die than a fight that last 8 minutes, on top of this if you spam weapon art with serpent hunter providing you have enough fp you can stun lock the boss, I dealt with the skulls 4 times in phase 2 most people will kill him so fast they either get one or none
@@swagwolfgang this is nothing like using the serpent hunter. serpent hunter stuns rykard all the time. this sword doesnt do that + serpent hunter does more damaga
I was bummed out when I beat this boss first try. I was hoping that because he had a great rune it would be difficult, I wish that they hadn't given us the weapon at the start. (Maybe lock the spear behind the manor questline)
This is much more like what the fight should be like.
I purposely made the challenge way harder than it should be, just to see that without help from the serpent hunter how hard would he really be, turns out pretty difficult. I spent hours coming up with strategies you can kill him by sticking to his body and using scarlet rot and bleed daggers but that’s boring, moonveil is solid. The first phase is entirely possible without using sword of night and flame but without making the fight boring I had to use night and flame second phase due to lack of attack opportunities, unless you cheese by sticking to the body.
Its like the giant lord of cinder from ds3 the same type of gimmick

Gonna be that guy and point out that Yhorm’s fight is a big old reference to Demon’s Souls’ Stormking fight. You even reuse the Stormruler, though it has no charge time in Demon’s Souls and instead uses up all your stamina.

I usually just take out the serpent phase with the spear but I like fighting Rykards phase 1v1 without the sphere & no summons! Makes the fight much better!
I used a pretty weird build for this, but it worked. I had a cold uchigatana and as habiIity I was using the howarfrost stomp. Pretty much relied in freezing the boss, but in order to survive stepping in fire all the time I used talismans and encantations that increased my fire resistance. Works pretty well in the first phase, but it has its flaws in the second thanks to Rykard having some weird hitboxes

I did it the other day without magic, swordspear or summons. Just had to take damage phase 2 and it sucked. Took me about an hour. The scarlet rot was smart

Fair point but a boss of this magnitude with size and just how he looks couldn’t be fully appreciated or experienced if it weren’t for a weapon with range
@@judethompson2071 damage and constant stun is way to big, this kind of weapon is not bad idea just like you've said, but it requires 0 skill and because of that REKTing his snake ass is piece of cake
