  • We are all made for every moment we encounter. Whether the moment makes us or we make the moment. Whether we are helpless in it or on top of it, we are made for that moment.
    It truly is end of an era :,) (at least until the next olympic trials come rolling around). Instead of the main feeling being disapointment it is gratitude. You don't always get what you want but that doesn't mean you stop trying. As I said in the video it truly has been a crazy ride. More videos to come, more races to race and more importantly more goals to set. It has been so fun. Thanks for watching, thanks for subscribing, and above all thanks for cheering me on.

    It sounds like this time you genuinely pushed your body to it's limit. That's awesome. While it's unfortunate that you didn't hit the time you were after, you still left yourself with no "what ifs." You gave it your best shot; pushed your body to it's limit and that's really all we can ever ask of ourselves.

    Here is my 2 cents and take it from a 50 year old who has run about 10 of my last marathons with negative splits: you are running your first half about 4-5 secs faster per mile than u should. You, like every other young runner, think that putting 30 secs to a min in the bank on first half is way to go. It isn’t. It’s the other around. You slow yourself down about 30 to 45 secs for first 1/2-thats 3-4 secs per mile slower than average pace. Several things happen: you psychologically ease into race making it feel super easy and setting yourself up to attack second half; you can more easily focus on your nutrition needs and don’t burn through as much fuel; you keep your core temp down which is huge; you minimize the muscle damage taking place, etc… once you get to the half, you can focus on steadily sticking to overall average pace or maybe a couple secs faster and when you get to 10K to go, no holds bar, but depending on where you are in terms of time, you can even hold it steady to mile 22 and then really attack. I’ve negative split by about 45 secs to a min a a half at almost all my last 10 marathons. And most of my negative split has come down to the last 10K. And I’ve run CIM about 4 times so I know the course. Not this year, I ran valencia the same day. Negative split by 1:06.

    • @AdamWoodRuns
      @AdamWoodRuns  Před 6 měsíci +1

      I agree with this take. I think it takes a lot of maturity to race like that, which is something I definitely struggle with. Especially in the earlier miles of the marathon where you feel pretty good regardless of pace.

    Sorry man, but I think you should put down a longer training period before trying again. 4 marathons in a year is way too much. The best athletes in the world does maximum 2, and that’s for a reason. If you want to be an elite athlete, you need to act like one. From October to April is purely about putting in the work, and then find a race, and put everything you have built up in that one.
