  • May 10, 2021: Preventing Theft of Your Boat, Trailer, and Fishing Gear doesn't have to cost a fortune.
    In this video I will show you four budget-friendly hacks you can do to help prevent theft of your boat, trailer, and fishing gear while traveling. Remember, a determined thief with enough time can defeat any security measures. Most thieves, however, want to commit their theft quickly so as not to be noticed. The object is to make your boat and trailer a difficult target so that a potential thief decides it's not worth his or her time.

    The second part isnt required because if they break the first part then the rest comes off. Should have a seperate tow ball lock
    I have about 4 locks for my trailer
    . One goes through the wheels and can't be bolt cut. Then another on other wheel. That can be bolt cut. Then a hitch lock can be used while on and off car, and another chain . Oh and a camping alarm.

      Hey mate, would you please explain more about how you locked your trailer. I've done what the video suggested but I like the fact that your lock through the wheels cannot be cut?
      Cheers

    A bolt cutter and 15 seconds to have your trailer locks cut (both the coupler and the wheel). Sad, but true.
    p.s. - They don't even recommend cable locks for locking up bicycles anymore.

      Locks only keep honest folks honest. For the rest, it's why we have hollow points. Sad but true.

      @@TheWeekendAngler Unfortunately, the local authorities where I live frown on the use of hollow points by private citizens as a theft deterrent. In fact, they don't even approve of regular rounds or even buckshot.🙄

      @@dogrsqr getting sad, isn't it? Basically what you want to do is make your trailer a little harder to steal than just backing up to it and taking it. It won't deter a determined thief, but most thieves want an easy target. They'll leave it alone and take one that isn't locked up. More time spent messing with something is more chances of getting caught.
      That's my professional opinion having nearly 20 years experience of service in this "local authorities" of which you speak, my friend. 😂

    It’s a shame that we have to go through stuff like this but, there is always some trash that wants what we got without working for it. Great tips Josh.

    Aren’t bold cutters easy enough to come by that it defeats these methods?

    • @TheWeekendAngler
      @TheWeekendAngler  Před 5 měsíci

      Here's my professional take on this from over 20 years on the job... On a long enough timeline, nothing is safe. But, if you make your property a little harder than the next guy's, odds are thieves will mess with the easier target.
      Thieves want to be in and out all while attracting as little attention to themselves as possible.

    So, how can I lock up the catalytic converter on the tow vehicle? Metal is going up and the thieves are cutting cats off vehicles in the ramp parking lots! Absolutely hate a thief!

    • @TheWeekendAngler
      @TheWeekendAngler  Před 3 lety

      That goes on a lot anymore. I saw where some guy welded a bunch of bars to his frame to completely cover the cat. Not sure I'm willing to go that route.

      Let's be realistic here. Nothing you can do will stop a determined thief. All ecan do is make it a difficult target to encourage a thief to select a softer target.
      Thieves want something they can steal quickly. The longer they have to mess with something, the higher the chances of getting caught.

      The best locks in the world only keep an honest man honest. Best advice is keep an eye on your stuff and make anyone you catch messing with it regret it dearly....
