  • Soldering Brass Railings @ 18:59. This is the final episode covering the Model Railroad "Big Warehouse" flat. I revisit some of the methods from the Brewery build coupled to some commentary and the importance of simple details when scratching building any structure.

    Boomer, you make it look so simple. The use of the different shapes and evergreen items is so obvious that many of us might overlook them. Thank you for opening my eyes to the simple things and not to over think it. Take care. Sean.

    I must sound like I am on a recorded loop but there is no other channel on CZcams which goes into and explains scratch building like your channel. Those light boxes and the roofing details are so simple when you break them down. I am hooked! It’s actually a bit of a disappointment to work on a kit now but I can at least use what I have learned from this channel to kit bash the kits and make them just a little different from everyone else’s.

    • @boomerdiorama

    Very thoughtful. I think I would have hung a shaded lamp above thr back door, with a tiny streak of rust from the fitting.
    You had me when you went from roof vents -- very handy -- to light boxes without saying you were now talking about the external walls.
    I love the final video but I've posted before about how I love the clutter along that line that makes it look busy but not enough to clean it up. It's not about the detail but the appearance of detail that leaves an impression.
    Fabulous!

    Indeed Boomer, all those little details tell the visual stories of the company which runs the facility, the people who worked and work there. The postage stamp approach in my humble opinion is also a way to intersperse those very aspects of modeling, where it touches on storytelling. Like the written stories will become more interesting, when the gap between the loading bay and the access landing is mentioned. Or into the details of the rain profile above the door, the exit sign, cameras or outside lighting. It all adds to the narration.
    Love the way you show how to make the lamps, roof vents and concrete stairs. And as always, how the making more than just one single piece, improves the quality of each object. As does the ‘leaving proud’ where one can clean up later.

    I think all scenes are of the “postage stamp” idea as all these small details end up creating a larger well detail scene or vignette. The paint and shading blends and brings it all together. Very nicely done love the final product.

    Great content once again , and those light boxes are humongous. I have one myself from an airplane hanger I took down. The way you put them on the model is a nice touch. I may not be able to use them on my industrial buildings due to the style. Also I notice you always refer to the real world. I try to randomly make a door hand crooked or damage siding or bend a rail here and there....just a thought. I may also try those styrene letters and numbers if I can get them...thanks

I know you build your own rails , but the grates are fantastic for a styrene parts. Also them being styrene they can simply be glued. In the short time I’ve been a subscriber, you’ve really taught me a lot. So thank you for that. Now a question, if your warehouse were deeper and you were to do skylights, how would you go about that? The commercial and 3D-printed options are a bit costly for the quantity that I need. Thanks I’m advance for any suggestions.

    • @boomerdiorama
      @boomerdiorama  Před 2 lety +1

      I would probably build the "Sky-Lights" from styrene like a low profile rectangle box (like a mini house with gable roof sides). Then, I would lay on thin strips for frames like I would frame a roof before sheeting, sand it up and paint it, then drop in a piece of clear plastic for the window glazing from the inside with canopy glue. Check out the Brewery Build light boxes and vents here: czcams.com/video/Zp_6TONwrIk/video.html
      This is a similar approach. I would build them as mini models and then mount them, at the end. I hope that help you some. ;-)

    Hey Boomer. Just curious what you do for uncoupling at the present. I use bamboo skewers. However I do have a couple of spurs close to the back that I want to try some small neodymium magnets. Not my idea. However I've seen them used and I like how effective they seem to work.
    Great video BTW. I agree it's the small details that really help a scene pop. Thanks for taking the time to share your skills sir. 🙂👍

    • @boomerdiorama
      @boomerdiorama  Před 2 lety +1

      I use a bamboo skewer as well. If I need to push a car I just gimble the coupler to push and then back away since there is no grade.

      Soldering paste is a must to get a quick clean solder.
      Then clean it off (soak away) with Isopropyl Alcohol, which evaporates. ;-)

    Buying the materials to make and then making your lights isn't anywhere as expensive as buying pre-made lights to go on the side of the buildings. You can buy the materials to build what, say 20 at the same cost it would take to buy say 5 or less pre-made ones. Seems like more of a deal to build them yourself if you have the skills to do so.
