Great series of videos. Thanks! This really helped me rebuild the trans on my Grand Caravan.
i know im asking randomly but does anybody know of a way to log back into an Instagram account?
I stupidly lost the account password. I would appreciate any tips you can offer me.
@Grey Malachi Thanks for your reply. I got to the site thru google and Im trying it out now.
Takes a while so I will reply here later with my results.
@Grey Malachi It did the trick and I finally got access to my account again. I am so happy:D
Thanks so much you really help me out !
I swear to God. If you hadn't played that music, I would have pulled my hair out! Very nice, very calming. Great help. Thank you sir.
no, I don't know what a meme is. I have to look up the definition.
Oh, I don't know what the picture is. I just like nature so I picked it.
It's a little before my time. But it's amazing how close it is to the 62te. With the exception of a componder it pretty much the same.
thanks ....dose a strand rebuilt kit comes w pretty much that normal wears out i was going to get rebuild kit and a torkcovter as well ?
idk what to do man this sucks hopefully person gets it doesn't see it messing up so I can get rid of it . other than the transmission sometimes messing up like that the van is really good I put alot stuff into it . New tires .New cv axels. New tune up which is plugs, wires, cap, rotor, air filter, and new radiator , New thermostat , New oil preussure switch , New motor mounts , intake gaskets , throttle body gasket , and new master cylinder , and some other stuff like I saying wish transmission wasn't messing up I wouldn't sell it but I can't pay that and too I need money for my car I'm doing but I really do appreciate your help
Thanks for the this great step by step video (s). I'm now on the process to rebuild my 2008 Caravan 4 speed transmission. It started to make noise when shifting from 1-2 and 3-4, but had worked fine for some months, one day strange noise happened and now no reverse (small hit but goes to nothing in 2 seconds) and no Drive. i will start replacing the valve body and oil, but pretty sure, it requires full repair. Any comment, very welcomed.
remove the transmission pan and check for any metal in the pan first.
@@thisisyourtransmission Thanks, Yes, i did it and was a lot of smashed metal in the magnet and small pieces as what could be part of needle roller bearing (small cylinders 0.8 cm long and 2 mm diameter). What other part could be damaged? I'm working on removing the transmission out of the mini van. Having problem to disconnect the arms.
@@thisisyourtransmission Update, After having removed the transmission (not easy job since it requires to turn the transmission up) and get it completely disassembled, i had found what was the issue originator: The bearing that goes in the planetary brock down and all small rollers went inside of the planetary making a total catastrophe on them. 2nd hand planetary on the way, complete rebuild set from Mopar and just questioning my self if i shall swap the torque convertor or not, the rest of transmission was in very good condition.
@@albertoperezc6662 how many miles is on the vehicle? If there was a lot of metal made, than you should get a rebuilt torque converter and install an aftermarket stand alone cooler.
And how much would u about cost fix it . And when sometimes when u put it in reverse it kinda like shakes maybe or something like that it's like if the engine is trying to die and when u push on gas it gets worse but like i said it runs good and very good vehicle except for 2nd gear sticking not wanting to downshift
Book said to remove #1 thrust bearing, before removing clutch assembly. I don't see it on my trans. I didn't see you remove it either? I can't remove the clutch assembly. it pulls up a couple inches, that's it. what am I missing. never mind got it out, although I still haven't seen the bearing. it's not stuck on the shaft.
If the pan and magnet isn't full of metal....can I just replace the front pump?
did.you about transmisión 1998 Dodge grand caravan transmisión dont shift
I have a 2001 3.3 caravan and 09 3.3. The 09 won't move. The 2 transmission look identical except the number of wires o. On plug. Will the 01 work in the 09
I overhauled my 41TE 1997 DGC, (with 270K km, I'm the 2nd maybe 3rd owner, and my first car in Canada and no budget for shop overhaul). It has downshift bump when bought it and after a year of careful use and maintenance (tranny & engine change oil), it went to "limp mode". It will not shift to 2nd or 3rd but has the reverse. The code (I can't remember the #) says "internal mechanical issue". I replaced all plates, clutches, rings, 2 speed sensors, UD clutch, checked/cleaned/flushed the solenoid body, torque converter, pump, new ATF+4 but re-use the old solenoid pack. Before that I tested this SP and the ohms are good within specs. The reason is I can still replace it later if the downshift bumps persist. After the overhaul, all codes were gone but the bump is still there, just like the tranny was before the limp-mode. After running some +300km., I replaced the SP with new Wagner. The van works well smoothly during road test but reverts to its old bumps today just after some 50 km. What else should I need to check/do to remove the bumps, there's no code. I know that if I these bumps continue, it will to totally erase the spline of the sun and planetary gear assembly. I found out this was the reason why the tranny went on "limp-mode", because the assembly was no more mechanically connected and not driving the shaft due to total loss of spline. I replaced this assembly in the overhaul and did the air clutches test with good results. I have not yet tried the re-learn by scanner. Please help. I love this van. Thank you for reading and advise.
Did you replace the gasket and piston retainer that is at the bottom of the case. It has three small screws holding it.
Is it possible to operate this transmission manually by hacking into the computer or directly by controlling the solenoid box?
I mean do you know how it works?
I put a carburetor on my 1992 voyager, removing the electronic injection but it stays stuck in third gear
I have a question on the 62TE; My 2008 T&C has 225K miles showing on the odometer. There are no trouble codes. The transaxle shifts through the gears and operates normally except, it shifts to 3rd gear very hard at times as I accelerate from a stop. I am wondering if the spring in the 3rd gear clutch accumulator could be broken and allowing the accumulator not to cushion the incoming pressure, thereby applying the clutch more firmly. I am a 50+year Chrysler Tech and am an expert on the 904/727 style Torqueflite transmissions. I have also done many of the 3 speed FWD transaxles, but retired from working at the dealership before the 41TE and later 62TE were developed. I had my own shop for for 23 years after that but did not touch the "Ultradrive" 604 transaxle, for good reason. I am aware of their early problems but I feel that there is nothing majorly wrong here as I have driven this vehicle over 3.000 miles since purchasing it in September '18. I appreciated watching and listening to the teardown of the 62TE video.

I have not had this problem with the 62te transmission yet. However, I will give you this information. There is a part in this transmission called a compounder. It has two sealing rings on it. The sealing rings wear the lands down, some have seen the lands worn so thin as to not allow complete sealing. This can happen at 80,000 miles and up. Well you have over 200,000 miles, so I would probably start there since it is a known problem in the industry. The transmission has to be taken out and disassembled for this though.
Do you know the differences between the 2002 and 2003 Caravan 3.3L transmission?
If it's not profound, I found a 2003 which I would like to install, while my current one is being rebuilt.
Thanks.
I am replacing front seal on the transmission of a 99 Dodge Dakota PU. Other than unhooking stuff to allow the transmission to drop to gain access to the seal, is there anything of real difficulty that I am missing? 1. Unhook anything that constrains the housing from dropping 2. Lower Transmission 3. Replace seal 4. Put everything back??? Basically, a lot of tedious steps, but nothing complex?
complexity is a lot of simple things chained together. If you think that you will run into problems, take pictures so that you can remember where things go. Also, at the shop, we never change the front pump seal without also changing the front pump bushing. If the front pump bushing is bad, a front pump seal will not hold the fluid. You will have to take the front pump out to change the bushing.
I have a 2000 Dodge Grand Caravan with under 130,000 miles to it. I had taken it to my family mechanic who told me the transmission was going. I can't really afford to buy a new one. But it likes to sometimes on start up stall on moving forward or reverse and it makes a continuous squealing noise. I'm thinking of working with my family mechanic to repair it but I'm not sure What would need to be replaced since he doesn't exactly work on transmissions. I like to help out as much as I can with him so I can learn and be prepared to solve the problem on my own if I can help it.
first, remove the transmission pan and see if there is any metal in it.
It's always a good idea to drain the oil, change the filter, and fill and flush out these transmissions through the oil cooler return line until the oil comes clean (takes about 13 qts). Always use Dodge 7176 4+ Oil if you want long life from this transmission. Then add a quart of Lubegard from the red bottle to top it off. With the oil changes and two input sensors through the years we put 100K on the tranny since it acted up. The engine and tranny are still strong at 280K (the shock tower and other things quit)
stalling when put in gear would likely be an engine idle issue or torque converter issue
check all airflow sensors, clean the throttle body, check the air filter, flush transmission fluid and fill with ONLY genuine mopar atf+4
if the problem persists after that, take it to 2 or 3 mechanics to see if there is any general consensus
Damn that much I can get a new one or remanufactured something like that can't remember which one but um for about $1,000 and something dollars at AutoZone but I'm guess I'll just sell it cause I don't have it to fix it I work on cars but not really on transmissions as I am for engines but I'm currently working on my Chevrolet celebrity so can't fix the van hopefully I can get at lest $900 out of it maybe has to be at lest that I've done alot to the van thanks tho really appreciate your help for helping me out letting me know someone thangs really helps me thanks
How much does the transmission in the video differ from a transmission out of a 2012 dodge avenger? I believe it is a 40tes from my research. 2.4L motor, fwd car.
If it is a 40tes, the engineers just added a pressure transducer. Therefore, it has an extra plug. The internals are basically the same.
Shopping for a lightly used Dodge GC right now....how do i know if the transmission has the low drum updated part? I've been told it was around 2016 but I cannot find a single document to show which year or serial number series the change was implemented. I found 2 records of the updated drum part online dated back in 2015, but that might just be when they started shipping....can anyone shed some light on when exactly the updated part went into production vans on the assembly line?
I have seen some with the low drum update when I had to take fix them however I am not completely sure what year. 2016 and up would probably be a safe number as you have mentioned.
What an awesome video series. Is the 40te essentially the same tranny as the one shown other than the quantity of the steel/ clutch packs? Do you know what the differences are between the two (40te vs 41te)? Thanks in advance.
nice video, is the 6 speed transmisions similar? i have an opportunity to get one for scrap thats fully loaded a 2017 but the trans has lost reverse, current owner has done 0 maintenance to fix it.
Parts are similar, however there is the added parts that are not.
I have a 87 Plymouth voyager 3.0 and having transmission problems for some reason it doesn't wanna down shift sometimes and mostly does it after warm up but idk cause sometimes it does fine like it's supposed to do then sometimes doesn't wanna down shift but I don't know what to do figure out why it's doing this and getting worse please help if u can
Do I need pliers for outer AND inner snap ring?
Actually I have (or find) only pliers for outer snap ring.
OK, there are no small snap rings in the complete transmission.
I have to disassemble the transmission for repair. Planetary gear is probably destroyed.
hi guys you can help me with the transmission dodge caravan 98 2.5
star sleeping
It's the same on the video?
you have to get the vin number of your vehicle and call the dealer. If it is a 4 speed it is the same as in this video. If it is a 3 speed, then it is different.
Si arreglo la Transmicion tengo q cambiar sensor dr arranque o que otra cosa tendría que cambiar

Here in Mexico there are no spare parts for my 1992 voyager, my truck is from Pennsylvania. She has been brought to Mexico years ago and I can't get injection spare parts, therefore I had to disconnect the injection and put a Ford V8 carburetor. the engine works fine but since it is disconnected, the injection gives engine failure and it stays in third gear, is there any way to make it change the gears manually?
I sure anything can be done to a vehicle since you put a carburetor on it. There is a way to shift that transmission manually, however we use to use a shifter tool that would fit in the solenoid pack. It had buttons for turning that would test the shift operation of the transmission. You would have to figure out how to shift each solenoid at the proper time, or make something up to shift the solenoids. It can be done, on this transmission, however, it takes time.
@@thisisyourtransmission I was thinking of using Arduino, first to "record" the action in the solenoids capturing its signal in the cables and in the speedometer and tachometer and then make a sketch in Arduino that would imitate it to be able to change it at will, so the solenoids have a Oscillatory pulse to control the pressure of the transmission fluid, I would like to know if someone has done it or it has occurred to him, the mechanics in Mexico have no experience in "inventing" they only tighten screws, but in my Argentine country we do all kinds of engineering in this sense, since we are more curious
Hi Top job I need to put in some new driveshaft seals on a 2007 Chrysler 4 speed i'm in the uk I would appreciate help with some part numbers thank you. Jeff
can u install a sonnax sure cure in this transmission?
+perverso12345 I believe sonnax does make a kit for this transmission.
it has 172 thousand miles on it and it doesn't whine anymore that did that beforeI changed the fluid and filter back in August everything is good but it doesn't wanna down shift sometimes and mostly does it after warm up when cold does good but now it's starting to kinda get worse I need help cause idk why it's doing this and 2 gear is only gear that doesn't wanna down shift and it's only a 3 speed automatic
+Christian Leatherman Well, if you can to my shop, I would not play with this transmission because of the high mileage. However, since I now know that you have a 3 speed transmission, there is a good chance that your governor inside the transmission is sticking. The governor is known for being a problem in this transmission.
How do I get the tool required to do this transmittion
I found some on eBay. Just do a search for a604 tool, they come up periodically when a diy buys them for one rebuild then resell.
where did u get the holding fixture ?
+perverso12345 my boss had this fixture for sometime. Someone use to make them but long time ago.
How do you find the numbers of the trans, where are they at?
names are assigned to transmission by manufacturers. Call the dealer with the vin# and they will give you the name. Also will various aftermarket sources will give you names. This is something that you kind of learn when working in the field.
Tienes algo como desarmar el turbo..caravan 1995..thank you
hi, Can you help me out? I have a 96 dodge caravan sport. after starting and putting into "D" it drives fine until it tries to shift to 2nd gear, it goes into something that feels like neutral. I stop the van and none of the gears work. I restart the engine and do it again and it drives fine, until it tries to shift again. is it the transmission? I had a car with a bad transmission and it slipped a lot until it finally gave up, unlike my van which is on its 2nd transmission 10 years ago with 113k miles . I probably only put 50 k mile on this second transmission. It feels like its electrical since restarting it puts it back in drive at least for first gear. Any info would help. thanks.
Is it a 4 speed or a 3 speed transmission? When you stop the van, does it move at all in forward or reverse? Does it have a check engine light on? Answer all questions.
upon starting it moves forward, but slips into neutral. reverse and low gears do not move it. I restart it then it drives again until it slips back into neutral. codes are 36 - fault immediately after shift, 52- gear ratio in second and 74 calculated oil temp in use.
I have it at a shop, I will have to test it if it moves in reverse right after starting. No check engine light.
There is a part in that transmission that snaps completely off. When it happens, you will have no reverse. This transmission will have to come out probably because even in failsafe mode you should have reverse. I just cannot remember which part inside. Let me know which part was damaged after it is apart.
thanks. will do if i have it done, do you think its worth spending to fix transmission? being a 1996?
If the shock towers are not rusted out, then you will probably be ok. Are you taking the transmission out of the vehicle yourself?
Hi top video can you tell me what transmission is in a Chrysler grand vorager 2007 model thanks. Jeff in uk
A 2007 I believe will have a a604 transmission. However, it will have an added pressure transducer built in. 41te=a604. 42te is the newer version, which should be in the 2007.
would I be right in thinking that your A604 rebuild should be much the same as mine to do thank you. Jeff@@thisisyourtransmission
Does anybody know if this will work for a 2010 3.8 L is this video good for that transmission
if you have a 4 speed transmission then yes, if you have a 6 speed transmission then no. You have to see which transmission the van has in it.
You would have the 62TE 6 speed transaxle. What is your problem Henry?
I wAnT to see the part 2 please
Fantastic video series. I do have a question, since I am still running my original 41TE in my 2006 Town and Country that has 100K, I wanted to do this as a project while not being pressed for time.
I decided to find a rebuildable core and have located one relatively cheap. My question is, what are the differences between the 41TE with traction control which I have and the 41TE without Trac Control? Is it just software and ABS, or valve body differences or some other variations and if there are differences can those various parts be swapped from one to the other.
BTW, I tore apart a TH-200 back in the 80's and was so overwhelmed I ended up dumping the whole project. I am now convinced I can do the rebuild with your videos.
Thanks again
The transmission is the same. Traction control has nothing to do with it.
questioning3 , thanks. I figured it was just software, ABS and wheel sensors.
@@thisisyourtransmission and here I am 5 years later with 147k miles and still haven't done the rebuild.
Projects..projects...projects, the list never ends
Awesome video, but the music.
oh and by the way to i did change the transmission fluid filter and everything and it's full to the line but just idk why it's not wanting to down shift from 2 gear and reason I changed fluid was the transmission was making a whining noise and the filter was or must have been really dirty or clogged
+Christian Leatherman If the transmission is making a whining noise, it is possible that a planetary gear is stripped out which would mean that the transmission has to come apart.
My friend, where is the defect in this transmission.. why is it so notorious.. where is the common problem.. where is the manufacturing defect of Chrysler in this transmission.. and how to treat it and fix it or avoid it
Friend this transmission is that of CARAVAN 97, 3.0 ,,, 6 cylinders?
It can be, if your vehicle has a A604 transmission, which is a 4 speed
Hi, I have watched your videos many times and did a recent rebuild on a 2007 grand caravan sxt. After the rebuild it does not movie in any other gears. Do you know what could cause this?
charles howard with the vehicle shut off, take out the dip stick tube. Wipe it off, then stick it back in and measure the level of the fluid on the stick. Then, start the vehicle up, then measure the level on the stick. If the level is the same (the fluid did not drop down) then you might have broken the pump on install.
Okay so it did move on the dip stick after checking it. I don't have reverse and it kills it's self when in drive.
2 years on that rebuild and the fluid is that black, replace the radiator this time, or add a monster air to air cooler!!!!
Awesome music, but the video.
Okay that doesn't sound good so I'm guessing have to take it apart in order to fix this problem and oh one more thang if I take the shifter and put it in 1st and then put it back to drive and go it does good but if it sticks like in 2 gear and I take off to go u can fill it bog down then u can feel it let go or something like that or down shift I guess but right now it's parked not driving it much at all cause that problem and where about are u location
Well that's far away from me dang . But idk what to do so I'm guessing tho have to take the transmission out to Fix my issue I have with it . and would u know how much it maybe close to cost fix it
+Christian Leatherman Some shops may charge $1400 and some may charge $2000. It depends where you go. You may find the transmission online for less money if you put it in yourself.
And today the transmission finally just went on me so mad I lost 2nd and 3rd but I still have 1st and reverse and park I was going down road and it would not go to 3rd and so I pulled over then started again it did fine after that then when I stopped again it did not down shift 2nd gear and when took off I had nothing but first so I went very slow took it home it's definitely parked now but anyway thought I tell u that and what happened. maybe just junk yard get one cheap who knows
100k is low miles for a rebuild.
Shoot I should have watched this before I dropped a wad of cash on a transmission I could have figured out a rebuild
l ready changes control move lo solunicd
+Norma Cruz Ok, what did you change? Was it the solenoid pack that you changed or the transmission control module?
sorry for late response. I can give you a guess but it is just guess. If you changed the solenoid, then someone need to hook up a scanner and see if the speed sensors are communicating to the computer. The next step is to check the computer to see if it is bad.
