  • The SP-111, designed by BlindAssassin111 is a sandwich mount, split southpaw keyboard-this is one of the more unique keyboard I've seen around. It's quite rare to find a full-size keyboard in the custom mechanical keyboard hobby, and for good reasons (material & CNC costs, lots of wasted space, etc.) While the SP-111 isn't a traditional full-sized keyboard, it basically has all the keys of one, but more compacted. And the fact that it has a left-handed numpad makes it great workflows that requires both the mouse and numpad.
    Today I'll be building a black SP-111 with Boba U4 Silent Tactile Switches and GMK Metropolis.

    Nice build and review!! The via issue from what I can tell might be on their end which basically means we can't fix it without them doing the work as it isn't open source. 😢 Hopefully we can get this fixed soon though.

      Why hello there! And thank you. Good to know about the issue with VIA, luckily it's not a terrible workaround.

      I had the same issue with Via but I figured it out pretty easily. I flashed the pcb on QMK Toolbox, then I realized if I changed the split backspace to both delete that would do the trick.
      Endgame work keyboard for sure, thanks Assassin

      prototypist.net/ had a GB for CF plates, but I don't think it's available anymore. I have no idea where else to get custom plates, but you could prob do a search for laser cutting services and provide them the plate file. github.com/blindassassin111/SP-111_Plate_Files

    Hey man, i dont know if you will see this but is there any kind of split keyboard where it splits after the 60% so if I want all the function keys and num pad i can attach but if i dont want them then i can take it apart to save space?

    • @jimmynguyen973
      @jimmynguyen973  Před 3 lety +1

      I don't know any 60% keyboards like that, but the closet thing I can think of is us-mountainggshop.com/products/everest-max
      But the easiest way to reach your goal is to get a separate numpad at the expense of having an extra cable on your desk & to your PC. As for function keys, I would depend on layers for those.

      @@parzival6777 It's not gonna be an exact match, but honestly check out the Quefrency & Sinc keyboards by Keebio, I have a Sinc 75 myself and I love that thing & Keebio just added new acrylic cases for both of those kits, P3d store has some really cool cases you can order for both of them too but the Quefency is a split 65% (or 60 can't remember) and the Sinc is a 75% but would highly recommend checking them out as they are really cheap but really good with lots of customization

    Did you have any issues trying to flash your sp-111 in qmk? I have been trying for almost 3 hours and no luck. I keep getting the “Device not present” message when i hit flash in qmk toolbox. I got the hex file from via, have the latest drivers for qmk and still nothing.

      @@jimmynguyen973 was able to finally solve it, i have so many keyboards set up on my pc I couldn’t narrow down all the old drivers for this one so since i never collected it to my laptop, connect it there and was able to flash it in QMK with the VIA file and it worked like a charm. 3+ hours of pure confusion and anger just to do it within like 3-5 minutes on my laptop haha

    DId you have issues with the right shift and right stab? It seems you have them oriented the same direction with the bar facing south. at czcams.com/video/q1k2DjRnZLI/video.html --- Durock V2s seem too big, My Durocks hit each other so i had to swap out a zeal stab just for enter, but still kinda contacts the shift stab. So i get a crooked enter key.

    • @jimmynguyen973
      @jimmynguyen973  Před 3 lety

      Hmm that's interesting, I have no issues with that stab. Could go for the shorter right shift + 1u key layout so you don't have to use the right shift stab.

      @@jimmynguyen973 literally right after seeing your video checked my emails and there was one from TKC stating the extras. I'm hoping they do the captcha when checking out like they did for the islander set so that bots don't buy these things up in a heartbeat & i'm praying there's not a lot of people who care for this layout, probably wishful thinking haha but man I just want one of the blue ones so bad since they really did turn out more of a metallic teal which I actually like better, so fingers cross I can snag it in that or really any other color at this point. Where did you get your plate too by the way? I really like using polycarb or Fr-4 plates for soldered builds for the sound vs brass and aluminum and that poly with the mirrored numpad like that is perfect
