I've had mine since June of last year, I did add a 2TB HD, and have had zero problems with it. I love it.

I'd recommend upgrading your ssd to a 1tb or 2tb to accommodate more games. That's the first thing I did when I bought mine a few months ago.
That's actually what I will be doing in the coming days. (Just ordered a 2tb SSD for it) 😄

I ordered a 2280 adapter and installed a 4tb in mine. It's been amazing. It was only like $50 more than the 2tb.

It's not about it being old, rather as a review in 2024. After many updates to the system. A review from launch of the product and after several months can be totally different in some cases. 😄

Hey! This whole video along with the footage of the Ally was filmed with Sony A7 IV + Tamron 28-75 f2.8,
More importantly for the flickering - I recorded in 60fps with 120 shutter speed, so matching the 120hz display of the Ally. That way You should have flickering. 😄 Hope this helps !

I play MW3 on PS5 and Rog Ally, and it feels way smoother and sharper on the Rog Ally... its a win-win, but I had to make some workarounds for a few days of driver issues. Still my #1 gaming device...
How did you get warzone to work on ally?
There is a part in the loading/beginning that tells you that you need to update, but it never works. You need to ignore when it asks you to update, and then the game will load. I know, sounds strange. Now it seldom asks for that. But I don't play warzone, I play TDM and Hardpoint.
My sd card slot got fried, so i installed a 4tb ssd. I have my entire steam and gamepass library on it. I wanted 8tb originally but it was over $1,000.
Only thing that turned me off was the black borders around the screen

The Ally is Amazing, gaming will never be the same again they really pushed the bar higher, setting it up and using it is pretty straightforward and not as complicated as some people making it sounds.

@SOPHISTICATED_VIBES that's facts! I'm not hating on the other handhelds as I have owned a lot. I notice other companies are struggling to make handheld that can compete with the Ally. Before it was Gpd, Ayaneo, Onexplayer they were competing with each other. Now they are all competing with the asus rog ally.

Future of gaming is handheld. Switch 2, Vita 2 & Xbox handheld coming in future, no more normal consoles likes PS5 & Xbox Series (Sony & Microsoft need to focus on 1 console only likes Nintendo, so handheld is the way). In future all other PC handhelds will be cannibalize by Xbox handheld ❤

Yup, the go is better if You need a bigger screen. For me it's more about something that's easier to take with me for travel 😄

Its not about better they different if u want a more versatile device the legion go is probably best maybe only second to the gpd win mini. But lets say as a handheld gaming system id say the ally is better because of the screen vrr makes it optimal for fps and such

Got mine yesterday and absolutely love it ❤. Good battery, sleep, OLED screen, user interface is polished, amazing to be honest you should go for it!

To be honest I never tried and Mmorpgs on it yet 🤔 but the closest thing to that, that I played is maybe genshin impact? So far it works beautiful on it and no problems with text at all 😄

You must have gotten one of the games that have the "play anywhere" tag.
There are only a few of them to be honest. So for most games you need to buy them separately.
Same thing with playing Xbox game pass games

Good video, the MAIN thing i wish all these handhelds had, is the option of them ALREADY being set up and ready to play, at the time of purchase.
I think for that, Windows would have to have a version specifically for handhelds. It would be perfect to have like a handheld windows OS that You can change to normal windows at any moment !

The only thing that didn't convince me enough to buy this was, it's didn't come in black. Legion go which ticked all the bells and whistles only has 16gb shared ram, so I ended up getting a GPG win 4 black with 32gb, I would get the legion go if they upgraded the ram

Is there any news for the ally2, its been 7 months since ally was introduced, asus being a hw company there should ideally be another one soon, right?
I know what you mean as I have been waiting for this too, but they should technically invest in updates with the handheld and keep it alive as long as possible - just like the steamdeck. There will always be a faster handheld out there, but will it be supported?
The technology isn't there to warrant an Ally 2 at this point. Any new systems at this point would be marginal at best.

What about Xbox game pass ? Only Xbox games /Xbox store games can be used by others, but if it's from Ubisoft or ea. (or if You bought them on these platforms) it's just for a single user. My point still stands

Supposedly new models have some kind of copper shielding. I personally don't use it other than transferring data, and it worked fine but not used it for gaming and never had an SD card stay there at all times 😄
Mine was manufactured in 2023. It's been 3 months of daily use in turbo mode (about 3 hours per day), and i haven't had an issue yet. I also only use the SD for transferring, mostly roms, I dont leave the card in it. I'm not sure if it's still frying the card reader and im lucky or if the issue got fixed.
I Upgraded my ally to 2TB Sdd no sd card work fast no issue. problem solve😝
I ended up getting one a few weeks ago at bestbuy and it’s great no issues with my sd card. You guys need to learn how to slap on some thermal pads.
The SD Card Slot isn't the Issue the Heat is the Issue. As long as you keep your Asus ROG ally Cool! You will be fine. Had mine for a year now, still working. I use a 1 TB Micro SD card for all my porn and I swapped out the 512GB to a 2TB. I always use a mini fan aimed at the back of mine when I use it. It keeps everything nice and cool, even me. 😉👌😁👍

Love my ally but for what it's worth im on my 3rd one. For anyone pondering still (they are updating and fixing issues with bunk units, how well they are doing that is another story) id get one. As i say i do love mine but get warranty and I wouldn't sell your xbox for it. As much as id like it to replace a few things its made me appreciate the things i have in times i need them.
Has the sd card heat issue been fixed?
From what I found, the newer models have some kind of copper shielding around SD card reader 🤔

I feel like this device is an awesome product.,. for gen 1... I personally want to wait for gen 2 and see how they evolve this product.. but yes, its cool and I almost bought one - just feel like waiting now.
This is definitely an amazing device, but if you are limited on buying only 1 device wait for the rog ally revision.
the hibernate is better than sleep
Haven't really tried it yet. Does it work somewhat like the sleep on Nintendo switch?
@SebastianDylag hibernate is like a sleep method, but instead of the data stays on ram it stays on the drive and it doesn't drain the battery like sleep give it a try
I used to use the hibernate on my handheld one x player mini pro 6800u the boot stays the same time not longer not less just log in avrey thing stays as I left it

I recently got one, the joy sticks are terrible for me, I normally use an Xbox pro controller, I;ve only had a few days but for my use its probably overkill as I’m just remote playing Xbox games and playing retro games
Maybe You could try remote playing with a phone attached to an Xbox controller ? 🤔

@@SebastianDylag yeah I was remote playing to my iPad Pro with Xbox controller but it’s kinda clunky when I’m just chilling laying down on couch. Also I want to try running emu duck for retro gaming on rog, I don’t think I can do that on iPad. I got my rog ally extreme for 500 bucks at Best Buy so figure if I don’t like it I can take it back

Indeed I did not like the sticks first but simple FPS Freeks that work on the Xbox controller also work on the Ally and I love it
I have the lower one on the left and the higher one on the right
After 1-2 days of getting used to I also have way better aim in MW3
I am ditching Xbox and ps4 consoles switching to rog because I have a gaming pc I love my pc it do all things I like play games high settings other stuff but I go to my sisters house every weekend I need something is small so I don’t take some space
I use my rog ally with steam big picture and also xbox gamepass and this machine shines only things id change about it is battery life, 2 extra back buttons ,1 gb ssd from the start , and if they really want to make this machine the best of the best a slide keyboard and id never buy a laptop again
But can do 4k gaming 🧐

I don't quite believe it's all going to be handheld, as it will probably never be able to make a handheld PC/console as strong as a dedicated bigger home console/PC.
But that is a question I've had on my mind - how would PS5/ PS Vita 2 work in our current age.
No longer it's big games on console and smaller /indie games on handheld, we can literally play triple a games on handhelds... So will Sony make the same games for both but with just different graphic settings for each ? 🤔
Call of duty is horrible on rog asus ally rn
I've had mixed results with it so far.
On warzone there is some stuttering, but latest updates to the Ally seem to fixed it (especially on FSR 3.0)
But for me the biggest thing is the screen size and controls (I'm used to playing on a 49 inch LG OLED tv, from like 1.5 meters away, and with a custom PS5 controller with 4 back paddles, soooo yeah 😅)
But I think MW3 multiplayer seems fine 🤔 watched others play on YT and seemed very good 😄
MW3 Runs perfect for me on the Z1 Extreme. WZ has some occasional stuttering but still more than playable! I get around 80-90 FPS @1080p with low settings and with the mode set to manual at 30W, GPU set to auto..
UPDATE: i had to update the amd and its fine

Legion Go , The king of Handhelds 🔥 rog ally is to small , sold it the first week .
I think it depends on the usage, for me Legion GO is too big to travel with. Where Ally is just small enough to fit in my camera backpack
