It's funny isn't it how we all say "what a great car to have at 17!" Yet our parents would turn their noses up at us because they wouldn't be seen dead in one! Great video Steph.
Love you're vids on British cars.owned an 82 metro.74 mini and an mgf.You are such a natural at presenting and reporting on these vehicles.
Looks like a great day. Looking forward to shows again. I run an old landrover defender & love it as much as you love Jill😊
Another absolutely fantastic video! What a wonderful show. Thanks ever so much indeed.
I love your channel Steph. You bring a different angle to the classic car world. Pete 🇬🇧
Thanks Steph, another great video and an amazing nostalgic trip down memory lane..
Thanks for the lovely feedback 🥰🥰🥰
Hubnut hinted me to Steph. What a wonderfull presentation of various classic cars 😊👌
Rita, Sue and Bob Too 😂 "fancy a jump?" 😂. That SD1 sounded great. Keep up the great videos
This is fantastic your voice is fantastic and nice to listen to your videos are absolutely fun to watch. Good information about cars and trips 😉 Greetings from Norway 🇳🇴
Another great video, Steph. Worked on, driven and MOTd just about all of those cars and some that weren't even on show. Exception is the Czech car. Never even seen or heard of them.
Excellent Steph, thank you. What a show! Your taste in classic cars is top notch and I fully agree, Sir Alec was a genius. Thanks again.
Thanks so much Mike I do try 🥰🥰🥰
Well done Steph, I really enjoyed this, so many wonderful cars, and your commentary was great.
Thanks so much Steve. These take ages to make so I appreciate the kind words
What a brilliant video, I have just discovered your channel and am really enjoying watching. Your knowledge and enthusiasm is amazing. I am 50 and loved all those BL 1970's cars. My Dad had a B reg Morris Traveler and then a N reg 1975 Wolseley six and for me it is still the coolest car I have ever been in. How I would love to own one now. Whenever I see a 1970's or 1980's car on the road it always makes me smile.
Aww thanks so much James - I do try! Xx
Loved the wee metros...passed my test in a wee blue one ❤️😊👍
I love that! These cars really are awesome
Same here bought for £300 sold as seen lol 😂
I'm so glad you spent some time on Allegros. I'm really smitten. Over here, in the US, I've never even seen one. I would love to have one. I think that car is fab.
I love those British Leyland cars the allegro even though my late mum had one it's not my favourite but the Rover SD1 , Ford Granada's , Corona especially the 1600E , the Sierra , Marina and Triumph Dolomite I love .
Love you videos keep them coming 😊
Great review, very entertaining and informative to watch, well done!!
Great videos Steph, fab to take so many drives back to my childhood ! And good to see Ed in there as I enjoy his channel as much as yours (came to both via Hub Nut) ... Keep up the good work :)
Wow looked like a great day loved the early mk2 mg metro turbo in silver , love watching your reviews and your enthusiasm doing a great job xx
Thanks so much Martin. Very sweet of you to say 🥰🥰🥰
Great video and love you enthusiasm and your own retro style. Keep up the good work.
Thanks so much Alan ☺️
Only just noticed on second viewing that it's twincam Ed, two of my fav BL/BMC bods together. Thank you both for your honest, entertaining and knowledgeable coverage.
Ahhh yes!!! This is an oldie but goodie
@@idriveaclassic only just stumbled across yours and Eds channel a few months ago, I was chuffed to bits, can't believe I hadn't previously came across them. As a cough, cough ahem 46 year old, it's like the channels are tailor-made for me, just a trip through the cars of my youth, pure nostalgic joy. Do you know of any shows similar to the Ripon one that are held near Scarborough (I mean in normal times, not this forever asterisked time we currently have to endure) by any chance?
Loving the video. Well put together and informative. Thank you. XxA
Thank you so much Andrea ❤️❤️❤️
Great video, nice to see all the cars from my childhood. 👍👍
Thanks Michael!
Brilliant video Steph enjoyed watching 😀
Thanks so much Steven 🥰
You make me feel happy Steph. Pete 🇬🇧
wow, I've never seen so many SD1s, Allegros and Maestros in one place!! Thanks for sharing
My pleasure! Xxx
I liked your reference to the film Rita, Sue and Bob too! I remember the car from that. As did I get your reference to Purdy’s TR7 in another review. Great video! 👍
Hahahaha. I love Rita Sue and Bob too. I live close to the filming location :) x
Brilliant video, it's a shame these young owners will not have the memories of seeing them back in the day. As a 80's baby I remember them all 😍
Hahaha we must be about the same age because I remember them clearly too! I remember a metro being a choice for poor first time drivers - mad how things change!
Great video, Steph. I really enjoyed it. I subscribed a few weeks ago, and all the better for it.
That’s so sweet of you to say - thank you!!!!
This is a Fab you tub video..seeing cars from my home town Coventry, and the parkside garage i worked at as a young lad back in the early 1980's..
Thanks Tim 😘😘😘. I love old cars so much.
Hi Steph, another great video - obviously ! I had an Austin 3 Litre, and would love you to do a review - if you can find one. I was far too young to own it - I was only 21 and didn't really appreciate it - wish I had it today - I'm now 65. I also LOVE the Metropolitans - our neighbour swapped her Austin Atlantic for a Metropolitan - I'm thinking back 60 years now - OMG - where did THAT time go ! Love your videos, you are a great person :-)
Thank you for the video. Sounds like you enjoyed yourself at this marvelous show!
Hey Jim! I can hand on heart say it was one of my favourites of this year 🥰
Glad I found your channel. Very entertaining.
Cheers Russell! X
Love your Vlogs xx
Thanks for a lovely video! I'm a British car fan from Sweden, and my favourite car is the Dolly Sprint!!
Keep up the good work and, by the way, you are incredibly charming!
Ahh thank you very much!
I love your vids btw , you’re a natural . Could listen to you all day 😂
Oh hun 😘😘😘😘😘
I absolutely LOVE the Maxi and Landcrabs. My gramps first new car was an Austin 1800, he loved it. Canadian BTW.
Oh Steph......I've just got to tell you about this. Mid 90s and a friend I helped with his sons F2 stock cars. Well his son had a Metro, and next to the A158 Skeg road, broke the key off in the ignition. So there he was, drilling the key out, with everyone passing saying 'you stealing that car' LOL Just a treasured memory from the past. Thanks for another great video 😊😊👍
Hahahahah I know the exact road you mean as well 😂😂😂😂😂😂
that SD1 sounds cracking! binge-watching your older videos in lockdown! hope you, and everyone, are keeping safe :)
You too lovely!
I saw you walking about 😊 love your style and hair looked awesome. I was sat in the back of my orange Allegro x
Awww thank you so much!!!! Sorry I wasn’t able to stay and have a natter. Your car is INSANE!!! Loved it xxx
"Maybe a little bit better than a Mini"
Ed, you take that back!
😂😂😂😂😂
Well bigger, more comfortable, safer. More toys.
Don't worry! I'd have a Mini every day of the week!
If you're interested, I've made my own channel now and I've uploaded a few videos. Here's one on my little Metro.
czcams.com/video/3tJ91WjWt_Y/video.html
Omg I don't miss these at all. Worked on all of these spending hours welding floors, and everything else. Surprised I'm not dead from all the carcinogenic fumes. Never out of work maintaining this lot as a mechanic
Fair enough. I’ve been very lucky with Jill. She’s solid. But I keep on top of stuff and look after her 😊
Came across your channel by chance, currently working my way through. Love it, great vids and passion.
thanks Neil 😊😊😊
Great video thanks for giving me something to do while I've been off off sick from work
My pleasure. Hope you feel better soon x
The memories here! Not all featured, but I had a Mini, MG Montego Turbo, Spitfire, Austin Maestro 1.6, Rover 216, Austin Maxi, Rover 2600SE, MG Maestro x 2. My dad previously had an Austin A40, two Austin Cambridges, Maestro 1.6 and a Maestro 2.0D. If only we'd kept them.....!
Great video! I'm glad it's not just me who thinks 'Rita, Sue and Bob too!' whenever they see an SD1!!
Hahahahaha. Is it sad that I do?! I love that film. So funny.
@@idriveaclassic not at all, it's a great film 😂 I love the nosey neighbour with his Metro 😂 It's been a while, It's due another watch
Thanks for this film - all these cars were perfectly decent in their day and competitive with Fords, Vauxhalls etc. of the same era. Most of the worn out ones have long since been scrapped, so the seremaining cars are quite special and great to see these days :-) That Rover sounds nice. The Montegos were surprisingly quick when they were new - especially the hire car versions.
Yeah I did a test drive in a Montego and was so impressed!
Love this video, this channel and the way it is presented
Aww you cutie. Cheers! Xxx
My first car...The Metro...i'm getting old.
Great video :-)
It was my first car too 😂
Love everything BL, Great vid
Thanks Steve 🥰
Hi,love your channel, greetings from America, the 3.5 that Rover and British Leyland used originally was used by Buick and Oldsmobile from 1961 to 1963.It was raced by Mickey Thompson in his Indianapolis race car. The engine was 215 cu. inches (3.5 litres) aluminium block & heads ;I had one in a 1963 F-85 Cutlass, the engine was sold to Rover in 1965.
Aww hello back from England to America!!!!
BL products are very under-rated, another great video. I really love the SD1 V8s, and the Wolsely 6/80 Princess, although the Montego is also lovely
Thanks Leon! I’m BL til I die x
I love your enthusiasm 😊
Thanks!
more lovely Brit cars from back in the days. SD1 Rover was a fave of mine when I was growing up. I just never understood the square steering wheel of the Allegro. MG Metro was a nippy hatch back then, and with some looks and character. Great work by you again. Oh and Cranleigh was awesome last Sunday.
Sorry I can’t make all the shows! Sometimes I just need a quiet one 🥰
Something tells me that coffin in the back of the Montego Hearse is empty - at least I hope so! 🥶 I like the way you let the owners talk about their own cars. I noticed some Austin 3 litres in the background (quite rare now - they never sold well.) My all-time favourite BL cars were the Princess "wedges" - these started off as Morris, Austin and Wolesley grill/badge engineered variants (ultra-rare now) before becoming the Princesses we all love now (unless you're Jeremy Clarkson) - these had huge potential, if only more money had been available for research and development.
Excellently videoed and edited (as always!) 👍🏻
Hahahaha imagine if a body had popped up. I would’ve absolutely legged it out of there 😂
I passed my test in a Metro in 1991. They were quite popular with the driving schools back in the day. Harris Mann also designed the Princess.
Great item....gosh those were the days ! Thanks
Thanks Robert!
In the minute 26:44 there is an Austin Victoria, which were built in Pamplona (Spain) by Authi, very similar to the Austin Apache in Southafrica but much cooler. My dad had a Deluxe one.
8:50 “it’s your Uber I’m outside “ but that Rover SD-1 is sick ❤️. Xxxx
great video, loved seeing jill as well she's a sweet little car
Thanks so much Matt you’re a sweetheart xx
@@idriveaclassic the feeling is mutual steph
Hey! I’ve just found your channel! We at Hazzard are into our classic and retro cars too!
I know Martin Chamberlain. He often comes to our meets! I’ve messaged him with a link to this video.
If you’re reasonably local to Kent, you should come along to one of the Hazzard Retros meets. (The next one is our breakfast meet on Sunday 4th August from 9am).
When I see Martin, I’ll chase him up for you about doing an interview or review. Keep up the good work! 😁👍
Aww bless you thanks for the lovely comment! I’m miles away in Yorkshire but thanks for the lovely invite x
I would have that Metro MG Turbo at the beginning in the classic two tone colour scheme (particularly that silver) you saw in adds at the time in magazines/TV/etc.
Interesting reg on your Metro, I had an SD1 years ago, reg no KJD 777X 👍
great video
Another fantastic video. Like the Allegrro's, Metro's, but Tim's rare V8S is on another level. Love the fact that you asked the owners to tell the story of their car. I have to disagree with Tim though, those gold alloys on his Rover are superb.
Hey! I love chatting to the owners, I think it’s so important to give them a voice x
Hi Steph Just discovered your bids today, think Vicki Butler Henderson should watch her back. Remember getting a lift in a white SD1 when they had just come out, turned a lot of heads then, and they look better the older they get.
Rover metro GTA...what a cracking car that was 👌🏻 I remember the fake air takes on the bonnet 🤣
HAHAHAHAAH I started my driving life in a rover metro. Fond memories.
The sound of the gold SD1 is beautiful
I owned two classic Minis. It was when I owned the 2 nd one that I realised how cramped the driving position was. I'm not that tall but I had to put my right foot at a weird angle to press the accelerator. So I agree with Will that Metros are an overall better classic car ownership experience than a Mini. I liked his bottom of the range 1.1 C with the blanking plug where the rear wiper would go. Less items to break too.
My sister owned a Maestro identical to the blue one shown (Mayfair with silver mirrors).
Hey👋😃. Been watching HubNut for a while, and your channel popped up in my feed here. I love it!! U are the female version of Mr HubNut’s channel. Big shout out from Norway🇳🇴👍
Ahh hello to you in Norway. One of my favourite holiday destinations! Thank you so much! If I’m half as good as Ian, I feel I must be doing a great job. Cheers love! X
Oh! I’ve so hoped you and Ed would know each other!
Just subscribed now, im certwin ive met you at footman james in manchester when i displayed my 216 cabrio, also at P. O. L, Love your metro, and also love your hair!!! 😊, really enjoying the videos so far!
hey!!! Manchester and POL are the two I’ve never been to. I go to a lot of shows though 🥰
Im certain ive seen you somewhere, it must of been at another show 🙂 well im all subscribed and looking forward to seeing more of your videos, and maybe see you at a show soon! You must get to p.o.l!! 👍👍 B/L on steroids its brilliant!
Brilliant video Steph, I drove many BL cars but my all time favourite is the Rover SD1, I had most variants of the SD1 , except the diesel.
My favourite was the V8, I had a very early V8 manual, and a C reg Van den plas V8 manual, Misty, My early one ,and Carol, My vdp.
Carol was stolen and burnt out, my ex girlfriend stole the spare keys and gave them to a druggie with £50, with instructions to burn my car out!
That was my last classic car, I don't have a safe place to keep one. I stick to classic motorcycles now.
My ex wife made me sell my 1963 Minor 4 door too!
You should do a video on the SD1, I think you would enjoy driving a V8!
Keep up the good work Steph.
Thanks Alistair. I’m so sorry for your bad luck :(
Very good video and very well put together thats my dream one day to have an Austin x
Keep that dream going ❤️❤️❤️
Andrew Holdstock you will easily get to live your dream.
Lovely vid by the way 👍
Good handling and quite sporty especially the MG version
When I grew up in 1980s BL cars were everywhere and then disappeared in no time at all. I passed test in a 92 Metro and had two Maestros. Much under rated. Love the Maxi too. And watched Rita Sue and Bob too last week !
Hahaha I love Rita, Sue and Bob too. I miss BL cars being commonplace :(
Hi just found your channel , you waffle on a bit but i find that quite charming . Love the channel and your look.
Hahaha shall I take that as a compliment 😂😂😂😂. I waffle on quite a lot in real life too. also love going off on a tangent. Hahahahaha.
@@idriveaclassic It was meant as one
Hahaha no worries! Cheers love!
My aunt had a mini metro and it was great they used the metro rover in last of the summer wine
Knowing Dan personally, he is a really nice lad and a massive Maestro enthusiast. His partner also has a 1974 Allegro in Brazilian brown and I have a 1968 MG 1100. All three of our cars are directly related because the Allegro was the replacement for the 1100-1300, and the Maestro was the replacement for the Allegro. :)
Dan is properly lovely tbh.
I passed my test in a Mk2 Austin Metro &my 1st car was a Austin Mini 850cc 1978S.
There's a blue metro in rita sue and Bob to as well great film. cool video it's hinckley in Leicestershire car show this weekend should be good
Hahahaha screeching up outside the flats.
@@idriveaclassic lol I always thought it was a Austin ambassador that they went for a jump up moors in but it was a rover v8 your right
Hahahaha I love that film
@@idriveaclassic lol that and gregorys girl great films
Here in Australia we had a Utility Body on the 1800
There was also Princess Hearses too.. Sadly not many left due to no interest at certain age in them!!
I absolutely agree that the Allegro was a splendid little car - especially when they got the four large headlamps, as in the Allegro-3 example owned by Theresa Vincent in your video. None of its alleged "defects" justified its slow sales at any time in its lifespan. But there were some very dubious motoring pundits about who would have sold their grandmothers to get hold of a disparaging headline. Notice that even the much derided "square" steering wheel is now commonplace in today's fancy expensive foreign automobiles.
Visited that museum 15 years ago, interesting stuff in there including some pink army Land Rovers if I remember correctly. I did get bored after a while and started counting the number of drip trays under the cars to catch the leaking oil.
It’s got so much more exciting and well laid out. I mainly stayed outside because I can visit the museum any old time x
Maestro montego metro allegro sd1 brilliant love them all
Same x
My mate had an MG Metro turbo in metallic green in the mid 90's. That thing was a flying machine! He tried to keep up with patching it up but the rot got too bad and he had to scrap it in 1999. He kept the alloy wheels which he still has for some reason?
I always liked the Max since I was a kid and it still looks good.
Such nice cars x
New to your channel, great work. Would love to see you do a review of a stag.
Hey Chrissy! I’d love to. Just need to be offered :)
Very very nice.
Thank you!
From down under the 1800 was sold by Leyland Australia who modified a lot of Leyland product for Australia. New Zealand got the maxi allegro and princess and marina later they got the Montego and MG metro turbo New Zealand got most of the UK Leyland stuff sold thorough the NEW Zealand Motor Corporation. Australia was very different here they made a 6 cylinder Marina with the 262 red motor. There where also Leyland nomads a hatchback that was a cross between the maxi and 1100. Also the 1800 was developed into the Austin Tasman and the Austin Kimberley which had a 6 cylinder
Thanks Lindsay for the info. Love your overseas knowledge ❤️❤️❤️
In a brief two-year window covering most of 1980-81 (and when BL brands were still being exported to the U.S.), the SD1 was definitely an attention-getter and got generally good reviews in the U.S. auto mags. Unfortunately, that didn't translate into sales. BL sold barely more than 1250 units here. By that time, the C3 Audi 100 (aka 5000 in the U.S.) had arrived...and the future had a different look.
Fun seeing all these BL cars, so much different from what we see in the states
Love that SD1 V8. I considered buying an SD1 when they bottomed out, but left it too late.
I’d love an SD1. Pure luxury.
I had a 86 MG in 1990. It was a great little car lots of fun.
I just love them. So glad I can force my obsession onto other people now.
@@idriveaclassic You force away lol.
I Would Like To Have An AUSTIN MONTEGO Someday. 😃👍.
That Gold SD1 is beautiful..
What a car they were, but sadly not appreciated when they were new.
My dad mainly had Fords when I was a boy back in the 70/80’s although he did have four brand new Marina’s and in a funny way I have a bit of a soft spot for the BL cars, my guilty pleasure shall we say.
I’d love a Marina!
Do you know what happened to the late Keith Woodfield's Red Mini Metro from 1983? Keith died in 2018
The Austin Metro is the best looking car out there. I regret scrapping mine in 1999, wish I kept it.
Best comment ever 😂😂😂😂. They are absolutely unreal. I’d be very lost and unhappy without Jill x
