    By the way, did anyone notice that Morgott never appears in person when he shows up as Margit? Every time you fight him, he's surrounded by a golden glow before the fight starts and there's a reason for that; he's actually projecting himself through the commoners who are Loyal to the Capital Crown.
    The second time you fight Margit, if you're fast enough, you can see that he actually takes over the body of a nearby commoner in the outer wall area.

      Yea it's a bit werid since it seems mechanically identical to the mimic enemies that pop out of smaller enemies and give a larval tear when killed, but presumably Morgott has no connection whatsoever to the Eternal City and all their mimic tear/larval tear stuff. I don't recall any other enemies doing a similar thing. Seems unique to Morgott and the mimic enemies.

It was by no means a paradise, but it was better than living their entire lives alone and afraid of being hunted down and slain. If he gave them a place aboveground, Omen hunters might have come and slain them, or ordinary people, fearing them, might have burned it to the ground. The Veiled Monarch indeed, willing to spurn any glory for the sake of keeping the Erdtree protected at all costs. Genichiro was groomed to leadership and warriorhood by Isshin and Tomoe, and so he calls the shots in Ashina. He made the call to utilize the rejuvenating waters. D and his twin sharing one soul between two bodies is also strange, as well as Godwyn seemingly slowly "reproducing" through the spread of deathroot.
      It seems like not just characters having alternate identities, but also there being sort of echoes/reflections/variations of characters is a very prevalent theme. I find Mohg and Morgott both beautifully tragic characters. Both seek to find connection, by different means yet ironically are similar to each other at the end of the day. Mohg sought to begin a new dynasty, were all would share the same blood from the same mother, were there would no longer be prejudice from some being born of different races or of signs of omenhood. Instead all would share his and the formless mother's. Becoming a father of a new dynasty, where all would be omen and share the same cursed blood. Yet he was neglected by the only one, who would allow him to do so, despite all his gestures of kindness towards him and in his final moments reflects upon the idea of his dynasty, Mohgwyn were all would be friends of Mohg(Wyn means friends)
    Morgott is the exact opposite of Mohg, where he believes that the only way to be loved, is not through kinship or through equality but through worth. Morgott believes love is earned through the worth you show someone and not by simply showing affection to someone, After all its the easiest rationalization as to why he's unloved by Marika. In his fight he states that thrones are stained by his curse, that the golden Lineage, one that was meant to be the greatest lineage of the lands between are stained by his CURSE but not by him. He believes that if he were to rid himself of it, he would be loved, that if he could rid himself of his stain he could stand together with his family and finally be loved. So he puts his cursed blood in his sword and desperately defends Erdtree in the belief that he would be rewarded for his struggles, he would get an audience with Marika and allowed to join his family. Yet sadly, its not that he fails like his brother but he simply is unloved. It doesn't matter if he defends Leyndell, even if he has the most major rune, even he seals his omen blood. The Greater will simply dismisses him because it doesn't approve of what he is. And so he lays defeated knowing no matter what he does he'll never be loved by the Greater will and by extension Marika, no matter what he does. And yet, at the end of his road. His father simply tells him "its been a long while, Morgott". To someone who was unloved and never shown any type of affection from anyone, no matter how much time he would spend trying to prove his worth, to show that he deserves love, that he has earned it and should be rewarded. yet was always shown that, its not that it wasn't enough, it just didn't matter. He's given it, he didn't have to join a war, hold some item of major importance or even seal off a part of himself for him. He was just given it. At the end of his life, perhaps Morgott realized that love cannot be earned, it can only be given through empathy, kindness and respect
    P.S. you can read a God damn hour Russian literature, you will never convince me Godfrey, isn't the best character in the character in the game.

Accept the biggest difference would be that miquella and Melania still got love I imagine, even if it was only from a brother sister bond, while Morgott and Mogh were tossed away underground. If I had to venture a guess, one of the reasons the dialogue was cut entirely may be because it isn't adequately morally ambiguous. It gives the Erdtree and the people of Leyndell the appearance of being monsters with no counter example of decency. Not really Miyazaki's storytelling style, and that the Omens are hated was already conveyed in the item descriptions. So as soon as some speedbump in design happens about the character and quest not working out, it doesn't withstand the scrutiny of "Do we really want this in the game?"

    Morgott is easily my favorite character in this game. Dude is completely unloved, locked away, brutalized. But yet still loves. His sense of duty, in spite of what was done to him, marks him as one of the rare, true heroes in the Lands Between. His faith, even when he was spurned by what he believes in, while tragic, marks him as true. Even his self-loathing, his view that he tarnishes the very throne he sits on just be existing, is relatable and heart-string pulling. He SHOULD have been Lord, accepted by all and ruling over a refreshed Golden Age. But prejudice and blind adherence to dogma keep a good and noble ruler in the shadows, ever hidden.
    Killing him is physically painful to me. He deserves so much better. But die he must, that we might bring down the age that cursed him. Tragedy, though beautiful.

    Great video, the cut content sheds some light on morgott's peculiar status as king of leyndell.
    I have just one observation I'd like to put out. I don't think it's radahn that morgott defeats as Margit in the intro. If it is radahn, it'd make him the only demigod to be featured in the intro twice. It would also open a whole can of worms, the mightiest demigod being defeated by an omen would be a scandal, even more so when you take into account that Margit is morgott holding back, and Malenia the prodigy of combat being forced to unleash the scarlet rot to be tied with radahn's power would make little sense if morgott could beat him casually. It's also worth pointing out that the size doesn't seem to match and that the tusks seem to be missing from the helmet.
    Imo, it makes much more sense that the image depicts Margit killing one of rykard's champions, we know that rykard's knights also wore red manes and that morgott's and rykard's armies fought the most horrendous battle of the shattering against one another.

    • @fellasleepinpowerarmoragain
      @fellasleepinpowerarmoragain Před 2 lety

    • @kalzero3319
      @kalzero3319 Před 2 lety

      I'd just like to add that you saying Morgott was holding back as Margit is pure headcannon. Margit is just a fake identity. Him fighting as Margit doesnt mean he isnt capable of dishing out just as much pain as when we fight him calling himself Morgott. There could be a possible strength discrepancy if hes projecting himself through some kind of magic as we see in game but theres no evidence to support he fought Rahdan as a Grace projection. The omen are extremely powerful in their own right and he is so much more than just some run of mill omen. Hes a demi-god, the direct descendant of Godfrey the first human Elden Lord, and a shardbearer to boot. We also know that Rahdan was not always the man-mountain we fight him as by the fact that his throne in Leyndell is comparably human sized. It was likely his great rune that caused the transformation. So I don't see why Morgott going toe to toe with Rahdan as we see in that image is problematic at all. In fact there is a reason why Morgott Last of all kings is ruling over the graveyard of a world his family created and that is because he is on par with the strongest beings we see in game.

    • @playmsbk
      @playmsbk Před 2 lety

      @@kalzero3319 you're correct, the way I worded it was misleading. I support that Margit is morgott holding back not because of unsubstantiated assumptions on the nature of Margit, but because his cursed sword is sealed within his walking cane. An argument could be made for Margit using less complex techniques, but that could be blamed on gameplay balancing. His cursed sword is an explicit lore-accurate power boost though, and he isn't using it in the image. It's also worth pointing out that Margit/morgott uses none of his omen abilities, until he's forced to do so.
      The problem is that despite their power, omen are reviled and no one could have known that Margit was a demigod. So a demigod, let alone the heralded mightiest demigod, being defeated by what people perceived as a lowborn omen would had been a huge scandal, and there's no way nothing of the sort is mentioned anywhere in game if that had happened.
      As for radahn's size, both the trailer and intro depict him as a mountain in the battle of aeonia which took place during the shattering. The timeline is vague though, and it could be possible that radahn grew rapidly in size during the shattering, though personally I think that's a stretch.
      I'm unfamiliar with the theory that great runes alter the characteristics of their bearers, but from what I've seen it's pretty much the opposite. Both mohg's and malenia's great runes are visibly altered by blood and rot respectively, and even godrick's rune appears more golden than the rest. But I could be wrong, if you have more information on this I'd like to hear it.

    • @kalzero3319
      @kalzero3319 Před 2 lety

      @@playmsbk I didn't take the sword into consideration but I agree that would a factor as far as battle strength goes. I'm not married to the idea that Radahn grew because of the great rune I just don't see a whole lot of explanation on why he was the size he was in his battle with Malenia and his boss fight and not in the image of him fighting Morgott. The throne is what really bothers me. It was made for a big guy sure but not the monster we see in-game. Radagon was his father and the only reason he could have had giant DNA in the first place(red hair) and he didn't randomly transform into a giant. The only factor I can see is the acquisition of the great rune and it does line up somewhat in the timeline. We know that he was regular sized when he attacked Leyndell and super sized when he fought Malenia. If you can think of any other reason he transformed other than the great rune which boosts FP, HP, and stamina I'd be interested in hearing it. As for the we didn't hear about the scandal of Radahn getting beat by Margit the fell Omen I'd argue that there's a million blanks left to fill in lore-wise that are way more important and with this we at least get a specific image that depicts this event. All things considered I'd say this was Fromsofts way of telling us that happened.

    • @playmsbk
      @playmsbk Před 2 lety +1

      @@kalzero3319 I have no alternative cause to why radahn became huge, I only have indications against it being the great rune. Radahn learned gravity magic in order to be able to ride his old horse as he was getting bigger, and then he used said gravity magic to conquer the stars, but that was before the shattering, which means that radahn was getting bigger before he received the great rune. Though I have no concrete answers, the thrones appear to be made of golden light and could be representations of the demigods' position and not functional thrones.
      My point is that radahn is a big deal and is lauded by everyone, even people who were not affiliated with him, as the mightiest demigod. His reputation would be ruined if he was beaten by an unknown omen, and wouldn't carry over to our age as it does. Of course I recognize this is probably the weakest of my points.

He loved not in return, for he was never loved, but nevertheless, love it he did." I still have to find out why the omens are born cursed and what exactly that curse means or does, but what a cruel life they have to live for something they have no control over :(

    • @Xeronoia
      @Xeronoia Před 2 lety +1

      The Omen are forsaken by the erdtree, so they can't return to it when they die. The omen curse also seems to render someone soft-immortal (can be killed, but wont die otherwise) and all their descendants/possible next lives are also omen.
      Thematic but not confirmed, is three other things: the omen are connected to the crucible (horns are a common theme in crucible lore), the ancestral worship stuff (mentions budding horns and a general worship of horns) and Dung Eater's seedbed curse (the item itself is covered in horns, and his armor is made in the likeness of the omen. He is also described as having the soul of an omen but not the body). If the latter connection means the seedbed curse is the omen curse, then Dung Eater's ending is ultimately just to turn everyone into an omen - if everyone is cursed, nobody is, and nobody would be shunned and reviled. Which makes his ending not as awful as it sounds at first.

      @@jerrywheyland7324 Pretty much every game has "cut content". In fact it's an essential part of an extremely popular and effective design methodology called iterative design. The short explanation is that rather than designing the entire game before ever touching a game engine, the developer designs the game as they build it, occassionally stopping to assess what works and what doesn't, and cutting the fat along the way.
      A developer who insists on pursuing every idea and including every scrap of content just to justify the time spent making it would inevitably produce a bloated game where no one part of the design has room to shine (less is more and all that). Much like reducing the word count of an essay before submitting it is an essential part of academic writing, cutting content from a game is an essential part of game development.
      So yeah I doubt Fromsoft cut content from the game to "save time" it's far more likely that it was a deliberate design decision on their part, like cutting Vicount Shanehaight from Leyndell in order to better fit the delapidated vibe of the capital.

    in general we just know demigods in general did the shattering war to attempt to claim the right of succession but that's not it here

What is it about the Tarnished we meet that can help narrow down what the criteria are for being chosen? What makes them prime targets for grafting materials? And perhaps one of the most relevant questions here: how can characters easily glance at us and know we're Tarnished?

    • @notsans9995

      It does seem random. Like black guard bogart was a thug who had no interest in anything but self preseveration, and hes not even that strong as a warrior, the description on his helm even implies he prefers intimidation over straight up fighting. As for how they can tell, i think its implied that non tarnished have some kind of golden aura about them that they can see, where as the tarnished are graceless.

    • @Ketsuekisan
      @Ketsuekisan Před 2 lety +1

      The Tarnished are people/their descendants from The Lands Between who lost the Grace of Gold or had it taken from them, and were banished from The Lands Between. The Greater Will has grown desperate for the Elden Ring to be mended so that it can continue its hold over The Lands Between and returned the Grace of Gold to a random selection of Tarnished that MIGHT have the potential to fix the Elden Ring.
      Godrick is probably grafting Tarnished to make that potential, their strength, and their Grace his own. He's always been the weakest of the demigods and is doing everything he can to make himself stronger and "return together to our home, bathed in rays of gold." I suspect he's talking about returning to Leyndell.
      People with the Grace of Gold have a golden glow in their eyes, based on how much Grace they have. Look at the icons for the higher ranks of consumable runes: they start looking more and more like an eye.

      @prawn1717 Před 2 lety +2

      It’s more than likely just a gameplay oversight, but it could be explained through lore too I think. It seems that Omens have ways to project themselves through others somehow, which makes sense given the name. Maybe Mohg’s is a copy of himself meant to facilitate his escape to Siofra, possibly through the deeproot depths? Rather than a projection he maintains, this could be a lesser clone of himself meant to act as a decoy, whereas Margit is a manifestation controlled directly by Morgott, hence why when he dies it dissipates. Remember that Mohg the Omen is already in the arena when we enter, but both Margit fights begin with him entering battle with us.
