The 2 best delegates for me here are Italy and Curacao, and they truly deserve the crown. It would have been more exciting seeing them battling it out in the top 3. Either of them would have been the most beautiful black miss universe ever. Denny is sooooo fierce! and Verna is soooo pretty!

The problem with Miss Venezuela was that she never thought she would get that far being that Miss Venezuela Alicia Machado was the current Miss Universe, so she was a bit too shy and perhaps lame, but she was beautiful indeed. I do not think Brook was ugly, but certainly not the most beautiful. She joined the MU winners that while not being the most beautiful they won the judges over with their personality & poise, such as Chile 87, Namibia 92, Botswana 99, Japan 2007, Venezuela 2008 & 2009.

Yeah, it was a very close race. At least Miss Philippines won Miss Photogenic. Curacao, Italy, and Panama were my top three but they were all cut from the top 3! :(

Miss Philippines Abbygale Williamson Arenas missed the cut by a measly point to India's Nafisa Joseph. It would have been very exciting seeing her in the top 10.
margot was absolutly stunning here, a better final answer and it would of been hers but we took it the next year and believe me we'll take it again soon.

Curacao should have won. But like Carolina Iszak in 1992, she got screwed up by the judges question and placed 4th, so she got cut of of the final 3.
those replaced were:
3rd - 94: Greece.. 97: Pto Rico
4th - 94: Switzerland 97: T&T
8th - 94: Slovak rep 97: Curacao
9th - 94: Philippines 97: Panama
10th - 94: Colombia 97: Estonia
I also noticed a continental swap... folowwing also the same order and logic
3 Europeans (GREECE, SWITZ, SLOVAK) in 94, replaced with 3 Carribeans (T&T, PR, Curacao)
Lone Asian (PHILIPPINES) replaced with lone Central American (PANAMA)
and a South American (COLOMBIA) with a European (ESTONIA)

fijate que no era la mejor pero si la mas inteligente, MU se vio afectado ese año porque Alicia Machado subió de peso y la organizacion MU cambio de dueño, optaron por miss USA para demostrarle al mundo que en el MU la inteligencia cuenta mas que la belleza y, por ende, pulir los contratos de las misses que ahora firman una clausula donde no subiran de peso.

Sorry, but Miss Curacao should have won that day, cause she won: the best body/swimsuit, she had the best scores in night dress. She had the best scores in almost everything. I think she was to nervous in the interviews....

I saw a source that Nafisa committed suicide in 1998 when she and her ex-fiance fought and broke up.
noone considers it an insult, we are mulatos not black therefore we like to be called what we are, either latinos, mulatos or just dominicans, i doubt shes pure black or african, 73% of ppl in my country are mixed, or mulatos, 11% black and 16% white or european and aquerius23 why are u being so sarcastic and mean spirited, we are simply explaining what dominicans are, just that dominican, we have too many different races mixed to be called black or white but the term that fits is mulato.
Like my African instructor told me during an African history class: "Black is not popular"
