The Bad Batch is here to take us into a new era of Star Wars, and there are plenty of Easter Eggs and Star wars references in the 70-minute premiere. Following Palpatine’s rise in Revenge of the Sith, the Bad Batch are coping with the new Galactic Empire. They lose one member, but gain a new one: Omega. We break down what makes her special, her true reason for existing, and how she fits into the greater Star Wars saga.
The episode has connections to every Star Wars film and TV show. From Saw Guerrea in the Clone Wars, Rebels, and Rogue One; to the empire’s purpose for Grogu and Rey in the Mandalorian and Rise of Skywalker.
The series follows the death of the edi and the beginning of the rebellion, and we couldn’t be more excited.

You missed the droid in the beginning saying “I’m in charge”, a call back to the clone wars when grevious abandoned ship and a command droid said “Well, I guess I'm in charge now”

Tim Curry voiced Palpatine for about 6 episodes of the Clone Wars. Ian Abercrombie was the voice for the bulk of the series.

Then is was StarKiller for the last few seasons.
The VO at the beginning being back is actually really cool. The guy who does it (and also voiced Yoda and Yularen in TCW) is Tom Kane. He had a stroke fairly recently that actually caused him to lose the ability to speak, so him doing the VO here means he recovered.
He probably did it before the stroke since this show was announced back in July 2020. I can't find any info on his status, sadly

I'm nearly certain this will be the only episode with a VO intro. I suspect like the logo burning away, they meant it as one final nod to the Clone Wars.
The Clone Troopers that Yoda killed in that shot were not Coruscant Guard, but Clones of the 501st Legion.

@@tehillahcohenstuart7267 You are right. However there was very subtle line that Anakin said to Ahsoka on the venator saying, “ what if we split the DIVIDE the 501st. We can promote Rex to commander and Ahsoka can lead them as an advisor.” So only part of the legion was on Mandalore. The rest went to the Jedi temple with Anakin later in the movie.
The show “The Clone Wars” made almost every clone look different under their helmets. Everyone had different hair, hair coloring, tattoos, and facial hair. In this show, it stripped all of that away from the “regs” by making them all look uniform in the cafeteria. Love that.
And i know people will say “that’s just because they’re on Kamino and probably newbies” but if you look back at the Clone Wars episode “Clone cadets” you’ll see there were still things that made at least some clones stand out.
Also the shock trooper captain is only distinguishing features is the shoulder armor
They also kept their helmets on a lot more often, and their entire body language changed. Not just an animation style choice, because the Bad Batch move and act like before.
The ones in kamino (other than the shock troopers) would more than likely have been shinies, not veterans.

You can notice this just by watching the episode on it’s own, but this breakdown really made me realize how tightly the Bad Batch show is connected to the entire Star Wars story from Rogue One to the clone wars and rebels to the originally trilogy with the inclusion of Tarkin. Everything is connected so well and I’m loving it so far.
One small thing I noticed from this episode was when omega was searching the Bad Batch's barracks and the troopers come in she said she got lost and then she got thrown in the brig. A similar thing happened in the first Boba Fett Arc in clone wars when Boba is setting a bomb in Mace's quarter and gets caught he also said he got lost as an excuse and the troopers joked with him before kindly telling him where to go kind of shows how the attitudes of the clones have changed after order 66
At the same time, boba was technically one of the clones, so the clones likely treated him better because of that, whereas here omega is different from them so they don't like her (notice how the regs treated the bad batch in the lunchroom earlier)
Was this in a comic or the show cause I just looked up that scene and that didn't happen, mace saw him after he got down the hall and told him "eyes forward cadet" after he ran into him.

I wasn’t sure about Omega in the trailers and stuff but after then episode so far I’m genuinely loving omega so far they are doing that character right
That isn’t Depa Billaba’s body on Kamino, the hand is green and purple, Depa’s hands aren’t, the lightsaber is also different, plus it’d make no sense for them to be carrying her body out of the Kamino facility.

@@funtastic6169 probably some other Jedi that was present on Kamino besides Shaak-ti (who should have died on Grievious’s ship when he kidnapped Palpatine at the end of the war, I think it’s in some deleted scene)

I saw discussions with the idea that Omega’s mutation is kinda like the Taskmaster from marvel, where she picks up and learns skills from watching others very quickly. Plus I love the idea of a female variant of the clones
I have a strong feeling that Omega knows about the chips. By the way she talked to Crosshair, and how she is accompanied by BZ who worked with Fives.

anyone else confused why they don't consider the clone wars a civil war. I mean, there are separatists. kinda the crux of any civil war
@@brettreinert5465 I mean we have to consider how there were already small factions, like the trade federation and the neutral systems. The separatists was formed by many factions so we could say it was another large union fighting for independence. With the Rebellion, their goal was to topple the empire, not just form a new faction and being left alone.

@@brettreinert5465 You are right -- the Clone War (or Clone Wars, whatevs) *is* a civil war.
The definition of a civil war is that it's a conflict within a country (as opposed to between countries). So, if the rebellion vs the Empire is a civil war, then so is the CW. (That means we consider the galactic Republic/Empire equivalent to a country.)
While I was watching the training scene, I realized that this was the second time Echo had been in a training simulation. It's kinda sad tho cause it's not with the og domino squad

The music playing when Hunter and Crosshair are searching for Caleb in the forest is incredibly similar to the music played at the end of the Clone Wars season 7, when Ahsoka buries all the clones and ditches her lightsabers

@@andrewsavely7168 The Kaminoan could have found how to make force sensitive clones but the story of Bad Batch may show us how they rebelled against the empire when the clone program was shut down. They destroy their secret and that's why we see the stuff about cloning and force sensitive research in the Mandalorian. Basically Palpatine may find out that it is possible but will have to start over again with his own researchers.
I noticed when Kanan jumps over the hole it shows the distance he has for the clones, how he will have to get over the loss of his master to once again trust the clones. I think the shows how he will once again have to take a leap of faith.
Good catch, I love when these shows have great symbolism. Another genius example is the final episode of Clone Wars season 7 where Ahsoka and Rex are trying to escape the Republic cruiser that's crashing and burning, because the flaming ship going down represents the Galactic Republic itself being destroyed.
Before crosshair attacks he spits out his toothpick signaling the last of his individuality is gone and he’s now a tool of the empire.
I think he does this at least twice in the episode, maybe more- but yeah I like that idea.
I like the theory that Omega is not force-sensitive, but rather her mutation makes her super empathic; it's why she understood Crosshair, and she got the shot with the blaster because she absorbs skills/knowledge super fast.
i just figured she understood because she's the assistant of a clone doctor, she probably knew about the chip from medical scans or something.
I don’t hope her mutation is to absorb knowledge and skills super fast because it can really easily make her unrelatable as a character.

It was actually Ian Abercrombie who voiced Palpatine for most of the Clone Wars. Tim Curry took over in seasons 5 and 6 when Abercrombie died.
5:12 Tim Curry didn't voice Palpatine for most of the Clone Wars, he took up the voice for season 6 and some of 5, after the passing of Ian Abercrombie.

Thats already been explained? While Tarkin isn't a moff yet, he's probably one of Palpatine's most trusted military advisors, meaning he has considerable sway. The empire needs more money for the Death Star and the Tarkin Doctrine, and while the clones are effective, they are far too costly, plus Tarkin hates them.
What else do you need to know? We know clones are more expensive. We know while they're better fighters, it was becoming harder and harder to make more of them from the Jango DNA. We know by the end of the war there aren't very many left, comparatively speaking. We know that active clones can run into serious problems after Order 66 is activated. Lastly, we know that clones are good at fighting wars, not at being policemen and security guards on every backwater world the Empire wanted to maintain a presence.
I wonder if all those chips in all those Clone heads have a kind of 'Belko Experiment' killswitch feature so somebody high up just turns them all 'off'...
Well one comic book (well it could be canon but everything is weird for Disney remade what's canon) where the kamanoins on kamino were secretly making their own clone army to turn on the empire but only the newer batches of clones had this version of the chip thus causing the clones (most anyway) to turn on the empire forcing Palpatine to send troops to attack kamino and terminate the cloning program.
Either way I like this better but Disney made much new lore and Canon it's hard to keep track (rip original death troopers)
Original canon had it that there was a Clone revolt on Kamino, after which the Empire started conscripting into the ranks of stormtroopers. Only Vader’s Fist (501st) remained manned purely by clones.
"She appears to be telepathic" oooooor she knows the truth about the inhibitor chips or a partial version of it. She literally works in the medical wing with the Kaminoans. The inhibitor chips are pretty basic knowledge, as it's brought up by Tech(?) during the episode.

Omega was most likely able to see it because she knew about the chips and could tell Crosshair was acting differently than usual.
Tech doesn’t know specifically about the chips. He only knows that the clones have restricted cognitive abilities. There is a difference.
The scene where all the clones listen to Palpatine's speech reminded me off the one where general Hux talks to the First Order

He will, she told him it will NOT be his fault because she knew what was about to happen. The need to tell him this now is because when the control over his mind will be off, he will remember what he did (at some point) so he can forgive himself later on.
In the end when the Bad Batch is trying to leave Kamino and Wrecker throws some plates, It reminded me of the Maul hallway scene

I recall Sam Witwer reprised his work as Palpatine for Rebels
Witwer voiced him in Season 2 "The Siege of Lothal". Ian McDiarmid himself voiced the Emperor in Season 4 of Rebels.

You missed that when the Clones return to Kamnio, Crosshair was the only member of the batch that had his helmet on.
It shows that he will remain loyal to the Empire whereas his brothers will defect and he will hunt them down.
It is also most likely a callback to the Battlefront 2 campaign where Iden and Del of Inferno squad defect from the empire on Vardos, as when the 3 man squadron arrived planet-side only Hask had his helmet on.

@@ShadowHawk24Real I'm not sure how it works, at about 6:15 in the episode he just puts it on like a regular helmet, with one swift stroke. Chalk it up to filmmaking smoke and mirrors LOL.
Did you also notice that the actress Michelle Ang who played Omega is from New Zealand like Temuera Morrison who played the Fetts/Clones and have the same accent? Nice touch.

I'm more than pleased that you're doing these breakdowns for this series, I watch all of this stuff! Moreover, this is possibly the best advert segue I've ever seen! I actually thought you were going to talk about how somehow the clones sometimes look different in different media.

I noticed Captain Styles is the only Clone Trooper with an updated Episode 3 helmet design with the black line on the forehead.
yep thats because they reused clone wars models for all the other troopers,same way in CW S7 only 33nd had updated f01st armour markers with leg paint

The droids they’re fighting in the training range are precursors to the imperial sentry droids from Rebels, not the dark troopers.
I Think that Omega will grow up to be Captain Phasma.

One little detail I love is Echo's armor paint looks newer and brighter red than the rest of the Bad Batch, since he is the newest member. I wish we could have gotten a scene of how the clones paint their armor. Do they use stencils? Who supplies all the crafts? Do they have like a body shop but for armor on Kamino?
