Morgott is actually the last bastion protecting the Erdtree while the other demi-gods just care for their own "foolish ambitions" thus making this mess a LOT messier. If Malenia hadn't fought Radahn, Caelid would not be the hellhole it is right now. If it wasn't for Rykard wanting everyone to be in the Serpent Famalee, he wouldn't have so much bloodshed that would lead his own people against him. If it wasn't for Godrick sewing limbs to himself, Limgrave wouldn't be called by its namesake, "grave for limbs". If Ranni left alone the Rune of Death, then maybe Godwyn who was loved by many would have kept the peace. The only demi-god he didn't mention was his twin Mogh but it isn't his brother's duty to protect the Erdtree; he doesn't have a throne and neither thus Morgott. But he took the task no one would own, to take a throne that would not let him in. His own ambition is to protect what he believes to be the sole sanity in this world has left - even if it meant killing you countless times in the process.

Think about it, Margit is a fake version of morgott ok, we agree on this. BUT, it's a clone probably summoned by morgott himself so, if morgott is dead, there is no one to summon it.
On the other hand, fake margit at leyndell outskirts its a bit different. While it speaks and fights just like stormveil margit, it's summoning is a bit different. Leyndell margit gets summoned from the body of a basic enemy, not from thin air (like stormveil margit) so, what i believe, is that leyndell margit has no need for morgott to be alive as its akin to a pre-installed trap.
