    I overhauled my 41TE 1997 DGC, (with 270K km, I'm the 2nd maybe 3rd owner, and my first car in Canada and no budget for shop overhaul). It has downshift bump when bought it and after a year of careful use and maintenance (tranny & engine change oil), it went to "limp mode". It will not shift to 2nd or 3rd but has the reverse. The code (I can't remember the #) says "internal mechanical issue". I replaced all plates, clutches, rings, 2 speed sensors, UD clutch, checked/cleaned/flushed the solenoid body, torque converter, pump, new ATF+4 but re-use the old solenoid pack. Before that I tested this SP and the ohms are good within specs. The reason is I can still replace it later if the downshift bumps persist. After the overhaul, all codes were gone but the bump is still there, just like the tranny was before the limp-mode. After running some +300km., I replaced the SP with new Wagner. The van works well smoothly during road test but reverts to its old bumps today just after some 50 km. What else should I need to check/do to remove the bumps, there's no code. I know that if I these bumps continue, it will to totally erase the spline of the sun and planetary gear assembly. I found out this was the reason why the tranny went on "limp-mode", because the assembly was no more mechanically connected and not driving the shaft due to total loss of spline. I replaced this assembly in the overhaul and did the air clutches test with good results. I have not yet tried the re-learn by scanner. Please help. I love this van. Thank you for reading and advise.

      A very innovative design for the 1980's, which others copied. Rather than bands, they ground the drums via clutch plates to the case. A way to squeeze 4 gears in. Somehow, designers managed to get 9 gears today in a reasonable length case.

    After some research I thought of a better way to describe whats going on with the 2007 pt cruiser , it's a downshift after I have stopped , I also feel it more on abupt stops ! My wife does almost all the driving so this is what I'm feeling as a passenger. I'm also still trying to find a bidirectional scanner focused on Chrysler. This PT cruiser was my wifes choice not mine, I suggested getting a
    Toyota ! I still drive my 1995 Chevy work truck that we have chatted about before.

      Check the TP sensor to make sure it's showing closed throttle when you are stopping when this happens. I saw that on a Jeep Grand Cherokee that was doing The same thing. Also, try removing both battery cables and touching them together to clear any trash data out of the ECM.

      @@McCuistian I think the bluedriver will display the TP. This has been going on for awhile. We bought this car 4/15/22 with 36,000 miles on it. When I got it home being it was 15 years old I replaced all belts(including timing belt) all timing componants,water pump,hoses,radiator,radiator fan assembly,engine mounts and took it for a test drive after i was done and felt that downshift then.

      @@guyaldrich5878 whatever you firstkey it on it reads the base throttle position voltage... flags that as closed throttle. Whenever it is calculating its transmission downshifts it looks at that throttle position voltage to make sure it has gone back to close throttle. Is hanging just above closed throttle it doesn't even know you have completely let off the gas and it will screw up that downshift. That's what was going on with the Jeep that I mentioned earlier

      Owner's forums say the biggest reason for failures is that shops refill them with cheaper Dexron fluid. That causes torque converter chatter. Shops still do that, saying they added a bottle of friction modifier. Don't allow that in your vehicle. Only use ATF+4. There is no "universal ATF". Those jugs disclaims "where OE was Dexron or Mercon fluid". There were a few early glitches, but all fixed by ~1988 design. When rebuilding an earlier ones, do the upgrades in the shop manual, which is mostly differing internal gaskets with drain holes and such.

    Whats it mean when the transmission shifts sort of hard and also slips a tiny bit on a somewhat rare occasion? Do I need to change the fluid or is it too full? I know you aren't supposed to put additives but I remember adding some stop slip. I have a dodge neon with a PT cruiser transmission (41Te or 40Te I can't remember).
    I spent so much time on rebuilding the motor and also I swapped two transmissions because the flexplate wouldn't bolt up the first time. Any idea on the slippage and hard shifting would be appreciated. And btw it has a majority of AT+4 in it. Should I be able to use a syringe to remove the old fluid or will I have to drop the pan? Thanks.

      @guyaldrich5878 Před rokem

      @@McCuistian I am not sure what packing is ,but I'm guessing that your asking am I adding more gas after the pump quits on it's own. My wife said she stops putting in gas when it quits. Could you please explain your theory on this ? This lurching feels like your being bumped from behind , you turn around and look and no one is there. I have another 41te transmission sitting in a 2009 PT which was wrecked with only 36,000 on it so I can swap parts if needed. To be honest I have not watched your video on that transmission yet but I am going to. So should I just replace the evap cannister and see if the problem goes away or is there a way to test it ?

    • @McCuistian
      @McCuistian  Před rokem

      @@guyaldrich5878 Well, what happens is that, because the EVAP will begin to purge without warning, it can be idling normally and when the purge starts, fuel from a saturated canister will suddenly enter the intake manifold and almost stall the engine, but then the idle speed will suddenly correct and cause the vehicle to surge ahead. I've had people say it almost caused them to crash into the car in front of them. You may have a problem with the transmission, but I usually like to eliminate other possibilities before I jump to that. Are there any codes stored?
