500 Greatest Generals in History: 200-101

- This video shows the 200th to 101st best military commanders by battles won, according to Wikipedia.
List of battles won by general: docs.google.com/document/d/19...
Battles are included only if they have a Wikipedia article
Methodology:
I used Wikipedia as a directory of battles:
1. I created a query with Wikidata Query to get the list of all articles tagged as "battle" by Wikipedia. This gives me about 12,000 battles
2. I downloaded the data that is included in the top right hand table of every of those Wikipedia article. I did it for the following versions of Wikipedia: English, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, Greek, Turkish, Serbo-Croatian, Japanese, Danish, Norwegian, Slovakian, Dutch, Polish, Hungarian, Czech, Hindi, Hebrew, Basque, Bulgarian, Romanian, Catalan, Finnish, Swedish, Vietnamese, Persian, Indonesian, Korean
3. I cleaned up the data on Excel to remove double entries :
4. I created an index of countries with their predecessor states:
These old generals looking so cool in my eyes

They infact looked very cool. But in my opinion these in armor look less cool than these in uniforms.
@@doookkk I think the ones in armour or statues look badass

I feel like win-loss recording would be even more telling.
@Pepe the Frog make senses right i wonder did people ever think before commenting
@Pepe the Frog I know but I mean that win-loss record is also taken into account, not as thhe only factor but as an important one.
@@doookkk You're actually right, just rank based on the total number of battles, get the wins/losses, then get the percentage, that should be more accurate.
thinkin the same thing the ratio makes it more accurate if so just add the lost battles atleast you can still make a recording of the same numbers that won the battles
@Lord Revan @Pepe the Frog a better idea would be Wins minus Losses

Tbh we need a definition of 'battle', there's surely no such thing in the past.Plus, the size and difficulty of wars are different, so we shoulnt judge the general only by the number of battles won

Well using a World War 1 exampe is extremly bad. France wasn't really good in the 20th century. France only survived, because of it's allies. I also would say that Russia was the main country to fight against Germany in World War 1.
@@iteachyou1575 Russia surrenderd in 1917" And? Russia was the main enemy of the central powers. As you should know Austria-hungary declared war on Serbia, Russia declared war on Austria, Germany declared war on Russia and then France comes in. It has nothing to do with loosing battles. It is a fact, that Russia was the main nation. France was the main western nation. Yes, I totally agree. Russia was never saved by the allies. In fact France even supported the communists/socialists.
Uh, the Soviet Union survived because of the allies and because Hitler really wanted Stalingrad, which resulted to a heavy loss. The allies were useful in this moment, because Germany expected something like D-day. That means not 100% of the army fighted the Russians.
Germany never really lost land during 1914. Besides that the battles were always together. (Like France and UK fight one battle together)
There are always allies in a war, so I don't know what you want to tell me. And saying, that nations should do 1v1 basically means xy nation is stronger than xy nation. And in this case, I am 100% sure, that Germany was stronger than France
