Never understood why people would be rude to people starting out at the gym, always makes me uncomfortable to try going to the gym.
I had similar concerns when I decided to get a gym membership a couple years ago, but I've found out such things are less common than all the stories make it seem. In my experience, most people just keep to themselves and focus on their routines. Owners are usually pretty quick to ban bullies too, and the majority of other members are willing to help out and offer encouragement.
I'm in the best shape now than I've ever been in my life, and this has made a major impact in how I feel overall. You should give it a go if its something you truly feel you want to do.

Most people who go to the gym are perfectly functional adults who either mind their own business, or encourage unfit people to keep attending and keep working at it. The problem is that gym rats are usually the stories that stand out in peoples' mind because they're typically far more aggressive than the situation warrants (causing the brain to file it away whereas 'business as usual' tends to go in the garbage folder).
That being said, fuck 'em. What are they gonna do, stop you? A quick complaint to the gym staff about harassment usually nips that in the bud fast, because the gym wants you to keep paying your membership, as they like money, and if El Doucherino is chasing off one customer who bothered to complain, the accompanying assumption (as with any service industry) is that he's chased off four or five others who never bothered filing a complaint, just cancelled their membership or just quit paying the fee and warned their friends off the gym in question.

It's not always like that, in fact you have a higher chance of someone coming to help you with your workout then talking smack. Plus if your a woman then hell yea you are gonna get flooded with guys who wanna "help"

The last one reminds me of my Mom's own bit of petty revenge at annoying neighbours. They told her to plant more flowers in her garden or they would, water it more often or they would, etc. Mom didn't want to let them have any sense of control, so just letting them wasn't an option. She bought a couple flowering plants, but filled the gaps between with fake non-flowering plants. They complimented the garden and didn't notice anything was amiss. Under the cover of night, she "planted" a few fake plants in their garden. Not only did they not notice, they diligently watered their plastic additions along with the rest. Mom retrieved her plastic plants in the fall when things were starting to die, and the neighbours never figured it out.
Boris and Valerie should definitely procreate, for in few years we will get a sweet r/entitledparents story.

Grass is actually one of the worst 'plants' for the environment. It doesn't absorb CO2, it doesn't offer flowers etc. for any beneficial bees/other bugs or pollinators; people put a load of weedkiller on it because (of course) we decided to have LAWNS everywhere instead of anything else. Plus mowing, oil/gas/petrol etc. And the amount of water used, especially in areas prone to summer droughts, to keep the grass green.
It's really perfectly fitting, given what we're doing to the planet.
Honeybees (I assume this won't apply to all areas, so *some) make their first batch of honey from clover - 'clover honey'.
My dad gets frustrated that I make him hold off for a few weeks each year before the grass REALLY needs cut because of the clover.

People deal with depression and anx8 in different ways. Sometimes I withdraw completely, sometimes I waste the whole day on CZcams, because as long as I'm distracted, I don't have to think about how much I hate myself, or how pathetic I am, how much I've let my house fall to shambles and how overwhelmed I am not even knowing where to begin cleaning it. Next time, keep your rude judgmental thoughts to yourself. A comment like yours is all it takes to push someone over the edge. I know it has for me. Hey Carnivore, I know it's not much, but my channel has some cute ducks on it...they've saved be on more than one occasion, that's for sure.
When I was a kid I lived in a neighbourhood with my aunt and uncle living directly behind our house, just a three foot high fence separating our yards. We had a dog, and so did my aunt and uncle. Our dog was too small to jump the fence, but my uncle's lab jumped it constantly and always came into our yard to have bowel movements (she was an incredibly intelligent dog). My dad was extremely annoyed about this because we kids played out there, and it more than doubled the amount of clean up he had to do. He talked to my uncle about it, but my uncle just laughed and thought it was great. Thing about my dad is that he has a short fuse, and he likes to make a point. So he starts dumping ALL the dog waste over the fence behind my uncle's shed. One day, months later my uncle storms over furious and asks my dad why he accused their dog of pooping in our yard when he just stepped in what must have been years worth of dog waste behind his shed. Gis dog couldn't have been using our yard! My uncle never figured it out, and my dad kept dumping all the dirt behind the shed.

I think the dandelions ABSOLUTELY belong in prorevenge because they'll be popping up for the longest time. Not to mention to truly kill them with weed killer you'd be killing many other plants... Your garden and hard would look hideous and not taken care of... And it's a ton of work to get everything back to the way it was, up to a whole year. Gardens are no joke
...And that is why I said fuck it and accepted that the Dandelion Invasion has conquered by yard.
That gym story reminded me of an experience I went through months ago. I'm in a peer support program that gets you out and about, working on goals to better yourself. Well, one of my goals is physical health and I can go to the local YMCA for free because their company pays for their workers to go with a peer for free. I had been going there for a few short months, no more than three, and would work out on the bike or treadmill or go swimming since I had only eight hours a week, spread between two days a week. Well, everything had been going fine for a while, I got a few dirty looks from the regulars but ignored them and just used my iPod to drown out the noises around me. Yes, I'm overweight, but I'm still mobile and am getting better little by little.
Well, to get into the Y you had a door that they had to buzz you in through and to leave there was a rounded turnstile you're supposed to go through. I cannot fit through that turnstile due to my weight and the workers were kind enough to buzz me back out through the door with no issue. But then the one day a woman was at the counter and saw us waiting at the door to be let out. "You have to use the turnstile." I looked at my peer specialist and she answered for me. "She can't fit through the turnstile." (Referring to me). The lady huffed and buzzed us out but I found out on the way out to the parking lot that she had rolled her eyes. I lost my confidence to go back and haven't been back since and my peer specialist anonymously called the Y to complain about what she had witnessed and they said that they would take care of it.
I know I need to start going back to work on myself but...it was that one experience that hit me hard. It hurt in knowing that a worker had acted such a way to someone trying to lose weight. Yes, I know, I'm not a member, I can't afford $380 a year, but still...

I learned from my dad that people in Chicago during the beginning of spring would put their furniture outside on the streets just to save parking spaces for when they came back and that's how everyone in my uncle's neighbourhood would be, with furniture on the streets with a free parking spot and a free furniture of your choice which would mainly be chairs. If you see some I dare you to put them on the grass and park there then wait all day for a person to be pissed about not having a parking space. Ahh, the joys if civilization

The last one kind of reminds me of my old neighbours. We had a Chihuahua and he'd go out in the dog run beside our house (the side where the neighbours lived). Sure he'd bark a little bit... that's what dogs do, but it wasn't much and we always dealt with it quickly. Well... let's just say that they weren't okay with this. They'd attach profanity filled letters to our door, call bylaw on us, and even spray our dog who was very obviously a senior... with a high pressure hose.

About the dog poop story, AFAIK in my country it's illegal to leave dog poop anywhere where someone else could reach it. There have been cares of children and other animals getting really sick because of dog poop and thus if you don't pick up after your dog right away, you can get a fine. I believe this is especially true in the UK but don't quote me on it
I think the second story is more like "AmITheA**hole?", and yes, you are. Threatening to hurt your dog is not ok, but leaving your dogs poop arround for a week and other stuff seems like you have other hygenic problems too.

honestly the one about the spin class is exactly why I'm afraid of going to the gym (or I was, pre-covid). it doesn't help that my mom would always say "we" need to lose weight, "we" need to go to the gym, "we" need to lose weight, all at a time when I was fairly happy with my body. this led to me slowly coming to be disgusted with myself, and it even got to the point that I started tracking my caloric intake almost obsessively, even to the point of nearly having an anxiety attack if I realized I'd went over 500 calories. 500. in a single day. for reference, an 8 to 12 month old baby needs between 750 and 900 calories per day.
and the kicker is that my mom started to complain when I didn't track my calories anymore, and even after I confided in her about my problem, she didn't seem fazed at all. she's a nurse.
