- VEHICLE EXPERIENCE A LEAK OR A BROKEN, EXPLODED CASE DO TO THE PIN BEING THROWN FROM THE DIFFERENTIAL WHILE DRIVING. (pacifica, town and country, chrysler sebring, dodge neon, plymouth voyager, pt cruiser, dodge stratus, etc.
Thanks for posting. I have the A604 out of our 2002 T&C 3.8L AWD rebuilding it. 270K miles and the differential pin looks fine, but will consider the special pin. I added aftermarket pin retainers to the A-413 in our 1996 Plymouth 2.4L years ago during a rebuild. I thought lucky to find them already on our 2002, but sounds like it doesn't fix the issue if the pin jams to the spider gear to booger up the hole.
Better to be safe than sorry but also those pins in the 4th gens like your 2002 has been fixed
Just had my 2nd one fail, last one came apart at 75 mph and made a horrible noise, it was my 2000 with 3.3, now my 1999 with the 2.4 just did same thing. The 99 made a loud planetary wine the put a hole in the rear cover. The 2000 busted case in 3 places, Jamed up right axel into case and could not be removed and locked down the engine by binding the converter. Luckily the engine was not hurt. Last time in the 2000 3.3, cost, 1700 bucks. I'm sure it will be same price again! Love it!
There is something that you can do to help make sure that you can get oil to the spider gears. You will have to grind slots, like you see on the replacement part, into the pin that you have.
The retaining clips work when they are put on before the big pin becomes worn and loose
Would this cause a hum like a wheel bearing hum in the differential? It has 266,000 miles on it now and I bought it with 150,000 miles. It's had this hum since I bought it as far as I can remember. It's been getting louder sometimes. It seems to be working fine since I replaced the control solenoid except that hum.
I love your videos by the way. The teardown series was excellent.
Well, I don't know if it will make a hum sound. But, eventually the pin will come through the transmission case.
@@thisisyourtransmission not good!
Thanks for your post. I have a 2007 Chrysler Voyager crd2,8 with a differential package transaxle Part #04800046AC (?). The side gear end play is too important. The left shaft assembly moves and the differential makes a lot of noise. It is impossible to find a new replacement. Do you know if it is possible, and how, to open the differential case to replace planet pinion thrust washers. Best regards.
@@janwolski2200 what do you need, a differential?
@@thisisyourtransmission Hello, I would like to know if it is possible to open the differential box to try to reduce the play by changing the washers. On both sides of the housing there are notches that probably allow it to be opened. For the moment I have not forced it yet. Best regards
Where do you purchase the replacement pin from? Also, why not use the retaining pin in addition to those bolt in plates?
You're the true 604 master here....thanks!!
Already got a destroyed case on m y Saratoga (early AA platform)
Do you also have experience with not common issues on this trans?
where are you located? does the saratoga have an a604 in it?
Austria (Europe), yes it has, 3.0 Mitsu + 41te, its an european version of the Dodge Spirit / Plymouth Acclaim. But it already has been stored with blown trajs a few years ago...
My current issue is my 99 Grand Caravan 3.3, clean fluid, new solenoid pack (quick learn done), very harsh 4 - 3 downshift....upshift perfectl, y smooth....
Kevman how many miles?
questioning3 84k, purchased it from the US embassy...did a fluid change (ATF +4), after 1000 miles another time including a pan w. drain plug
1-2, 2-3,3-4 are good upshifts?
Ty may I ask for help on trans issues
I have a 1991 Chrysler New Yorker, 3.3 liter, I don’t have this problem, do you have to drop the transmission to do this? Are there signs leading to this?
The only sign is when it blows through the case.
you did not show the pin with the grooves that allow oil to pass through and flush out the metal shavings, to correct this problem.
you are right, I will upload it and show you later. However, I do show it on the a604 video that i did
czcams.com/video/sV-xdcM-Duk/video.html click on the link
click on this link, it should take you too the pin.czcams.com/video/sV-xdcM-Duk/video.htmlm24s
Great! thanks for providing the link, and thanks for making these videos.
Do you buy the pin from the dealer?
What is the part number?
Thank you for the videos, but... 8-D you still have not mentioned where to get the pin, LoL!! I have checked your videos and others but nothing. I'm thinking about making my own. any opinions or where to get that pin?
I don't have any that is this exact design. However, superior trans parts have one that suppose to work. It is on eBay. Type in a604 duff pin.
ANOTHER QUESTION ARE THE 1998 41TE PUMP AND TORQUE CONVERTER THE SAME AS THE 2001 41TE
The pump is the same. However I cannot say the torque converter is the same because of the possibility that the bolt holes might be different.
The automatic transmission in my Chrysler le Baron, an A604 to, gifs a soft rattling sound when changing gears in a low rpm. Any idea what it can be? Greatings from Holland
With this type of problem, I can only tell you what it could be, and it could be many things. It could be a bad bearing in the transmission, a bad torque converter, or it may not be anything in the transmission at all. It could be a bad mount rubbing on the frame. This has to be put on jacks and ran through the gears to see if the problem can be duplicated.
can the diff cover be removed on a 41TE in a 2001 3.8 grand caravan
Yes
your going to think im a dumb ass but that's with trans still in van@@thisisyourtransmission
thanks i have changed out a few of these transmissions but never that cover with the trans still in van thanks again@@thisisyourtransmission
Will changing the ATF + 4 more often than schedule keep this from happening?
I don't believe changing the fluid will solve this problem
I just purchased a low mileage 93 LeBaron sedan, has the 31th / A670 trans...
Do you know if it uses the same differential or pin? I'd like to upgrade the diff before that happens...
Greetings
Kevin
I don't know. You would have to take it out and measure it against the a604 version, I don't have one at the shop.
@@thisisyourtransmission Ok, thank you anyway!
If the overdrive clutch in the torque converter is going bad will that give you harsh downshifts while in D? Vehicle is a 2001 T&C. With D selected the car shifts normally but when I slow down it downshifts hard. If I select 3 instead of D the downshifts are smoother but of course there is no overdrive.
MostlymoparIH what gear?
There are two harsh shifts.
But I don't know if that's coming out of overdrive and then coming out of third or if it's 3rd to 2nd and then 2nd to first.
Almost feels like it's low on fluid but I checked and it was okay.
The filter and fluid were changed recently and the fluid looks good no burning smell.
I was thinking of buying an OBD2 reader that reads transmission codes but was not sure of which one to buy. I've been looking for a used one as I have not worked for over a month. Thanks in advance for you help.
MostlymoparIH it it a downshift bump?
Yes as you slow down it goes hard into the next lower gear.
There is no overdrive into the torque converter , it's a lock-up clutch that 's firmly connect the engine to the input shaft in order to improve fuel consuption , reduce trans oil température , the OD is provide by the applications of the 2/4 cluch and the OD clutch , you must check if the transmission control module is up to date with the latest version of program an then execute the quicklearn procedure with a scan tool
Have you seen this issue in the 62te transmission as well?
I have not seen this yet in the 62te, however, I have heard other rebuilders have.
Are these high mileage units? I had read the tabs/brackets were the ultimate fix for this and haven’t found a single report of the 62te throwing a pin. It also has the tabs. I recently bought a 2019 Caravan with 28,000 miles on it and shortly after getting it had to spin the wheels to get up an icy incline. The first few attempts I didn’t make it and was sitting spinning in place at high speed for a second or 2 before letting off the gas. After this I read about spinning wheels causing the pin to fail. So now I’m wondering if I’m driving a ticking time bomb.
@@danielloerzel5917 There are a lot of transmissions that don't have this issue. The lack of lubrication seems to be at fault. I only see this on this transmission after 100,000 miles. I have seen the tabs not work on this.
WHERE CAN I BUY SOME OF THOSE CLIPS
They are sold on ebay
