    Seth, what will you adjust? It seems there have been multiple, or every road marathon attempt over the last few years where you’ve “fallen short” - ambition greater than ability… Do you temper expectations and accept 2:18 is out of reach, or change training approaches. You do big volume so the wheels shouldn’t fall off so there has to be something missing in the equation. Keen to know your thoughts…. Stay humble, be hungry!

    Quite amusing that even though your legs are so beat up, you still managed to set up the camera, film shuffling down the stairs with the suitcase, and then went back up to get the camera and then walk down again...just for the 'tube. That's dedication 👍

    Hey Seth, another awesome job at CIM! I hope the next training bloc goes well and cannot wait to be apart of that journey as you prepare for Chicago. I have ran it before as my second ever marathon and had a massive PR (went from 3:40 to 3:05). If I could offer my two cents on Chicago is that the weather can sometimes be unpredictable but usually on the colder side with the time of year and being by the lake. Lastly, on mile 25, depending on where the wind blows it can feel like your running in a unfavorable wind tunnel.
    Again, can't wait for this next training bloc and onward and upward! And keep buttering that bread!

    This is exactly why you need to get over to Europe - I ran Valencia on Sunday, so flat my watch recorded 68 metres of elevation gain (220 feet)! I didn't feel a single hill which is the first time I've ever experienced it!

    My first CIM too, and it was super tough. My worst miles were 23-24 - I think that bridge took it out of me for a bit until I retained my bearings at the end. All a learning experience. Onward and upwards to all of us!

  • @angeloskadis9968
    @angeloskadis9968 Před 6 měsíci +6

    What I realize after studying (too late 😜) the elevation profile of CIM is that this is Not a race where someone should target even pacing. The first 5 miles are a steep downhill (-150 feet) then you have 10 miles of rollers with elevation gain of 600 feet. And last you have 10 miles of a much more gradual down hill (50 feet)
    If you don’t slow down miles 5-15 , you’ll PAY

    My legs are a lot more sore this year chasing 3 (went low 3:05) than last year when I had a larger predicted finish range and started easy, finished fast. Trying to push it in the first half really takes a toll on the quads, both up AND down.

You also a great family man as well man, may GOD continue to work and bless you and your families lives. I wanted to ask would you recommend CIM or Houston to run a PR? I agree I have been studying the course since I been thinking about running this course and I’m like do I want to keep running down and possible up hills to try and PR. So thank you if you can answer this or anyone that is an experience runner who has run these courses. I’m new to the game 1 year in so thank you. (Side note little man definitely gave you the “bro where you been face?” Loll)

    In Denver area, Coal Creek, (Louisville)and Big Dry creek (westminster)have some small rollers(coalcreek has a solid hill), and if you go out and back for 14-18 mile workouts, you get about 4-600t gain or so. But the best is the gradual descent and uninterrupted path mile after mile

  • @merlabel1253
    @merlabel1253 Před 6 měsíci +11

    Nice to see the real struggle it is to continue to PR. Not every race gets the results we want, especially when the margin for error is so close.

  • @Matterzzz
    @Matterzzz Před 6 měsíci

    I’m in the same boat, I have never been that sore after a race before CIM. As soon as I crossed the finish line the pain was on. I had to walk about 2 miles to hotel because of road closures. I agree with the course profile to, seemed fast only because everyone was pushing to go fast, really pulls the best out of you. Those hills were relentless though. Definitely a course you have to earn to get a good performance!

  • @wk633
    @wk633 Před 6 měsíci +1

    The late start was because they had a shortage of busses. Some of the sources didn't provide as many busses as planned so they had to do more trips from some locations. Which makes it pretty amazing they got the show going only 10 min late.
    The bigger issue is going to be the medal controversy. Or controversies. One is that people finishing in over the 6hr cutoff aren't guaranteed medals, but also some people who did finish under 6 were told they had to take either a backpack or a medal, but not both. I was initially told that. Seems like some volunteer coordination miscommunication.

    It is not a downhill course. It is a rolling hill course, which was tough. Yes, there is a slight net downhill, but that 650 ft of elevation gain is no joke. Plus it was humid in the morning and got warmer than it usually does. Good job on your big effort.

    I did CIM 2022. I do not think the CIM downhills are what cooks your legs; it's the rolling hills of the first 1/2 of the race. I had done two previous downhill marathons (Utah Valley Marathon & St George Marathon), and they really went great (with no downhill training, I live in Dallas). Certainly, the quads were a bit sore towards the end, but still, I felt great. CIM was a killer for me. The rolling hills killed my hamstrings and glutes, and after that, I couldn't recover. I may have gone a bit faster than I should, but still.
