My children unscrewed the top of the door lock and then the metal stem that remained went down in side the door panel and couldn't pop up to unlock the door! This video saved the day. I got the stem to line up with the hole and then hit unlock and it popped up so I could open the door and it was all just like the video from there. THANK YOU for helping me not break parts of my door figuring this out by myself.

Excellent tutorial. This was the best resource I found to show access to door actuator and speaker on a 2013 F-150. Great job!!

Good to know not to expect those plastic rivet things. I always break 1 or 2 whenever I've worked on other vehicles.

Very clear and precise instructions to follow. Everyone should take notes on how to teach.

Great video. I came across it when I was searching how to open my rear door panel because the door was unable to open (locked) from the inside or out. All steps are great except getting the bottom two bolts from inside a locked door. The rest of the panel could lift up and out enough to access the locking mechanism and unlock the door to allow the door to open. Thanks.

thanks! I may have to do a little work on BOTH of my rear doors on my 2012 F-150. One of them messed up, now the other one has messed up! Are the locks and door handles on these things prone to malfunctioning?

So how does this come off if the door is shut and locked? My kid pulled upon the lock inside the door and broke it. Key fob won't unlock it.

You don't have to remove the panels, once all screws are off just let it hang from the bottom hinges, you'll have enough space to unscrew them with a ratchet and you're all set. Same thing goes for the front

Thanks for the post. I the rear door lock isn't working so I have to try to get in there to see if something is disconnected. All the other doors are working fine but the driver side rear doesn't hopefully something just came loose. for a while it would happen once in a while and now doesn't work at all

Did you find a fix for the issue? Locking actuator or loose wire or something? My rear passenger is locking, but it won't unlock unless I pull the post up by hand and it usually takes pliers.

Old as dirt post, but a tip for anyone having this issue (or another like "door ajar", windows not responding, no speaker sound) - check the wire harness inside the rubber grommet between the door and pillar. Over time, the flexing causes the wires to break. They can be repaired individually, or the entire harness replaced.

Good to know but I'm gonna stop at under 3 minutes in. My door won't open from inside or outside and I cannot get to the 6mm bolts on the bottom.

I’ve never understood how the car manufacturers’ engineers simply wouldn’t make a removable speaker grill that snaps (or screws) into place over the removable speakers as an access panel in the panel itself. That way should something ever go wrong or you just want upgrade your speakers you can. Not to mention it would cut down on how much time it takes their techs to access something if it’s at the dealership. But then again, I’m sure longer billable labor is part of the profit margin. 🙄

It is unnecessary to remove the door handle cable. Simply push in on the clips, push the door handle module through then turn it sideways, and you can push it back through the door panel.

It works great, however I didn't find this post until I had already done something stupid. My outside latch wasn't working, so I thought that something might be wrong with the child lock, so I switch it back and forth to see if it would free something. It didn't. Then without thinking about what position the child lock was in I closed the door.
Can't get to the bottom two screws to remove panel. Anyone have an idea how I can unlock the child lock, in the position the door is in?
I would certainly appreciate any help.
