    I just started getting into Ubiquiti's stuff basically this year. I'm planning on getting this doorbell. I don't have the unifi "ecosystem" yet, but I most likely will down the road. Got the UDM router and have loved the thing so far, plus I don't mind paying for quality stuff. Everything I've seen from this doorbell is very appealing, and I'll probably think of some creative way to block anyone from trying to steal it lol. This video helped me understand what I will need to get it up and running. Legit looking forward to it.

      Don't get the cameras from them. Their nvr system is not that good and they are not trustworthy when it comes to lifetime of products. Go for some ONVIF cameras and use synology. The unifi cameras are a locked eco system and if you do not like the nvr and you want to switch you have to replace the cameras to. With ONVIF cameras you can switch to another nvr and still use the same cameras.

      @@binnihh First off, If you are going to go with a nas solution I would strongly suggest going with QNAP. The security software is really good as well.. Synology only comes with license for 1 camera, QNAP comes with 8. But, that being said, Unifi cameras are really good. The image quality will surprise you, especially on the Flex cameras. Great image for less than $80.00 and it's really simple to setup. I use both. Unifi at my house and QNAP at my office. I have a Synology server for other uses but I find that the QNAP QVR-Pro to be better than what Synology has.

    Good video. But what I think is lacking is the scenarios when you have 1 centralized cloud Key running protect (and unifi) to show that you can ALSO have cameras (and unifi UPAs) installed on a DIFFERENT network and how you proceed to set that up in the real world.
    I now know how but it might be useful for others watching this channel to understand and watch you doing it.

    I’m surprised you didn’t mention that access to the doorbell from the mobile apps requires using Ubiquiti Cloud services which have been down for more than 12 hours in the last few days. Also that Ubiquiti has pushed updates to the locally installed Protect equipment which has caused them to go down even when the users had set their systems to not allow automatic updates.

      -35 here in Canada. I was very interested until I saw the temperature spec.

    • @Rhynri
      @Rhynri Pƙed 3 lety

      I’m guessing it’d work fine. A) those temp guidelines essentially state you are only guaranteed for it to operate as spec’d inside that temp range, mostly with regards to screens, batteries and metallurgy (e.g. spring stiffness, vibration resistance) for cold electronics. B) the heat generated from the device and heat leaking from your house will likely keep the device within that temperature envelope even if actual outside is colder. C) the ring isn’t rated that cold either, yet our old one worked just fine in those temps.
      You could call the company for clarity but I think the above is probable.

    I think the biggest flaw in this doorbell as well as most all other doorbells is that the companies rely on normal push notifications to let you know someone's rung your doorbell. If your phone is on silent, you won't hear anything. If you get motion alerts for your protect cameras, it's very easy to miss the button press notification. These doorbells really really need to implement callkit on iPhone and the Google equivalent for Android phones. Someone pressing your doorbell button should result in a call on your phone that takes over your screen and presents itself like a phone call. Otherwise it's useless unless your home and hear the chime.

      If my phone is on silent, how can I hear it ringing? What about mobile reception? Traditional phone calls will soon become obsolete, my son doesn't even have SIM card in his phone because he's using WiFi connection basically anywhere he needs, with 5G and eSIM, it will be even easier to forget about it. Also, I can easily override any phone sound/DnD settings/state with phone settings, routines or IFTT.

    • @taylorlightfoot
      @taylorlightfoot Pƙed 3 lety

      @@markharwood that doesn’t solve the problem completely. The whole point of these is to answer the doorbell and talk back to the person before they walk away. Home speakers announcing a doorbell press doesn’t connect you to a two way audio call and if you’re not home, the announcements are completely useless. The whole idea is to be able to pretend you’re home if it’s a burglar scoping out your house or to catch a delivery person before they walk off so you can tell them to wait a second while you remotely open your gate.

    • @taylorlightfoot
      @taylorlightfoot Pƙed 3 lety

      @@krisdeb you’re misunderstanding. Call kit is a development framework in the phone. It allows a software developer to initiate a video or audio call using the native phone UI. They are not regular phone calls, they do not rely on a SIM card or mobile reception. They mimic a phone call but they are not.

    The Unifi App for IOS and Android is an absolute embarrasment. For example, with IOS you're forced to use the notoriously bad default iphone "tri-tone" sound for the notification that you get when someone rings your doorbell. Not only that, but the app is buggy and slow. When I get the notification, by the time I get the app to load so that I can see the video and speak to the person at my door, they have long since walked away. People have been complaining to Ubiquiti about the app for well over a year and they have done nothing about it. Again, I would be embarassed to be part of the development team that wrote the app that goes with this doorbell.

      You have to buy additional hardware to use it since it can't just run off of a Linux box like Unifi. So it's a $400 doorbell not $200. Isn't that special?! You can get a Ring Elite with PoE for less than that. Ridic.
