Michael Porter Jr Makes NBA Debut, but STILL Wearing Brace for Foot Drop and Remains Injury Risk

- Michael Porter Jr is making his NBA debut with the Denver Nuggets, and while everyone is excited to see what he can do, he's still been wearing a specialized brace called an AFO that's designed to help people with foot drop. I'm worried about MPJ's long term injury risk since he's still showing signs of nerve damage over a year after his last back surgery.

Pls make a video on how Saquan was so quick to do these outrageous exercises with a high ankle sprain only 1-3 weeks after
Gabriel Chavez it was within two weeks he was running and jumping again, shit is crazy
PED and genetics....
There’s probably still some pain but as long as he don’t reinjure I’m sure he used to doing that. If it ain’t broke, work don’t stop
Y’all must’ve never had an high ankle sprain it usually takes 2-3 weeks to heal. That’s just for a regular person, it’s faster for athletes who have doctors on standby for them unlike regular people who just elevate it on a pillow on the couch not that crazy
I’ve had an high ankle sprain and I’m not some super freak athlete with doctors on standby so imagine him, it’s normal
He’s looked great all training camp and during the scrimmage as well. I hope nothing but success for MPJ
Hi Brian, was wondering if you could make a video on Tottenham and French Goal keeper, Hugo Lloris’ recent injury, thanks.
If he is healthy long term we really are seeing a star, dude will take over the league. Looking forward to him getting buckets
Hey doc, just listening to you makes me smarter already. Thanks!
I'm going to the blazer / nugget game tonight! Cant wait to try and spec him out tonight! Thanks for the Information doc :)
Meghan Fielduvdreams Hope you don’t see him snap his leg
hi beautiful im from Philippines
This guy fucks
@Owen Marble LOL
Before I watch I want to say thank you for listening my advice for the video. Tnx
Hi, is it possible for you to do a video on Hugo lloris for Tottenham in English football league. I think he dislocated his elbow thank
Great video keep up the good work!
I've had two microdiskectomys and a fusion at L5-S1 3 months ago. Before my last microdisk in 2018 I had foot drop in my right foot and it was terrible. It took right around 4 months for the foot drop to go away but the nerve damage in my calf never went away. Take care of your back hahaha it's super important.
I already loved your vids man, but after the Zion prediction I’m a huge fan. Great stuff.
Hey Brian would love to see a video on Hugo Lloris’ injury
Really good video!
Can you do Hugo Lloris’s elbow dislocation
The foot drop brace concerns me quite a bit. Expanding on the kinetic chain concept, if Porter Jr's muscles are weak in his ankles, then he won't absorb forces well either.
A typical NBA athlete absorbs the forces from an NBA game by distributing those forces throughout the kinetic chain. Your feet, ankles, knees, hips, back, and upper body all soften the blow of landing or shifting weight. If one kink in that chain is insufficient, then other parts of the body have to compensate, i.e. the spine. If Porter Jr's vertebral discs are already problematic, then playing in the NBA will not be the cure. All that said, Porter is an elite athlete and still very young, so all this could be an overreaction.
However, trainers need to make sure that he's landing softly and moving fluidly, or this could get worse
Nice insight
Hi Brian. I am a Nuggets fan who had the same surgery as MPJ 2 years ago on my L4-L5 and L5-S1 to deal with loss of dorsiflexion of my left foot. I am feeling much better now and start working on my strength and conditioning with the hope that I can start playing basketball again. However, I can still tell my left toes are not 100% as strong as they were before. Pressing down on both feet and trying to raise my toes I can tell the difference. In addition, I recently had a minor injury my left side MCL playing pickup games because my foot just sort of gave out when I slipped on a drive. Is this concerning to you and how should I evaluate my fitness to play basketball going forward? Would you recommend AFO in this case? Thanks a lot in advance and I really appreciate your excellent work in making this video!
Biggest issue will be tripping especially when taking off from a stop. Pushing off laterally on the bad foot. Foot drop sucks but you learn to live with it and find ways to adjust. I’ve never had a brace for mine. Didn’t even know they existed tbh, ortho never mentioned it. Rolled ankles will be his biggest risk but I found that when i roll my ankle on my bad foot that it doesn’t hurt as bad as with my other. It’s mostly just annoying.
He's like Tracy McGrady 8 years in to his career and hasn't played a game. Not good.
mcgrady had problems in highschool too. If i remember correctly mcgrady had a back condition very early in his career.
@@kaskoosek that's the joke.
@@bgilley8199 i thought he meant hes like mcgrady 8 years after being drafted which was very injuiry prone.
@@kaskoosek Yes, I meant 8 years after being drafted, that's the joke, because McGrady was injury prone right from the start of his career, so by 8 years in the NBA he was a wreck.
@Hassan 2k Whiteside To be honest skillwise he reminds of mcgrady. Yes the explosiveness is not there, but mpj is oozing potential.
Hope he will have a great season. 😁
Could you please do a followup video on this condition? It would really help we got excercises and things to do to treat this.
Nuggets need to play him off the bench and gradually increase his minutes.
That’s exactly what they’ll do
Yooo can we get an updated video on MPJ? I think he’s still wearing the AFO
u the 🐐 Doc!
Could you cover more football/soccer injuries it could tap into a larger audience. I would love to see a vid on Hugo Lloris
Can you explain Hugo Lloris elbow injury?
Can you please make a video talking more in detail on the kyrie Irving facial fracture
Is the NBA irresponsible? If he was in the NFL he’d be on Injured reserve.
Jason C. Just so you know, Cowboys player Jalen Smith wore a brace for foot drop for an entire year. He tore his knee apart in college.
i mean hes been on the injury list for 2.5 years now. he needs to play some time..
lol what planet are you from where the NFL is possibly even remotely more responsible and honest than the nba about how they treat and handle player injury
@@kevinseveneleven I mean I'm not gonna lie nba sucks
@@DeadPizza nobody asked you if the nba sucks or not.
any suggestions for pattella femoral sydrome treatment exercises? I am suffering for more than 2 years.. best regards
That kid now grown man might never play an official NBA game in his career, but will still getting paid. Talking about living the dream. Hopefully he can be healthy and fulfill his dream. Spoiler alert, he'll be rookie of the year in 2025.
Fortunately he's now an NBA champ and one of the best shooters in the nba
DO MORE SOCCER!! Do the Lloris dislocated elbow. How does that even work!! They had to stretch him off with oxygen mask. Still hurts me to think of it
Sebastian Rodriguez who !?!?
Sebastian Rodriguez No. Soccer is boring.
@@ddgs07 He already did it so I W I N :D
Do you have any info on Akiem Hicks?
Does a bone or replaced tendon ever fully heal to the point where theres no increased risk of reinjury? And is the decreased performance of sports players after something like an acl repair due to weakness/pain or more of a mental thing where they've fearful of reinjury?
Yo i dislocated my knee cap a couple of times already on both knee and sometimes it pops out and pops back in on its own again. How do i prevent further injury in future
Do Jonathan Abram! He dislocated his shoulder but also tore 3 tendons!
What does it mean if I have the same issue as Steph in those couple clips? I am constantly rolling my left ankle when I play basketball. I've never sprained it though and never had any surgeries on anything, but if I play basketball and plant too hard with my left foot, it just rolls over itself and down I go. Should I be worried?
Gotta get stronger hip flexor muscles.
Preseason number one against the blazers tonight. We’ll see how many minutes he’ll play.
Look away one minute and come back and this dude got over 100k subs, nice 🤣
Sign a contract with the mavs, you are highly qualified for their med tech.
Im concerned this young man being 21yrs old having 2 major back operations. Out of most injurys your back is so important. Even if he has an nba a career he will know when to get out if his injuries worsens. Make $ and bail.
I got in a car accident in June 2018 I shattered my patella I also had foot drop until about April 2019 i was finally able to move my foot on my own .. it is not as strong as my left foot . Just wondering should I still wear my afo?🤨
AFO increase safety, and improve gait efficiency when muscles are weak.
If you feel like you are likely to still trip on your toes, or are walking in unfamiliar places, might be wise to keep wearing it.
Do Kevin ware and ryan shazier?
Coach had him on restrictions, MPJ says he feels good too so we shall see
make a video of boxer joe ward suffering a leg injury during his fight
I really hope he can keep himself healthy but an 82 game NBA season is such a grind.
Yup
I'm not sure if you answer Q's, but you do mention Steph. Coming into to the league his first few years, Steph had such bad ankle troubles. Is Steph a medical miracle? We all want to see MPJ succeed, in reading about his family, does injury actually run in genes? I read that his sister has had 5 ACLR's.
Save your money MPJ! Godspeed
I don't think his career will be a long one 🤕, Hope the nuggets get the most out him, And he maximizes his earning potential
172 million
He was using one in his debut game against Portland too
His career gonna be short...really short. Its a shame because he got so much talent. Hes the perfect basketball prospect.
He make a mistake trying to play for Missouri
I couldn't find a good pic of it :/
I've had issues with ankle sprains my whole life and those clips of Steph made me queasy.
update on mpj?
Both great and unfortunate genetics. Tall, quick, athletic. Yet very injury prone like his siblings. Hope he can stay healthy 🙏
If I remember correctly MPJ and his siblings are all on some extreme gluten free, raw food, vegan diet. They might be one of the rare cases of people actually requiring red meat (not just protein replacement) to stay healthy.
@@Karen-pk3uv You are correct, but MPJ has been off of that diet since being drafted by the Nuggets. He said the change was for muscle and strength purposes.
Every nuggets fan should throw him a piece of steak no cap if it works to help his muscles
@@tn15_ thanks for the update 😊. I'm not a Nuggets fan, born and raised in the Bay Area, no matter how many times I've moved since then I've remained loyal to my teams. In general, since I played a lot of sports (mainly basketball) growing up, I cringe when I find out any athletes have major injuries, and try to follow their progress. Not to mention despite the sports and additional hiking and other activities I have always been highly injury prone, and would never cheer at another player suffering that type of pain.
@@nmasijika7557 there are steak of the month clubs you can sign people up for lol
Can you do a video on Davante Adams turf toe injury against the eagles that kept him out a week maybe around 2 weeks ago
This is kinda a personal question but im currently majoring in chemical engineering and am considering med school. I had prior interest the medical field, and the more I watch these videos the more interested I get. What made you know that you wanted to become a doctor as I am trying to decide whether or not to go for it
Is it possible for the brace to serve as a preventive measure rather than to help improve his health?
Spot on, reducing risk of tripping over or twisting his ankle. Ankle brace obviously will not help with the root cause of his problem, the nerves
Do Davante Adams!
Imo yea could still be hurt but I know after I broke my ankle I kept that brace on for months
What about hip?ps?
This is interesting af.
as far as i look at it it's better if the brace snaps over his ankle he'll probably be fine for now
He is protecting his chicken legs lol
Folks, this is why we have college! This guy is EDUCATED.
Whoever disliked must’ve misclicked or something
What kind of injuries are genetic ?
Can you please help me I have a blood clot in my iliasopas muscle that is 4.5 centimeters by 5 centimeters
Go back to your doctor!
Any chance the training staff continues to make him wear it to be cautious? Or only because he probably still hasn’t healed
Foot drop isn't a muscular/skeleton injury so the brace(this type) wouldn't serve any purpose then help with nerve damage
@@Nevgetdamoney wrong, foot drop is dorsiflexor MUSCLE weakness. Now the reason might indeed be nerve related (as is in this case), but not always. Nerves regenerate slowly, but after 12 months it's far less likely to improve
Lonzo Ball drug his feet and tripped on his toes dribbling down the court literally like 2 nights ago. Looked so weird but they said it was cramps. But I've never seen cramps that do that. Plus he's had a history of ankle injuries as well.
He was wearing the brace in his nba debut
can you explain turf toe since Davante Adams has it
zachary sanger it’s like you land all your weight on your big toe by itself and it bends back it’s like jamming your toe
/finger
espn to needs to get this guy on with Stephania Bell
I dont think he was wearing it the other night.
some guys in the NFL have drop foot. He'll be just fine
Interesting channel... will sub and check your content out!
Glen Rice had something similar
Why did he need surgery in the first place?
So a minor injury is going to make it worse because of his drop foot
Michael Bispings eye injury
Hey so I have a crazy injury history. I’m a college baseball player (pitcher). I broke both of my arms in high school and had metal plates put in my wrist. I never got them removed. I made a come back and now I throw around 88mph, but I tore my ucl last season. The plates don’t cause pain, but I’m worried that they may have led to my UCL injury. Right now I am 5 months out of a UCL repair surgery and I plan to pitch in December. Do you think I should get the plates removed? Some doctors have told me yes and some no.
In Europe when they schedule the initial surgery they schedule the surgery for plate removal as well.
does anyone know how MPJ suffered the herniated discs?
All I know is that it happened when he was at Missouri
According to the scientific literature, it must have been his vegan diet. Kappa
@@aavoxo stop taking bullshit clown
Why would I watch this mans foot closely who the heck I look like a foot doctor a foot watcher. Gas prices are 5 dollars a gallon rent is over 1300 a month for a studio apt. This man makes millions of dollars his foot will be okay with or without me watching it smh.
I work in hospital stroke unit and saw many folks with and developed foot drop. It's a bitch
So it stop yo feet from smacking the front of yo shoes ? Cuz the shit be hurting my big toe lmao
Don’t lift from the floor cmon coaches..
Man made a trade on 2k he got injured constantly I mean constantly got hurt
why is there a dislike, lmao.
Mpj's foot drop disliked this video
Looked like that foot drop effected him last night, oh wait it didn’t lol.
He looked a step slow
Lol that boy was in slow motion tf u mean
It’s his first game , even fully healthy players aren’t themselves till like midway thru season “mid season form” heard of that express?
Hes in the NBA, I'm sure they're gonna have him a brace that's not gonna snap so easy
Do you think Zion’s career will be hindered the way Derrick Rose is because of his incredibly athletic playstyle? Or can the injuries than are related to the playstyle can be avoided?
He’s going to get injured again. Everybody needs to accept it.
Everyone gets injured
mostmost1 yeah his will be really bad based off his family history hope It don’t happens
his posture looks weird when he’s on the court
@@mostmost1 He had 2 back cirurgies and is about to be 20, he already had weird posture and family historic.
One his siblings tore their acl and 3 ligaments etc.
He needs to hang it up.
He should just retire and stay safe
How can you retire if you havent played a real game yet lol
Gixxer90 you obviously don’t catch up on basketball, people have done that before.
@@ForeverVibez names?
bro gotta start eatin meat
Mpj whole family is injury prone. He wont last long.
Do you think that his vegan diet instead of help him can actually harms him?
Luckily he recently ditched the vegan diet this last summer.
How would a vegan diet harm him?
@@NVangN Humans dont absorb synthetic proteins or plant proteins as efficiently as Meat eaters Or omnivores. Vegan diet is a great way to lose weight but bad long term. Ask yourself, when in humans history have we had Blenders and supplementary pills before Electricity was discovered 🤷🏿♂️.
@@AlfieTank vegans only need to supplement b12, and only because we don't drink water out of streams and because we wash our vegetables. You don't need anything else. 39% of Americans are b12 deficient anyway, so it's hardly a vegan-only issue. Also, protein isn't a problem. On average, vegans get more protein than is recommended (just like meat-eaters), and is definitely not an issue
Looks like he plays stiff
he's out of the rotation
Zion isn't even the best dunking rookie
Ben Simmons rule applies
No disrespect to him but how tf u not play and still be injured
