    Few things, make sure HDR is enabled. That helps with some back lighting issues. Also I would also suggest turning off the LDC (Lens distortion correction). It gives wider field of view for the camera.

    I live in North Texas where ambient summer temp's regularly are in the mid 100's. I also get direct sunlight on my doorbell for about 2-3 hours in the late afternoon. Burned through 2 Ring Pro doorbells years ago and they are rated for up to 120º F. I switched to a Nest Hello doorbell over 3 years ago and have had with zero issues from it-and it's only rated for 104º like Ubiquiti's are. I've been wanting to switch to on-premise storage so I may give this a shot.

    4:17 that black box is required so it can deliver power to the doorbell if it's connected to a chime. Doorbells chimes are designed to short the connection to ring the chime. This box changes the behaviour of the two wires going to the camera so the chime will ring and not disconnect power to the camera. If you had a rear doorbell and you wanted another camera connected, you would have to use 2 of those black boxes.

      Holy hell I wish I saw your comment before my install.
      Just went through 2 days of swapping out chime box and transformer and testing out every part only to find out that I skipped out on that little box because of this video.
      I was getting low voltage warning on the doorbell (14V) and buzzing at the chime. That black box was key to it all. No buzz on original chime, 18V at doorbell, on original 16V 10VA transformer.

    I have a G4 Doorbell, and do use the custom messages on the little screen managed through my Homeseer home automation hub. These scenarios are when my wife activates the scene when she is trying to get the baby to take a nap, the event disables the doorbell, and changes the message to let people know that the baby is napping and to send us a text.
    In later iterations of the automation I enabled person detection and had it send me a push notification when a person is detected and the doorbell is off so I can be notified discreetly that there is someone at the door without waking the baby.
    I really would love to have some kind of attention-getting animation so if a person is detected, I can have some animation occur to draw their attention to the screen so they can read the message, if not, like you said, the screen is hard to read and I doubt many even see it.

It is very easy to install and it works very well, with a clear picture through the app and good in-home use (we added the chime, which is also easy to install and doesn't require another thought to use).

    Sad to hear about the speaker size/volume still lacking. I would not blame the form factor. Any decent smartphone has speakers that would suffice, no?
    It would be great if you could add a direct comparison with the non-pro version. I've seen other reviews mentioning that it's at least greatly improved.
    Another thing I wonder about is the POE adapter. Is it still possible to connect the chime wires to trigger a physical chime? I assume so, just that it won't be powered that way.
    Thanks for a great channel!

      For what it's worth, the original G4 Doorbell has the same rated temp range and there are hundreds of folks online saying they have no issues in Canadian Winters or Vegas summers where temps go well outside of that range. They seem to be very conservative on their temp range on the specs, but I understand if that still doesn't give you the warm and fuzzy about purchasing one.

    I wish UI would figure out a way to expand their operating temperature window. In MN, USA, winters very often have stretches well below 14*, and summers can definitely go over 104*. This past winter during a cold period, my older UI doorbell decided it would lag roughly 5 seconds from doorbell push to ring, and would reboot itself when the chime actually rang. UI didn't really have anything to say other than "those are the defined temps" and when pushed, just had me RMA it.

    • @DaveBerthiaume
      @DaveBerthiaume Před 2 lety +4

      As a fellow Minnesotan, I'm more concerned about the 14 than the 104, but isn't it great to live in a state where we can get both?

    • @willcarter7079
      @willcarter7079 Před rokem

      Yeah, operating temp is a deal breaker for me. My front door is on the south side of the house and is hit by the sun most of the day. In Arkansas between July and September most days are around 106 degrees with a real feel of 115 degrees. Most electronics that I own give me an over heat warning when sitting in direct sunlight which is where this door bell will sit.
      🫤 I might still buy it to try it. But I have a feeling that I will have to return it.

      @@biigsmokee using the first generation nest doorbell. I found a good deal. It works fine in the summer heat. But it has issues when it gets below 40 degrees fahrenheit.
      I'm glad I got it cheap because it doesn't have playback, or the ability to record surveillance footage. It takes forever to load the app so people often have already gone by the time I'm able to speak to them. Since there is no play back, I never know who rang my doorbell. If it weren't for the fact that I set up a second security camera on my front door, I wouldn't have any idea what happened. My security camera is Ubiquiti. I already have a Ubiquiti NVR. After my experience with Nest, I'm going to continue saving up for the Ubiquiti Doorbell.

Works great with many retail doorbells that have IoT voice command integration through your preferred flavor like Alexa, Hey Google or Siri. DnD inside UniFi Protect would be a nice feature enhancement and should be relatively easy to implement given Nest, Ring and others can disable the chime relay inside the doorbell configuration via settings app.

    Downsides are that you are stuck keeping the camera in the Unifi protect environment. You cant use it with another NVR such as SCW's which is MUCH better. They have 8MP cameras for less money and they are based in the US. Unifi networking hardware is good, but the cameras are not. They lack BLC (backlight compensation) which causes faces to appear to be dark when the background is light. The G4 Pro does not include a power adapter or chime, while a cheap model I bought on Amazon has BLC, comes with a chime, supports any "Onvif" standardized NVR and comes with a power adapter for 1/6th the price of Uniquiti device.

    regular G4 doorbell 100% detects packages but doesn't send notifications. I've had package smart detections show up but no notifications ( with global package notifications turned on)

    Looking at one of these, but don't have power at the door. Notifications look much quicker and better than Ring. I noticed that they've release / EA PoE input cable.

    My Niece had a Ring doorbell and when she sold her townhouse the new owners wanted the doorbell. With the short supply of the Unifi doorbell pro i would have a hard time not taking it with me

    Is the pro prone to the same issues as the g4? Like rebooting, physical chime and cold weather issues ?

    do you have to have infared enabled for the path light and package detection? Pretty sure you do for the light but not 100% for the package detection as its not that reliable. only detected 2 packages so cant confirm also not getting text notications on those two package detections...

      That's fine as long as you sign up for paid version of the "Uinotify" service. If not, then you can't specifically tell it what product you want to get the notifications for.

    I think that LCD is not meant for direct sunlight installation as the UV would burn that display.

    Hey, can you connect this camera to the access control? I need an outdoor doorbell/ camera and access system but the Access Control Starter Kit is not fully weather proof but I also need a system that I can remotely allow entry into the property. Your help will be much appreciated.

    Great material! Has anyone tried using an internal video terminal for this? I mean one that would be accessible not just from a phone or tablet, but also from a simple screen that could be operated by children who don’t have either a phone or a tablet.

    FINALLY was in stock last Sunday, ordered and installed with Ethernet POE adapter. I started watching ever since they posted early access.
    For some reason the downward facing package camera stopped working it’s just blank. Any clues?
