  • Who says you can't have curved facia on a shelf layout? These are some techniques I use to establish a "French Curve" into an HO Scale Shelf Layout Facia. I also give a quick tip and share a story about Master Carpenters in the Film Industry.

Boomer you are one of the masters, you are taking a life time of deadication and hard work and sharing it all with us. I personally cannot thank you enough for your generosity and effort to make these videos and sharing what youve learnt.
Your sentiments resonate deeply with me about the film industry. I spent the first half, 15 years, of my career in 3D animation and special effects. Anyone who hasn't worked in the industry might not understand the time, dedication and personal sacrifices that goes into it as a professional, learning from the masters inside the industry is a true life long gift.
Like you I happily try to make a difference now with the knowledge gifted to me from the industry and apply the same skills to train the next generation on pipeline, framework and software design inside a very different industry.
When you talk about being trained in carpentry by a mathematician its true across the board. The industry talent still amazes me to this day, and i haven't experienced anything like it since leaving. I had a rocket scientist train me in programming in 3D. Amazing stuff, where else can you learn from creative geniuses.
At the heart of it all is the freedom to be a true creative master in each discipline, which you truly are. To me that defines a master which is exactly how i view your videos, knowledge and how you teach us. Everything you teach us here is priceless industry knowledge.
You are a wonderful teacher and a master in your own right.
    Thank you.

Thank you for your eloquent and gracious accolades. I really appreciate it when someone really understands my vision and philosophy concerning the arts in any subject matter.
The model railroad just happens to be the canvas in which I love to express myself. Even when I was in my film profession, as awesome as it was, I still longed to model like this when I got home after a hard days work. Movie models, sets, etc. were fun but they were also different.
Now I feel truly blessed to have the time, skills, and health to practice it and share what I know to the broader community. I would have given my eye-teeth for videos on this craft back in the day. Now I like to pay some back so the younger generation can enjoy it as well.
Anyone can learn to model and create their own little world if they put their mind to it. Furthermore, the personal rewards are indescribable.
      Cheers and God Bless
      Boomer.

@@boomerdioramait's the least I can do, say thank you for providing us the platform to learn from and helping us create our own little worlds where we can all be creative in our own way.
That's why you are the master, a full day's work was never enough there was still too much to do, amazing work ethic and personal drive behind it all.
Your master classes have provided me with a huge amount of confidence to make purchases I would normally hesitate at.
Over the past 6 months I've purchased a huge amount of paints, solvents, plastic, grasses, etc etc even the onmi 5000, I don't think Makita make the compressor you mentioned any more or I would have got that too lol all in preparation for when I do actually lay my first piece of track.
You have given me the mental freedom and confidence to not rush into a layout and start simply by building up everything for when I will need it over the time my layout takes to create. I'm not one to buy rubbish products either as I would rather buy the right thing the first time and it last a lifetime.
By not rushing into building the layout and watching your videos time and time again, it has given me time to learn and not rush into something and regret it. I have been able to revise and revise and then revise again my layout design saving me a huge amount of time, heartache and money in the long run.
The freedom your knowledge has provided me has set me on a path to still be loving and working on the same layout I've designed in 15 years from now.
I seriously cannot thank you enough for the education and information you are providing us all in your channel and giving us the ability and inspiration to at least have a go and try to do half the job you do.
Many thanks and yes I do feel blessed to have found your master classes.
      Cheers Cam

Looks like you had a good teacher, I liked all the cliche's too. At one time I was told the same thing and now I'm the one saying it. Way back in the late 80's I attended a three day workshop with Master Finisher and cabinet maker, George Frank. He was a little French guy the Germans captured and had build fake antiques for them but he was wise and stashed all the real antiques in a warehouse until after the war. I'd have to say he was a very big influence on how I do furniture to this day. Very interesting workshop. Now I'm bragging by telling you I restored a 1957 Chris Craft cruiser for myself and was head carpenter in the restoration of a 1960 Chris Craft runabout, I finished a double sided fireplace in a "Frank Lloyd Wright" styled house on the eastern shore of Maryland and I have a 1300 sqft workshop in my back yard. Lucky you....you have the time and money to do what you love most, I'm still working full time and dreaming of that day.

@@boomerdiorama You might call it a lapel mike over there. You know the ones they use on interviews where the mike clips to clothing around the neck level and a wire runs to a box on the hip. That kind of thing. Not really sure how it syncs with the video though.

You need to use your design and switch to pocket screws. Kreg jig. All those angle brackets can stay in the stores . As well as the doublers. Glue permanent joints, don't glue joints that have to come apart.
You have a "L" piece in your video about 12" long made of plywood. If you make it with glue and about 3-4 kreg screws you can drive you car over it. And the last minor benefit is your wood work will look better, be twice as strong, and use less material.

    • @boomerdiorama
      @boomerdiorama  Před 3 lety

This method is much easier to revise along the way and I can still drive my car over it without the Kreg Jig. It's also very light. Glued joints with pins and corners don't come apart. Not sure what you mean there? Besides, my work day is over long before the Kreg Jig breaks a sweat. Cheers.

Throw away metal brackets and use Kreg pocket screws instead.

@@michaelcurry4855 No way. Corner braces hold the modules together perfectly. Kreg pockets remove too much wood in Birch Plywood. Feel free to use Kreg, we never used them in film and they still don't. Cheers.
