    In the example with the nails in the test tubes, what keeps the nail from rusting in the first one with just water? Water is partially made up of oxygen, so what prevents the oxygen part of water (H2O) from creating rust?

    can someone explain why the iron won’t rust even though is exposed to air when zinc is in contact with it? since is exposed to air, won’t part of the iron that is not coated with zinc rust?

    • @blibblab222
      @blibblab222 Před 9 měsíci +2

      basically, the oxygen wants to react with the most reactive thing that it can. in this situation, it has two choices which is the iron and the zinc. since the zinc is more reactive, the oxygen ignores the iron and is attracted to the zinc. hopefully that cleared it up a bit
