I’ve been a lakers fan since 2007 and Kobe been my favorite player growing up but I never knew he was this popular in China. He was pretty much a God over there.
When Kobe died in China it was so huge that it was broadcasted all over China news. Even when China was broadcasting NBA games with their internet services, almost every break was a highlight reel of Kobe
whether you play or not play basketball in China, you know kobe and everyone loves kobe in China. His spirits influence many people. He is the most popular player in China, no one can compare with him
Actual I watched Jordan playes when I was like 8 or 9 years old. At that time in china we can only watch nba finals on live like what we are having everyday. Jordan and Marlon are my earliest nba star in my memory. By the way I am 33 years old right now. But Kobe, who was growing up with 80s in China. We had his whole career. 4 most famous nba players in china for 80s: KB, AI, Tmac and VC.
It is not that China didn't see Michael Jordan, in fact, MJ was famous among Chinese basketball players. But Kobe was not just famous, he befriended both players and spectators. The difference between MJ and Kobe is that Kobe went to China often and worked with local basketball camps. By the way, Kobe also went to many countries but somehow the people inside China embraced Kobe like no other place. Kobe also had one distinct advantage because he spent many years growing up in another country, not the USA. I think Kobe was instinctively aware of different cultures that enabled him to work well with non-English-speakers. If Kobe was not struck by that very sad event, he would wind up as the most important man to further develop China's basketball world. As a foreigner in China, that was no undersized feat. Many Chinese sports commentaries openly said that Kobe then was the brighter star than their local basketball hero, Yao Ming.
This is a different level of fame when you go outside the country and your treated this way . This is not for the normal CELEBRITY this is Michael Jackson status. No cap kobe bryant was that dude
Kobe was like a president in China 💔
Kobe > 10 Lebron James in CN
Emperor of China
@@kevinli9359 1 Lebron James > 12 million Uighurs
@@kevinli9359 probably need 1000 LB, Kobe was really a different man in China, when he died, every single person in China mourned
In part because he truly respected chinese people and liked their culture. They respect the ones who respect them back .
