Thank you for being one of the VERY few YT smart home channels that legitimately considers security in your setups!
Holy fuck, seriously. Everyone else is like "so just put your SSN into the text box when it prompts you!"
Hahaha seriously.
“I have no issue with private conglomerates having my most sensitive information!”
This is one of the most comprehensive and thorough doorbell camera comparisons I've ever seen. Thank you VERY much!!!
Not in the market for a doorbell but watching because your videos on projectors educated me and helped me choose one.
This was FANTASTIC. Been waiting to get a hardwire doorbell for a long time. So nice to see a well considered overview of the typical choices.
Which one are you thinking of getting?
I bought your top pick and it's perfect. Very fast and complete local control to do literally anything in HA. Thanks for making this video and to Reolink for making a great product.
Wow Robert, just what I needed. I was actually convinced I couldn't find a doorbell that ✔all the boxes so I started looking at video doorstation (like the Dahua VTO2211G-P) but I still wasn't convinced, also the prices for some of those are very high. Also I think I do my research well but your hands on approach buying all those bells and actually testing the features instead of making a review for each bell and reading the specs like most others do is refreshing.
Thank you, is my second video in your channel and you do an excellent in depth review of everything, I love it. Your hard work shows in the result, and you waste no time!
OMG - this is exactly the video I wanted!! I have not gone with a video doorbell due to the whole cloud thing!! I have extra computers, I can use one for a server!! Thanks man!!
Wow, EXACTLY the video I needed. I’ve been looking for this kind of video for awhile. Fantastic, as always!
Rob you do the BEST comparison videos. This video is something I have wanted for a very long time!
I'm stoked now! I pre-ordered the ReoLink Wifi back a while ago right before you said you were working on a video. Now I know I don't need to cancel it.
I've been using dahua vto (larger model) and love it. Excellent video day and night. Captured on doorbell SD card if needed.
Super fast on internal VTH which you did not mention as well as on the app.
But even better I can automate my lock through a dry contact and they are really well built and that vto won't be stolen easily... Even if it does an alarm will sound super loud on app and vth.
Finally they give great support..
Thank you so much for this video. Finally I can buy a video doorbell and be confident it'll suit my needs! That'll be the Reolink.
Very helpful! I use Reolink at home and at my small business. I am happy to see the doorbell performed well. I will likely buy it.
The script is super condensed, and voice seems almost sped-up. I love it! So much info in a short space of time. Really great video as usual Rob. Thanks :)
Thanks Mat. It's always my goal to get the most knowledge across in the smallest amount of time.
Yeah, he must have been really cafenated (?) that day, speedy rob!
@@TheHookUp For me was the voice to fast. I've skipped parts. to go to the conclusion and or intrest for me like the reolink doorbell.
@@tontenkink3452 I thought its was still way too slow, even when playing at 2x speed. 2.25 speed felt about right though.
the first one to review the new reolink doorbells which I've been waiting for. Cheers
am currently using the older version of nest doorbell. it's convenient as it will show who's at the door on nest home hub max. Can reolink be done in similar way? with the help of HA perhaps? be good if we can still utilise google home hub max as chime as someone rings the doorbell. I'm very interested with the wifi model as it will replacement like for like for my setup.
Finally! I've been holding off on getting a smart doorbell. Seeing the Reolink POE version, I am hyped.
You are like a tech version of Project Farm, which is a super high praise. Love your content man!
I really like how you keep privacy in mind. It’s what I value most as far as tech goes
Brilliant review, thanks for this as I was recently looking to get a doorbell and all the popular ones are monthly subscriptions, hopefully the reolink comes into stock soon 🤞
Thanks for the video Rob. I appreciate the hard work you did testing all these doorbells. My takeaway is that I am going to wait. I need a product that works well and has tight integration with Home Assistant.
Hopefully the Reolink integration will be great once the Dev gets his hands on a doorbell.
Have been waiting for this video! Keep doing amazing work for the smart home community!
Thanks Hook Up, another fair and detailed review comparing brands, much appreciated.
This was an incredibly helpful, well researched and presented video. Kudos to you, and thank you.
Great video! I have a ton of Reolink and Amcrest products. Re the amcrest bitrate/image quality issue, most of this is fixable by logging into the camera's web based interface. They actually have (at least for the amcrest cameras I own) a TON of image quality settings, including bitrate (of course), and more importantly, shutter timing and HDR settings. By upping the bitrate, using h.265 if available, and adjusting frame times you can really get a much better image. This is specifically how I configured an Amcrest doorbell cam at a relative's house to significantly improve image quality from what was capable in their crappy doorbell app.
The ad410 doesn’t have a web based interface, though some of those image settings are accessible when using the desktop app.
Thanks for bringing this type of content. Really helpful
I have been waiting for this video for so long! Absolutely pumped!
4:30 If your doorbell camera isn't properly sending motion and button press events the best option can be to send the video feed to frigate and rely on person detection. You could also use an esp32 to detect the doorbell chime for button events but that might be a bit out of scope.
Amazing video - just was I was looking for. I will definately order the Reolink camera - seems it was worth the wait
Very good video!
I would also be very interested in a comparison between regular cameras that support two-way audio, as there are no such comparisons yet!
Thanks for this Great Review...Thank you for also mentioning our Huge Thread on IPCAMTALK too...
I have the Reolink POE on order, will be bench testing it upon arrival...
Finally!!!! a video review of exactly hat i needed! Now just need to wait for the reolink to become available in the UK. Also, hopefully the doorbell notifications will also work by then!
You really do the best reviews. Amazing
As usual, a great and comprehensive review Rob. My issue is similar to one that you have (or maybe had) - my home was built without a wired doorbell, so I have NO existing wiring.
I've looked at pulling some bell wire, but there is no easy access from either my roof or basement. So, at this point, the Ring doorbell is not ideal, but has a removable rechargeable battery. My hope is that one day someone will offer a battery powered, non-cloud option. I guess I will have to be patient.
Subscribed because of the focus on local control, security and privacy.
Omg. I just received my pre-ordered Reolink POE doorbell two days ago, I have been waiting for this weekend to do the install. It was the first time I ever pre-ordered and patiently waited for a product and after watching this video I realized it was worthwhile. All my cameras systems are reolink POE, I have them connected to home assistant and everything works flawlessly. Even the current firmware already support pressed button events sent to HA, I have programed the doorbell dign dong sound through my Bose audio system at home via home assistant in addition to the Included chime from reolink.
Did you use the out of the box Reolink integration with Home Assistant? I have the WiFi version and I'm only getting two entities out of the doorbell... nothing for door presses.
@Brian Meissen I was initially using the HACS version which met all my requirements with sensors for everything, for people motion, cars motions, doorbell button, etc. Then I changed to new stock integration released this year and found only a handful of sensors for my cameras losing most of my automations. So I went back to the hacs version and that is what I'm using now.
Great work here. Thanks a lot for saving me the time! I love this channel
Very indepth as always, thank you for sharing, great job!!
Been waiting for this! Reolink's fault but apparently worth it. Surprised that more vendors have not gone the dual camera route with Package Detection. Superb and thorough review as always. Need to watch a few more times to soak it all in.
I think leaving packages at front door is mostly USA and Canada thing and if you have people recognition and notifications you'll still see that someone brought you a package.
I've been waiting for this one! Thank you!
Thank you very much for this thorough and interesting comparison! It was exactly what I was looking for. 🎉
Great video, will need it as I'm moving into a new place soon. The UniFi ones were very disappointing, given the high cost.
Great Video. I've been using Reolink Camera's for the last 5+ years. Home and Business and doesn't look like I'll be Changing anytime soon as reviews for Reolink still seem to be a great purchase.
I was waiting for that review. Thank you.
Great review. I was also disappointed in the Amcrest AD410. I had two of them fail in direct sunlight…in Massachusetts….in May…not exactly hot weather!
Great video! Makes me really happy I preordered my Reolink doorbells
Bravo! Excellent! This is exactly what I've been looking for. The wired reolink version isn't available for sale, they must have sold out
Great review, I have the Guarding vision NDS-313 which is exact same hardware as Hikvision. When I purchased it was the only Doorbell cam that could use existing wiring and had Onvif connectivity. Works great but less techy people may have an issue with NVR connectivity, my only complaint with it is DHCP only. The app always finds it but any network reboots can change it from NVR.
If you make a DHCP reservation on your router, it will always get the same IP address from the DHCP server.
Thank you for the detailed video, been considering a video doorbell but am still not convinced. Really enjoy the level of detail you provide. I finally finished setting up my 12 camera perimeter but am still working out all the kinks with BI and false detection. Will need to go back to your older videos to see what tweaks I can do but overall really enjoying my build/setup. Hopefully by the time I get that running smoothly the video doorbell market will improve more and it will be an easy PnP setup.
Great video, surprised Reolink took that much of a lead over the others. 6 have the inventory for customers of more delays. I do wish they had a vertical adjustment, but I'm sure there will be lots of 3D printer accessories for the Reolink doorbell.
Just bought Reolink POE, but it doesn't call you when someone is at the door, this makes the product totally useless as a doorbell. (camera is ok)
Great content and to the point. Its great. There's a few channels on YT that I have to constantly scrub through to get away from the cheesy cut-aways to juvinile humor. I"m sure you know the ones haha. Anyway , cheers and thanks again!
GREAT video. Keep up the great reviews like this. Thank you.
I sadly made the mistake of buying the AD410, I removed it 15 minutes later. No idea why so many people rate it so highly.
I was all set on the Reolink WiFi, but it not being able to use my current chime is a show stopper, can't understand why Reolink have gone down that route it's already using the wiring and surely works have been cheaper.
Looks like I'm stuck with my crappy Nest Hello for a bit longer. 😭
Fantastic work as always, great pace and a quality review. Top notch vid!
great video, thanks!! one thing to add will be homekit compatibility as well. You can also use Scrypted for it
Homekit stuff will be in the other video. Homekit isn't fully local or cloud free, it just has a certain subset of features that need to be available locally.
@@TheHookUp true, although i see it today as a good complement to home assistant as you can use things like Scrypted, to enable HKSV recording on any IP camera and see it from outside w/o any VPN or so. it also has an option to treat any IP camera as a homekit doorbell
Great comparison. Subscribed. In your next doorbell video it would be great to see the delay receiving a notification when your phone is on a cellular network.
Yep, that test will be in the video.
@@TheHookUp thanks looking forward to it.
As I run Dahua for my main cameras, I was excited to see a review of their doorbell camera. Followed but gut wrenching disappointment over the lack of clarity in video.
I've always been against reolink due to their cloud stance, but this surprised me at their ability to open up locally.
Biggest counterpoint I'd make is that you make an assumption that everyone already has a doorbell wired up. But for those of us with older homes, wireless battery doorbells might have been all that were used, so running poe is no different than running a doorbell wire. Unless of course we just go pure battery powered, but those all seem to be cloud only models.
Great video and the timing for me is perfect.
I gave up on my search for the perfect POE doorbell a year or two ago and got an amcrest AD410. I hate that it's Wi-Fi but it's been pretty good. Intercom via BlueIris isn't really workable (it does work, just seems like a janky connection), but it does the doorbell thing and adequate video. The entranceway area is covered by an additional 4k camera, so I have identification quality available there.
Fantastic video, thanks for taking the time (and expense) of doing this. One question re the reolink chime: does the light ring flash when the doorbell is pressed or is it always on? I'd be using an arduino to hook it up to our existing chime and a flashing light ring (with a photoresistor) would avoid having to tap into the speaker wire inside.
Great video as always. I didn't even make it all the way to the end before I was clicking BIN on the Reolink wifi doorbell. Reolink website makes you subscribe for updates on availability, but Amazon shows it's available to ship next day delivery.
You lucked out, that just showed up on Amazon yesterday!
Thank you for including the Reolink Doorbells (the most important part for me 🤣) I've been tempted by Eufy offerings, but have been waiting eagerly to see if the Reolink's stack up.
Great work as always 😀
The problem with eufy is someone can steal the doorbell easily, and press the reset button, and that wipes all data stored on the hub.
I’ve been waiting on the Reolink as well. I’ve got 5 other Reolink POE cameras so I’m pretty sure that the POE doorbell camera will be awesome.
@@FeelsDonkMan Yes that was one of the cons for sure, can't believe that hasn't been fixed yet. Maybe future FW update will fix that gaping hole. Either way, I'll take the Reolink 😅
@@mikeE0055 Yeah really happy to have gone with Reolink myself. They seem to have gone from strength to strength. Just need to modernise the mobile app a bit and would be pretty much perfect 😁
Thanks for the video, for me a big factor that (I believe) you miss is the response time between someone ringing your door and you answering. With my Unifi doorbell, if someone rings the door, most of the time by the time I open the app and talk, the person (typically the postman) is gone already.... it should be way quicker to answer.
Another point would be the quality of WIFI reception, I m under the impression that my doorbell has a poor antenna placement and therefore is not able to get a perfect signal if I do not have an access point very close. And that could explain why I m not sure about your test at 5 feet as I believe that my G4 gives me a way better image quality.
I would love to see this for door locks, no cloud but have things like home assistant to have some automation with auto locking or unlocking
Zigbee and Zwave locks are the easy way to accomplish that.
Ip65 will most likely be needed in places with snow. My doorbell is always covered in snow, so something as big as this will definitely be covered with snow
My G4 pro has survived several snow storms already just fine. I don't have a porch covering so it is exposed to the elements.
Excellent video as always!
Sure hope the Reolink PoE is the doorbell many of us have been waiting for. I see Reolink has delayed the rollout to December. No big deal if it delivers. Plenty of folks have homes wired with CAT 5 or 6 at their doorbell locations but have very few doorbell options in the marketplace to pick from. (i.e., finding one that is truly POE as well as being with ONVIF and RTSP compliant, will work with 3rd party NVR's, has a nice smartphone app and will provide all the advantages of a doorbell like Ring... but without a monthly subscription. Past Reolink products have been plagued with problems but I'm hoping they get it right this time. Would be great to see Ring Doorbell get knocked down a couple pegs.
Great video! Thanks for your efforts. Is there a way to get the Reolink doorbell also wired to an existing chime?
Nothing off the shelf, but there are plenty of ways to ring the existing chime using home assistant, or even possibly by modifying the Reolink wireless chime.
I've been hunting for the G4 Pro for months but after this I'm having second thoughts. I already had the HS-HD1 (I have the UK version - EZIVIZ DB1) and it's been fine, but missing a few features. I really wanted the dual camera option of the G4 Pro but now having second thoughts.
Great review, I previously had Nest doorbell and I just installed the Reolink POE version to go with my Reolink NVR system. After installing it I didn't realize Reolink doesn't have rich notifications which was a big disappointment. I thought about returning it to get the WIFI version but found out it requires cloud subscription like Nest requires as well. But Nest does has the option to operate the existing chime which is great.
I had a chat with an agent at Reolink Support team. They told me that rich notifications (with photo) are available only with Cloud subscription. But this doesn't stop me to have push notifications on my phone (only with words) and I will be able to have 2-way conversation with the visitor (between doorbell phone). Could you please confirm if this works well for you? Thank you!
That is correct. Only rich notifications requires cloud usage, the rest is done with p2p.
Correct, you will be able to tap the notification wait for app to load then answer doorbell with pre loaded sentences or your voice. @@vorbiskad
Hey Rob, you showed in another video a few months ago hooking up the G4 Pro to Home Assistant and sending custom audio alerts from a push notification. I love this feature. Does the Reolink or any of the others support this too?
this video is pure solid gold!
Great video as always Rob. I would love to see a video on comparing the mobile apps for the various NVR platforms. I like BI but it is a little difficult for the wife. I would like to do a Reolink system but the reviews on the app are horrible. Not sure if that is because of user error or actually the app.
I did do an NVR comparison here: Ultimate Network Video Recorder Comparison: Finding the Best NVR
czcams.com/video/awQgyKJFYZo/video.html
This is exactly what I was looking for!
Great video, thanks for all the details.
great video! Wish the Reolink could tie into my home chime
Great video! Well that Reolink PoE doorbell seems to be the perfect match. It looks to be compatible with google home. Is a google nest hub (2nd gen) able to announce and show the Reolink doorbell camera automatically when someone rings the doorbell?
Wow. Great review. I'm really disappointed in the UniFi G4/G4 Pro performance. I've been holding out for the G4 Pro, but this makes me re-think that.
I've love mine and I don't regret it one bit.
Thanks so much for this video review.
What I didn’t get precisely (due to the fact that I’m Italian so my English starts lacking as your speech speed increases 😢)is the difference between Reolink WI-FI and PoE.
I’d rather go for the PoE but I wait your explanation, please. Thank you.
P.S. I bought a Reolink PoE cam thanks to you!!! 😉
If you are able to run an ethernet cable PoE is better for a whole host of reasons, but as far as video quality I don't think there is any difference between the PoE and WiFi versions.
@@TheHookUp I will go for the PoE then!
Looking forward to ear about a software improvement by Reolink to track everything.
Sure wished the Reolink worked with existing chimes. Not sure what the next best pick would be.
Amazing review! Thank you so much!
Great video! It would be interesting to know your opinion regarding doorbird. It' quite expensive but it has some interesting features like an open API and native support for being integrated as a security camera and also for SIP.
Doorbird seems REALLY overpriced for what you get. The also don’t have many consumer grade options. Most need to be inset into the wall.
finally local storage is included ONVIF how it should be!
After watching, i expected them better…
Very nice work.
Dahua has more high end doorbell, maybe the vidéo is better.
Home assistant intégration is mentioning full compatible models also
Great review. What is your thoughts on the Eufy 3 in 1 S330 Video Smart Lock?
God bless you. I hate cloud based stuff and this is exactly what I wanted to see
Thanks for a really useful video. So are there any video doorbells that have working 2 way audio in Blueiris? For me the missing piece of the puzzle remains being able to bypass any of these apps and get this functionality into Home Assistant somehow, even through another program (such as Blueiris) or integration.
For the unifi cameras, I've been able to access them locally without using the cloud login. You just need to make a local account within your local UI console (I'm using a UDM Pro)
Yes. But you cannot use that to discover your protect server via VPN when using it remotely.
@@TheHookUp From what I recall, I had to manually enter the protect server info... I'll need to check again and will report back!
Didn't see it noted but the reolink also supports both 2.4 and 5Ghz wifi.. Which is semi rare for wireless security cameras in general and important for higher bitrates.
Sure enough my current doorbell is almost dead and the Reolink doorbells are not in stock.
Thank you for your methodical overview. Would the Reolink POE doorbell fit in a 1 gang box? I understand that a new faceplate would have to be cut or printed....
Thank you.
Thanks again for the great info. How about comparing to using a regular security camera as doorbell cam? For those of us running Ethernet anyway, knowing how the cameras compare would be helpful. 2 way talk could be a separate device or skipped for those who don't see the need.
The big difference would be in the angle of the camera. You aren't likely to just install a full security camera at eye level, so it becomes a top-down view instead of head on.
@@TheHookUp Very true, I was considering a different position/angle of the porch security camera for that reason (new house construction). So I am curious on comparing the image quality, i.e. as example, how would a regular RLC-820A compare? If they are the same then either of those PoE doorbell cameras might be ideal, but otherwise maybe a regular security camera (with perhaps a different mounting position/angle) would give better picture or better value.
I like the PoE option better, as it gives me easier battery backup install. Plus I don't have a doorbell wire run to the door currently (side door closest to driveway) so I need to run wires anyways
For anyone with the AD410, do not use Amcrest Surveillance Pro to make any modifications to your doorbell video settings. It results in a weird flickering, grainy image, and overall lower quality. The only way to resolve it is by resetting the device.
The sharpness on this camera is screwed up. If you use this software it defaults all the image settings back to 50%. Change sharpness to 0, apply, then move it back up to 10 to 15 while testing view. You can eliminate defaulting it this way and still benefit from changing the bit rate, quality etc... to get a much better image out of it.
@@markgrotte2968 What software should we use to make these changes?
Thank you, great video. Wish you included the Univision unit, it seems better than the reolink
Univision?
Awesome, we need to promote more on-prem hosted solutions!
Do you plan to have a look for similar products, but intended for more than 1 flat?
Great video. I was deciding between the POE and WiFi Reolink video doorbells and your review pushed me in the WiFi direction. Any idea when Reolink is going to release the video doorbell?
I've heard shipments will be happening mid-December.
@@TheHookUp Mine is due to be delivered today 1st Nov (in Ireland)
I just tried my Amcrest AD410 with the Dahua DMSS app, using LAN connection only and the 2-way audio is working just fine, I can hear the sound from the camera and by pressing the microphone button I can talk to it aswell. I am however using the Android version of the app, so I wouldn't totally rule it out. I just wish I could use the speaker on the camera as the media_player in HA so I can send TTS messages to it.
I have the amcrest. First month if worked fine but after it has lost power and I need to either flip the breaker or reset and I don't get a down alert. I will need to contact them to see if I have a dud. I turned on the HDR feature (whatever they call it) and you get a much better exposure.
Great job as always! Is it wrong for me to hope for my Ring doorbell to fail so I can get a Reolink?
I appreciate this review and I have a couple of comments. It is disappointing of the video quality of the Unifis considering the hardware (I got into the Unifi universe in part from your videos). The only thing that might help in the future is that the software may catch up to the hardware in the devices at some point. But you have to review what you have now. I am not as put out as you by the issue regarding restricting Unifi cams to local access only. Part of the whole point of owning these cameras is the ability for the owner to be notified when someone comes in front of it. And I'm not home all the time which means the only way I'm going to find out is if there is cloud functionality. I get that you really want this feature and you were one of the loudest to complain when Unifi briefly took the feature away with the UDMs. I agree that the UDMs need local logins for specific good reasons. But for accessing Protect and the cams, I'm fine with access to the cloud.
Amcrest has a support page to use 2-Way-Audio in Blue Iris. Worked for me.
Can you share the link with me (and anyone else reading this)?
I just tried again with no luck. Any time I press the microphone button it disconnects the camera.
@@TheHookUp At the moment I have these settings. But I don't know if it makes a difference. Probably copied from some forum.
/cam/realmonitor?channel={CAMNO}&subtype=0&authbasic={AUTH64}
/cam/realmonitor?channel={CAMNO}&subtype=1&authbasic={AUTH64}
Getting RTSP 404 not found with those settings. Very strange.
@@TheHookUp Nice following this thread I was able to get two way talk working for AD410 in BlueIris. After reading up how on 2way talks in BlueIris looks like 2 way talk is implemented based on the camera manufacturer. So in order to get it to work you must specify the manufactuer, you mentioned you got the Dahua app to work. So in blueiris specify the Make: Dahua, Model: *Main Stream RTSP. After doing this you will end up with the links @LR mentioned. Niceee, strange googling didn't straight give the answer. No one seems to made a top line post about this.
