    It’s a great idea. I do the same but the issue is if the thief has an iPhone, it will alert him that he’s being tracked. I have 24 air tags. It’s better than not having it anything.Thanks for the waterproof case tip. I did not know about that. It’s $30 for 1 or 4 for $100 and there’s no service fee

    I do two things I run the thickest chain that’ll fit through my rim slots around the frame and the leafspring more importantly, when I’m at the ramp, I run that chain around my trailer and attach it to my bumper where my trailer cannot be stolen when I’m at the ramp.

  • @rapidpaintlessdentremovalp2230

    I love Apple AirTags, but they’re not really a tracking device. Apple makes that clear, they will notify the person who takes it, even let that person play a tone to locate it. But I do believe it’s still way better than nothing.

    • @JDsWaterWorld
      @JDsWaterWorld  Před 6 měsíci +2

      I believe they will only alert a 3rd party once “lost mode” is enabled, otherwise the notifications are limited to the individuals you add to share the tag with. This gives 3rd parties an “opportunity” to help return the missing or stolen item. I could be wrong though, I have tore-read the info guide. They don’t want people using these to stalk their exes etc etc…

    The problem is Apple is very concerned about people misusing the air tag so it will nicely warn the thief’s phone that it’s being tracked with the air tag and gives them the option to disable it.

    • @JDsWaterWorld
      @JDsWaterWorld  Před 2 měsíci

      They cannot disable the tag if it’s put into “lost mode” by the owner. Also if it shows up on another individual’s device it’s already logged their identity and location to assist them with reaching legal owner

  • @whotube357
    @whotube357 Před 6 měsíci

    Keep in mind Airtags have "precision tracking" and an internal speaker that allows someone with an iphone to ping it to protect against stalkers. So a crook just needs to scan your ski with an iphone to find your airtag. Just saying.

    • @JDsWaterWorld
      @JDsWaterWorld  Před 6 měsíci +1

      I am fairly certain others on the crowdsource network can only see your tag on their iPhone if it’s set to “lost mode.” Only individuals added to your tag on the “shared” list can view the tag location is my understanding. If I’m wrong, maybe it would be a deterrent then if they know it’s tagged but that seems to be it would be a violation of privacy..but of course apple is known for that..and I get the point of preventing stalking..I’ll have to research that further. EDIT I went back just now and looked again, and according to Apple, random users cannot see the location or ping your tags unless they are set to “lost mode” EDIT AGAIN: It looks like Apple does have an app that lets you see air tags around you, so I guess you can detect a stranger’s tag.

    • @intaction
      @intaction Před 6 měsíci

      @@JDsWaterWorld A crook doesn't have to be on the "crowdsourced network" or be on your shared list to find your tag. There is an app for android and apple called Tracker Detect that will find hidden Airtags. It's for people that want to make sure that a stalker hasn't put a tag on their car or elsewhere. Airtags are a weak security tracking solution because you have to hope the crook is dumb.

    • @JDsWaterWorld
      @JDsWaterWorld  Před 6 měsíci

      I mean personally I don’t think that’s a terrible thing because it might serve as a deterrent. In my case they would need a set of tools and would need a good 30 minutes to get the ski apart to find the tag, unlikely anyone would steal it knowing it’s tagged. And then have a redundant tag as well..from a different brand. I’ve used 12v or hard wired and battery GPS trackers before and they are great- but very expensive and not suitable for most.
