  • Starting with Yamunotri, the first dham of char dhaams in Uttarakhand of India, the temple is dedicated to the Yamuna, the daughter of the Surya, the solar deity in Hinduism.
    Yamunotri temple is considered one of the four sacred shrines in India’s Char Dham pilgrimage and holds great religious and spiritual significance for Hindus. The temple is dedicated to the goddess Yamuna, who is revered as a symbol of purity and is believed to cleanse the souls of those who bathe in her waters.
    The highlight was the holy dip in Surya Kund. Surya Kund is the site of hot water spring at Yamunotri temple, Pilgrims take a holy dip in Surya Kund in steaming hot water, cooled to comfort for bath. It is believed that bath at this holy site showers blessings of God for one’s wellbeing.
    The temperature of Surya Kund’ water approximates 88 degree Celsius. After cooked rice, devotee takes cooked rice and brings to their home as Prasadam and also offered to this rice to deity and distributes it too. This water comes from the hot springs gushing out from the hill cavities near the Yamunotri temple.
