He's a good neighbor/community member. He's invested in our town a great deal. But we leave him alone in the grocery store and around town. He's unmistakable but very kind though, and down to earth in his own quirky and eccentric way.
I hear if you bug Stephen King for a selfie at the grocery store you see the deadlights.
I would't bother him either, but I must confess I would stare for a few seconds!
@@shelbyseitzinger927 heeheehee!
@@grainnegrau You must go if you get the chance! It would be that much better to see him in a familiar setting! My sister's favourite book is "The Shining" as well. Take care & stay safe.
Amy: Same thing goes down here, even with the Snowbirds.
I've been reading Stephen King since I was 11 years old. I am now 56. It's been an extreme pleasure/scare.
Similar here. I'm 51 but starting reading King's horror stories around age 7-8. I remember my sister read me a bedtime story ... a short story by Stephen King XD Story was "The Boogeyman", I think it was in the collection "Skeleton Key" . And yes it was the one story by King that traumatized me. I read Carrie around same time but that novel didn't bother me as much as the short story. Heck reading Pet Cemetery didn't bother me that bad!
... but then my sister already knew my childhood fears of monsters under the bed and the closet. So she read me the ONE story that that the monster in the closet! lol
I'm 48 and sometimes forget that he has such many iconic books and movies from his books. I've read some translated bit prefer the original of course.
Same. Have (almost) every book. The true master!

"The stand" is one of the greatest stories ever written.

Fucking love the stand man
It’s definitely one of his greatest works.
The stand kind of reminds me of the corna pandemic... community spread 😳😱
I read The Stand about ten times. When he released the uncut edition, I read that ten times as well. Such a good read, even if you know the outcome!

Well... every chandelier does seem to have that one bulb that burns half as bright, and flickers just enough to make you worry it'll start a fire.
If that’s the case, you might want to replace the chandelier.
Especially if you have got a _chandelier,_ you might want to replace it with some ordinary _lights,.._ 👍
Unfortunately, this is America, so most of the bulbs are about to start fires. And it's more like a bunch of old, half-used candles thrown onto a table instead of a chandelier.
Might want to replace republican legislatures too..
RD is the dirty old spiderweb strand that always seems to be hanging from that half-dim bulb, swaying in invisible breezes

I was allowed to read pretty much whatever I wanted. I got dragged out of study hall for reading Valley of the Dolls, placed in the principal's office and my mom was called. (I didn't even know she was home-none of my business). She was put on speakerphone. After she was told my crime, she said, "You're calling me because SHE'S READING???"
I never got an apology, but they left me alone afterwards. 🤓📚
Awesome story! I remember in grade school when I was sent to bed at 8 pm every school night. I stood behind my folding bedroom door and read by the pinpricks of light that filtered through. By homeschool I had graduated to reading under the covers by flashlight. Almost every cent of my allowance went to buying more books. My long suffering mother spent more than 10 years hearing "As soon as I finish this chapter!" every time she asked me to do another chore. It's been more than 50 years, and I still find time to read several books every week. I tell my grandchildren that I've traveled all over the world through the magic of books, and I've given them many as books. Some books stick with me much longer than others. It's been decades since I read Valley of the Dolls, but as soon as i read that title Neely and the whole tragic storyline of the book popped back into my mind.
I pretty much got the same treatment 4 reading cujo. My book was confiscated. I snuck into the principals office on the last day of school and stole it back out of her desk.
What a great Mom story, love her
I love King's books. With his grounded and 'normal' demeanor, it has always amazes me that he can come up with such, at times, disturbing stories.
Dark times when the science fiction/horror genre is being eclipsed by reality.
Yes I think the same of 1984 and Brave new World too and those are much older books. I have not liked the horror genre much since my late teens personally.
Stephen King is lucky that a Hero Governor like Desantis is fighting to keep businesses open. If Amazon and other online book sellers did not exist King would have been bankrupt from the inability to sell any movies or books in CA and NY due to the eternal lockdowns.

The first book I ever read completely as a kid was Stephen kings The Stand, it was so long and so wonderful. None of his movies can ever surpass the imagination that this man can put down on paper.
I slept with the light on for weeks after reading the description of going through the road tunnel ! So vivid and horrific an image that was.
The movies are all terrible interpretation
I absolutely loved the dark tower series. And almost fainted when the movie came.
I know a couple that went on vacation to Maine and ended up meeting him at a bookstore. She was so in awe she couldn't speak. He is her fav all time author. They just said he was a nice down to earth great guy. He looks like he is🥰
When you've written over 60 amazing novels you can wear whatever you damn well please on television.
I did think that lol
When you're over 60 in these times ditto.
Stephen King is my favorite! Not only because he’s a great writer but because he’s funny too.
His best novel is 11/22/63. It is incredible and unlike many of his novels. I’ve read just about everything he’s written.
I'm not a horror person (gives me nightmares) but I was gifted a copy of his book "On Writing" (because that I do) and it is absolutely excellent!
He’s an EXCELLENT writer and teacher. I think I read some of that book years ago. I’d like to purchase that book.
Read the dark tower if nothing else. Very little horror elements in my opinion. Plays more as a thriller til book 6 or seven. Then the real horrors commence.
I think it gave King nightmares to and that's how we got some of the great stories. Maybe embrace the nightmares and have a pen ready to go
I love that book! I think I remember disagreeing with him about adverbs but that's no big deal. It's the kind of book that's worth keeping around for the rest of your life for reference.
My all time fave in the psychological horror genre is “The Shining.”
I absolutely LOVE this man!!!
I’m always shocked the sheer amount of works Stephen King publishes each year. And despite the sheer volume of his works the quality never wavers. That man is a machine! 👍🏻
He is certainly an over zealous genius to be sure. He is a genuine treasure in the land of fiction.
I wouldn't say it never wavers.
I love Stephen King too (Maine represent!), but I'd say his writing sometimes wavers, not often though! ;-) For instance, the ending of IT was completely out of left field, but before that, holy crap, like many of his works, a terrifying book!
I am a Stephen King fan from way back, "The Talisman" to me is one of the greatest books ever. I also appreciate James Patterson (all genres) & Janet Evanovich always some laughs & a quick read. 📑📚

He's such a prolific published author that David Letterman joked in a monologue: Stephen King was in town at a bookstore. He wasn't writing his signature inside his books, he was writing everyone in the line a new book.
King is a master craftsman of character creation. It's amazing hearing him say anything at all about real people.
He is real people. That's how he knows. :-)
It is a damn shame he has been branded a horror writer. He could write the deepest book reflecting on the human condition. nostalgia of his childhood (the body) our destructive tendencies (christine) how he feels about his celebrity status (misery) the realities of an abusive marriage (dolores clayborne) fears and how to overcome them (it). But the blurb writer would say "king is bac with this terrifying bone chilling glimpse inside his hideous mind"
What impresses me the most about King besides his characters is his uncanny ability to depict a vibrant picture of the American way of life dripping with realism and humanity.

My sister & I went to Toronto, Ontario to see Stephen King & his son Owen. They were promoting their book "Sleeping Beauties". It was a magical night! Everyone received a hardcover copy of the book on the way out. There were about 900 people there & Mr. King & his son pre-signed about half of them. We didn't get a signed copy. 😢 Mr. King & his son each read from the new book & answered all kinds of questions from the audience. I have been a fan of Stephen King since the early 70's. I first read the work of Stephen King many decades ago. My first was the short story, Children of the Corn. That night I fell in love. He is, in my opinion, the only writer of good horror in this century or the last.
For me it would be difficult to decide upon my favorite of all his novels, but my favorite of the short stories remains Children of the Corn. I think that, before everyone has tipped their glasses too much at a Halloween party, it should be read aloud to the guests. This may sound excessive, but it could be done and would set the tone for the evening to be certain. I am seriously thinking of doing this myself, but I would have it stated on the invitation every guest coming would be prepared. Of course it could be that I alone would be in attendance. SO BE IT!
I love the original mini series too its powerful and creepy at times. I watched it and the langoliers and the Tommy knockers as a kid in the mid 90s and loved the vibe!!! Oh and of course the original IT!! To me it really gets you to truly love the characters of the losers club.
