I received my uncle's which was my grandfather's morris minor convertible 1962 same as yours I have clap hand wipers but no glove box lids ? Family bought Goldie in 1966 just took out for first drive I could not stop laughing what a great car.cruised at 55 mph people flashed and waved thought car had some think wrong but no someone followed me for a chat.!! Will need to take out when not in a rush!! Enjoy your moggie loving it

I've driven my 1958 Morris Minor for the last six years. Will never sell it. I am always surprised at the affection almost everyone (even little children) have for these cars. There really is just something about them...
My mum and dad had one in blue for years until they sold it in the late 90’s. I remember as a small kid the door flying open around a bend and my brother nearly falling out. I can still remember the smell of the interior and that rasp from the exhaust on the gearchanges 😃

Great video. I had 2 Morris minors, a Series 1 with split screen and the second one like Colins was a grey 2 door.
Much more fun to drive than any other car in the 1960s
My mum's first car was a gun-metal grey 2-door Morris Minor UBL 242 (nicknamed "Ubble" because of its registration number). It was a 1960 model with trafficators rather than indicators, though Dad had flashing indicators fitted when she got the car after passing her test in 1967 just after my sister was born. I remember its idiosyncracies: the classic burble from the engine if you came off the power goign down hill, the front seats which weren't locked to the floor and would rock forwards under heavy braking, especially if propelled by my little sister in the back hitting the seat that I was sitting in when mum once had to do an emergency stop. The separate ignition switch and pull-switch for the starter motor was novel, as was the indicator stalk which had a green end which flashed, rather than a green light on the dashboard.
It was the very first car I ever drove. I was about 10 and we took it to a disused airfield and I was able to try driving it - and learned how *easy* it is to stall a car: when you are a child you tend to think of engines as being really powerful so it comes as a shock to learn about stalling ;-)
The car suffered badly from rust later in life, and in the mid 70s I helped dad cut out all the rusty sections from the front and back wheel arches and fill them with wire mesh and Plastic Padding filler which we then sanded smooth. Dad then painted it a rather lurid bright blue, using gloss paint that you'd use for painting the window-frames of your house, and he used a paint brush. For ever after, you could see the very prominent brush marks :-( The car ended its days owned by the daughter of dad's secretary.
Unlike Delilah, Mum's car had "bubble" indicator lights above the brake lights and next to the side lights.

I posted somewhere that in the fifties and sixties, as a teen-ager in southern Illinois, US, I wished for a Moris Minor. A local Pontiac (I believe) dealer was selling them, but my part-time wages couldn't manage one. I'm sure there are still some around, but I haven't seen one in many years. FWIW, to US eyes back then, they looked like a forties Chevrolet in about half scale. Not at all a bad look.
Another brilliant video Steph. I had a 1954 Morris Minor as my first car when I started driving. when I bought it, (for the princely sum of 125$ back in 1979) it was in fairly good original condition body wise as rust isnt as big an issue here Australia as it is for you in the UK. the brakes were completely shot though and needed a full rebuild from the master cylinder all the way through the entire system. once I had that done, it was a fantastic little car, super reliable, ran on the smell of an oily rag and never let me down. I'd have another if I could afford to buy one and had the room to store it as well, but not sure if that will ever happen. gorgeous little cars.

Hahahahaha I love my plastic rain hoods. You don’t need an umbrella and they can be stuffed in your pocket. What’s not to love.
Nice work..! My first car in 60's was a similar model. A '59. Dad bought it for Mom and myself. Had the ragtop replaced, late sixties. Owned a number of Minor's. A couple of friends had them too. We claimed to be members of the "grotty Morris club".? Hehe The nickel in engine block helped the earlier motors, be maintenance free. Later ones had a cylinder liners.. As a machinist, then. I would use my surface grinder to plane down surface of the "head". Even .005 would boost the output, without straining the rest of design. Cheers.
Great video Steph of an iconic car. Refreshing to see a young lady with such a interest in cars. My dads first car was a early 50,s split screen, remember it well. I llearned to drive in the RAF at St Athan in a green traveler in 74. They had a fleet of them for learners, so that tells you something about them. Unfortunately never owned one.

I had the good fortune to own 2 convertibles at the same time. One was a project, the other was a really nice ‘58 in OE white and the guy who restored it wired the semaphores so that they popped up and flashed he made a really nice job of it and i still regret selling it to make room for the project. The reg was unusual, IOW apparently 2531 CD that has to be worth a few bob on its own. Happy days. I still have the project and it looks ok but i still miss CD 😢
Colin and his dad did a great job priceless memories for him and the amount he drives it fair play, I had a friend who dad had a pale blue he put MG metro seats and engine and electronics even his lad made a wooden dash for it, it made me smile esp after seeing

The bakery I worked at when I left school in 76 had a Minor van for deliveries,it was fitted with wide wheels and felt really fast back then I spent many happy hours in it...it was changed for a Marina van and that was rubbish by comparison we ended up putting a new engine in that lol.
Awww I love a Marina!!!! I would love to drive a marina daily but they are so expensive now.

I was reminded recently about the faces on a family when I took a 26 inch adult mountain bike out of the boot of a '68 floor door. These are awesome little cars, virtually impossible to drive without a smile!

Love the Minor. We had a red. 4dr. With a white top for a time in the early 70’s , in the USA! as our family car. It was slightly more practical than our other car, a 71’Corvette with side pipes. No wood paneled station wagons in our driveway!

Im off in my morrithou convertible with minors-on-tour shortly. If we break down there will be 100 experts on site immediately, so that makes it less of a worry.
My first car was a Moggie 1000 then i had two more after. I used to drive regularly between UK and Switzerland though in a slightly more modern (for the time) car....an MG 1300, so as with the Moggie, a 4 speed box which was damn tiring! Having since done long drives in Europe i couldn't cope without a 5 or 6 speed box now!
What a great car, I would so love to see it towing a little caravan. Back in the 70s a company made a tiny caravan designed to be towed by a mini, off topic but maybe it’s the same caravan.

These were very popular in India. Imported at first, later made under collaboration by Hindustan Motors. They were called Baby Hindustan and had 1000 cc engines. They were used as daily drivers till about 30 years ago. Almost every doctor had one. Would love to own one today.

The MM 1000 is a great collector's car as many parts are still available and there are many MM clubs worldwide.
I preferred the earlier Moggy . It had more charm though I agree heater was dire !!!!
Thanks Steph. We had a 1960 white Convertible as our wedding car in 2002. The owner drove 60 miles from Eastbourne to be with us. I believe the car is still going strong, but I’ve lost contact with the owner.

Used to own a 1961 genuine factory built Convertible . It's now owned by a wall paper company for marketing/promotion. I now have a 2CV and a 1932 Two-Seater Morris Minor.

I’d love a Moggy , just worried about all the maintainance - I have no tools whatsoever and I know they need regular greasing and oiling and you have to jack them up and take wheels off to do it - seems a faff

These cars remind me of the Land Rover scene , Land Rover boast there's still I think 70% of there cars still on the road, it's only because of enthusiasts like us that that's the case, they have a cult following
