I love to run because it’s a sport that doesn’t discriminate against body composition. Growing up it was tough playing sports where you weren’t 6’0+ and weighed 200+lbs. With running I interact with so many different people across the height and weight spectrum that it fosters a better sense of community. Love this game and will keep it going until I can’t. Thanks for this video man 💪🏾

I just came home from track practice, feeling hopeless and disenchanted. I’ve been struggling on and off with shin splints for three years, and right now they are back again. It was my last day of practice and tomorrow’s my last meet. My shins were throbbing in pain and I could barely run a mile. I’ve never told anyone, but I’ve always dreamed of making it to the Olympics. With my shin splints and other personal struggles, lately I feel like my dream is unachievable for me. Today I felt this way, until I just checked CZcams and saw this video. I’m taking this as a sign to not give up and that I can still reach my goals. Thank you, Adam, seriously. Thank you.

I'm a Senior in high school, and I run everyday. I don't run track or cross country, so I run by myself. I enjoy it a lot because I can see myself constantly improving, which motivates me more than beating other people. I'm not very fast, but I still enjoy being able to work hard at something almost every day.

I love running because I love being outside. Running keeps me close to the ground. It allows me to experience the smells, enjoy the views, catch up with friends, and feel the energy that my body produces. Running is a gift that I am grateful for. I honestly wish I would’ve started sooner.

I don’t know how old you are currently, but I’m 36 & when I say people who you use to run with slowly drop off you start to become an inspiration to them and more. I started back up not to long ago and should have never stopped. Older runners who inspire me say just stay with it and you won’t have any regrets. Keep it up don’t stop.

I’ve dropped from running 2:08 in the 800 last year to 2:30, so it can be very demotivating as a runner, but I’m gonna do my best to keep going. Ur lifestyle and hard work is everything I could ask for, keep it up man

  • @sahacking
    @sahacking Před 28 dny +1

Nice video, Adam. Much of what you said brought back my feelings about running at your age. I'm 62 now, and still a runner. I started running in Utah as a sophomore at Box Elder High School in Brigham City. I placed 7th in the mile that year (didn't run cross country as a sophomore), and was 3rd at the State Championship my junior year, and 3rd in the 1600 at State after beating those guys a couple weeks earlier at a big invitational before being injured. I was injured again and didn't get to run the State meet as a Senior. I finished 3rd in the State in the 1600 and 3200 as a senior, again shortly after yet another injury. I got an Athletic scholarship at the University of Utah, and finished number one on my team as a freshman, beating the guy who had beaten me at State just a few months earlier. Another injury followed shortly thereafter, and another season ruined.
After that cross country season, I gave up my scholarship and served an LDS Church mission.
To make this long story shorter, I never joined a college team again. I met my wife, and 15 months later our first child arrived. I worked in factories and retail until I was 28, when I went back to college still as a freshman. Bachelor and masters took 5 years, with a year off to earn more money. I later got a career as a DEA agent, so even if I wanted to focus on developing my running talent it would have been futile.
Still, after all these years, I love running in my retirement here in Thailand. I do have some regrets about not seeing just how good I could have been, but I harbor none of those youthful illusions that I could have won an Olympic medal.
I wrote my own book on my love for running. It's titled Running: A Long Distance Love Affair. You can find it on Amazon if you're interested. I'm not hawking the book, but it does have so much in it that all runners can relate to.
I will hawk another book because it's the best running book I've ever read. Tim Tayes wrote Wannabe Distance God: The Thirst, Angst and Passion of Running in the Chase Pack. It has forwards by Billy Mills, Bill Rodgers, and other running greats. You will love it, guaranteed. Here's the link:

I love running because it provides structure, activity, peace, joy, and purpose in my life. I was mediocre at every sport I tried in middle school and early high school, and didn’t truly love any of them. then this past year I discovered a burning passion for running because of all the reasons listed above, as well as because of how tangible improvement is. I set massive goals for myself this past year and fell short. But the best part is that my failures don’t define me, giving my best does and I did that. And I’m so excited to set new goals as I move on from high school competition and become a hobby jogger 😊

Its a fascinating subject. The American college athlete system puts a huge focus on performance and winning. You always have an important goal to meet such as getting a scholarship, winning a certain meet, etc. So when college is over, if you don't have OQT to chase, what do you do?
Its awesome that you were able to learn these lessons so young. I didn't really embody this mindset until my early 30's.

WHY i ALSO LOVE TO RUN...It is best to make it clear from the start...I am not an athlete. Even in high school and college I was one of the last to be chosen when group teams were selected for after school and weekend games. But, that really never bothered me. I realized that the only sport that I seemed to be able to do...sort of well...was non competitive running. Simply, it was a challene that excited me. Either really early in the morning or late at night (even with my boss at lunch while working at Wang Computers), I felt that I was competing but not against others but against myself. Could I get my running shoes on and get out either on a track at school or around the dam near my home. Realistic goals that made me proud to accomplish. No medals, no crouds of supporters at the start, middle, and end of my run. It has always been me hearing the supportive messages that I told myself. " Good run Mel. Drink some water and rest a bit." I never run twice a day or ten miles a day but I do run my way and that makes me feel great.

Finding the love in running is something you have to find yourself, no one can do it for you.
Love is the very heart of the sport, and that sport is a commitment.
Running always gave me a sense of purpose and direction. I “quit” running for nearly 10 years until I hit my quarter life crises and was asked to help coach at a local high school. Now, thanks to a group of kids that helped me find that love for the sport once again, what was supposed to be a temporary helping hand has turned back into the fiery passion I once knew as a teenager.

This one really hit home… This is WHY I ALSO LOVE TO RUN: I started running in 2020 as an escape from an eating disorder, caused by losing a close family member. Running helped so much, as it provided me an escape from everything happening in my life at the time.
Running reminds me to show up strong, and to fuel myself properly, so that I can experience the joy that running provides me.
As I continue to battle old habits from that eating disorder, running continues to be a catalyst in breaking these habits, as I learn to fuel for performance and see myself improve in a sport that I've grown to love so much, in just a couple of years. Running also provided me with such a great online community, and led to me finding awesome influencers like you Adam, that continue to inspire me to keep pushing in all aspects of my life. I never had many friends, as I grew up the fat kid hating sports, so now being part of the online running community, has truly changed my life, and my whole mindset towards the ups and downs of life. Thank you! 😊🙏

Adam, like you said, it’s not the end that hooks you into this sport…. It’s the process of doing. I’m close to 70 and have been running off and on since high school XC. I never was a star or even close to a star…. Not even close to being a good back of the packer… although I remember when we tried to get someone to drive us to Boston for the marathon. :-) Little did we know that the marathon and Boston would be big!
Lately, the running is what keeps me focused on what is important. It’s love of the road… of feeling the road under your feet… of being in nature.

Very few people really put as much into their sport as you have. You're inspiring. And although you may be disappointed with your times right now, the rest of us are super impressed. For me, I actually dropped out of my polytechnic (was at an all time low hooked onto games and unfit, bad grades etc etc). I had to serve my National Service so I started running. Watching the show run with the wind made me fall in love with it. Have been running for over 2 years on and off but taking it serious this year in school on a track team. Also my wish one day is to represent my country in any event but even if that doesn't happen I just want to keep improving and attain a effortless looking running form :D

It's only this year I finally hit the goals I set 14.8 years ago...when I was 14. The constant disappointment and devastation, year after year, injury after injury is defining and refining. Some people have asked why I still run, even though (let's be real) I'm pretty blandly mediocre. Especially without collegiate support. But I love it. I almost quit every year for the last three years. But I stuck with it, and having finally reached my goals, I'll never regret the years I've put into this and the people I've met along the way.

Love the video bro! Just curious, since Coach Eyestone is training Conner and Clayton, can you ask Eyestone to help train you for the Olympic Trials?

I def had a quarter life crisis.
It’s common for achievers and driven people I think.

People often think runners are crazy because running sucks. To me, that’s the beauty of it. If I can go out and just live in that discomfort for an extended period of time every day, that just brings a great sense fulfillment and confidence to take on anything else in life.
