      It seemed so real because it was lmao. They botched the finish and somehow landed at the same time. So Vince had to come out and make them restart the match, tearing both his quads in the process. During the final few seconds, Batista re-attempts the original finish (Batista Bomb out of the ring) but Cena can be heard saying “No no no!! Spinebuster, then throw me out!!!” Which is what then proceeds to happen.

    I know this is all about the final two of the events, but the lead up TO the final two was so good in 2004... Big Show was left against a handful of babyfaces (Cena, Jericho, RVD, Angle) that were all teaming up just to get HIM. He went through and eliminated every single one despite their efforts. So when Benoit was left alone and pulled it off, that made it even better. And the way Show slowly gave out as he was pulled over the top took agonizing long in a great suspenseful way.....Amazing end to one of the best Rumbles.

    Ric Flair's amazing performance in the 1992 Royal Rumble can't be beat for me. And with Heenan's commentary, it was a thrilling nail-biter. I can still remember how happy I was as a 13 year old teenager in 1992 when Flair won it. I was like...he proved without a shadow of a doubt that he was ...the man. The greatest ever. And even Hulk Hogan and all the greats will tell you the same.

    • @daviddalrymple2284
      @daviddalrymple2284 Před 4 měsíci +2

      The match was pure entertainment from start to finish. You had Shawn Michaels getting his first chance to show off his solo persona on a big stage. You had all sorts of 1980s legends (Volkoff, Sheik, Tito, Valentine, etc.) getting one last PPV appearance. You get the memorable halfway mark of Boss Man cleaning house, then getting eliminated by Flair's opportunism. They kept the heat on the Savage/Snake feud.
      And in spite of the memorable set-pieces, it never felt "overbooked" the way a lot of modern Rumbles do. They didn't have a lot of moments where people were just sitting in the corner, watching; there was always something happening. And one more touch I really liked: there were no tag team partners in the match. So you didn't have any of those "Whoops, sorry, partner" moments that had already grown stale by 1992. There would be brief alliances of heels ganging up on the faces, but they would quickly turn on each other; it truly did feel like "every man for himself".

    Stop acting like The Rock was THE ROCK in 1998. He was not ready for some big elimination. Especially in a Royal Rumble that literally EVERY SINGLE PERSON watching knew Austin was going to win since we all knew he was going to win the title at Wrestlemania.

    I think it was a bad idea to try to do the skin-the-cat ending with Rock and Big Show. The Rock is significantly taller than Shawn Michaels, couple that with the fact that Big Show has 500 lbs weighing down the top rope as he goes over, means there's almost no chance Rock could keep his feet off the floor.

    For those who doesn't know about it, Vince McMahon won the 1999 Royal Rumble Match. But I still agree that The Undertaker eliminating Shawn Michaels at 2007 Royal Rumble has gotta be the worst final elimination in any Royal Rumble of ever. HBK Main Evented WrestleMania 23 (2007) against the WWE Champion John Cena. XD 😂

    I ranked the Yokozuna-Savage one dead last and it had nothing to do with Savage attempting the pinfall. I was a kid back then and it still looked like the phoniest thing ever. Savage stood up and jumped over the ropes with a noticeable pause between the two. Even an 8 year old couldn't suspend disbelief enough for that.

    Wow such an interesting fact about cody and gunther, #1 and #30 being the last two. I think the only time this almost happened was in 2006 between Triple H (#1), Mysterio (#2) and Orton (#30) but then HHH got eliminated before Rey.

    In hindsight, the 2018 women's Rumble would have been a lot higher on the list if you swap out Bella for Banks. The biggest issue with an otherwise good climax was that there was no chance in Hell Auska was getting eliminated once they were down to the three they were down to. Also, Sasha getting eliminated after one kick would have made at least a little more sense from an exhausted Ironman (that actually knew how to sell well...).

    Still, to see John throw over the top rope the man who did everything he could to buy the win was pretty cool to a 17-year old kid like me.
    Good job as always, guys. Thank you.

    Also a little bit of trivia ; THQ somewhat remade the 2005's Royal Rumble ending in SVR 2006 season mode by having any other wrestler other than the player control character being DQ'ed from the match by illegally trading numbers before the PPV . What follows down this path is a traditional 6 man over the tope rope battle royal but hey , at least it was somewhat realistic right ?

    Any consideration to doing a ranked list of numbers 1 & 2? Taker/HBK in 2008 has to be up to there, as it happened a year after the face-off in this video. Rey/HHH in 2006, Austin/Vince in 99 obviously....Then you have ones like Scott Steiner & Headshrinker Samu (yikes).

    18:51- I was a big fan of the match that was made from this Rumble (I don’t know if you’re going to mention it after this time stamp, so I will)!!! Now it wasn’t the best match ever nor was I happy with who won! But that Fatal 4 “elimination” match was very much hyped up and fans were going crazy for it! But also that was one of the few times WWF/WWE did a singles match that had more then 2 wrestles in it correctly!!! “ELIMINATION” match!!! Where the best actually has a chance to win! Not these dumb versions where the best could not even be involved in the pin and still somehow lose!?!

    *I massively disagree with Triple H eliminating Dean Ambrose at the 2016 rumble being ranked as high as #5 because honestly, I would rank it WAY lower. I get that Roman Reigns getting added some high stakes and drama to the final showdown of that match, but it would’ve been way better if they went with Ambrose winning, considering the fact that he was the hottest babyface in the company during that time. HHH winning was just stupid and pointless.*
