      Every time he accidentally breaks a game, I'm automatically reminded of the short speech he made in a playthrough of Slender: The Arrival.
      "Y-you know.. there comes a time.. in a man's life.. when he reaches a breaking point. A breaking point at which... This curse that I have, this burden that I bear.. where I have this unescapable ability to break games and get the *_LAST_* end.. sucking on the _LAST_ teat of the game developer, and I'm just... The kids aren't dead. If you remember Miss Delights tape she asked Catnap about where they were. Then asks if they were in the same location as the adults, he answers no. She then asks if the children are fine, which he answers yes. She then ask if she can see them, he answers no. She then talks about he fact that he probably knew she would "kill" them all. This hints towards that the children are alive. They would most likely have grown up by now, but they are likely to be alive.

    1:44:00 I think part of the issue is that the game was telling and not showing with respect to CatNap who is presumably the main villain in this title. Sure you'd have a couple of sequences where Catnap is lurking in the background, but he never really actually interacted with the player until the very end. Perhaps you could have a sequence where Catnap is chasing you in the middle of the game where it is revealed by chance or by quick thinking by the player that Catnap hates steam. Then in the final bossfight you'd have a very natural inkling about what to do. In fact, I thought the section with the small toys chasing you was an introduction to a boss fight mechanic using this same reasoning, especially when DogDay became the nightmare version. I was certain that finger gun was going to be used heavily in the final fight. It was, but in a vastly different way than was presented previously in game.
    Storywise, Catnap always felt like a distant force. Then when he threatened you to leave or die, the natural response of the player is "okay bye". He shouldve said something like "I wont let you leave here alive." to make the final confrontation make sense. Most people are conflict averse, and when faced with an army of killer toys and a big demonic cat, most people, even trying to save the world, would flee if given the choice. You have to get all parties motivations straight including the players. If the player needs to fight or die, the confrontation makes sense. Here it really didn't.

    • @justsomeguywhoneverdies9210
      @justsomeguywhoneverdies9210 Před 2 měsíci +146

      they wanted to make catnap a little like a real cat, playing with his prey before killing it. But they didn't do a good job at the "playing" part, it's like he pointlessly wanders around us.
      in the last room with the red smoke in Home Sweet Home, it was CatNap spreading the smoke through a vent to block our path, then he went away as we entered the vent, but 99% of players would miss that part

    • @unclekoopus2784
      @unclekoopus2784 Před měsícem +42

      It's been said that CatNap only comes after you when you go through with the final steps to open the hatch in the Gas Production Zone. Through that hatch is the way to get down to the Prototype, which we understand as something that CatNap does not want us to do. Or we would understand it if the game communicated more clearly that that was what we were doing all along. The game does make it clear that CatNap worships the Prototype, and we can kind of intuit that we're here to kill the prototype, Poppy says as much midway through the chapter, but we aren't given a super clear idea of what we're doing and how it ties into this goal.
      If we understood that motivation clearly, then the final encounter would feel more like a trial that we want to undertake. We'd understand that CatNap is an obstacle to our goal and why he is attacking us at that junction. Whether we're motivated to kill the prototype yet or not, whether DogDay's plea impressed upon you that we need to do something, we would understand this final fight is something that must happen in order to progress the story and get where we're going.
      It wouldn't take very much at all to make this happen either, just a line from Ollie or Poppy stating that through that hatch in the Gas Production Zone is the way to the Prototype, not vaguely stated by Ollie that "That's how we get to him", but straight up declaring "The prototype is down there, we need the power back on so we can storm his sanctuary and take our revenge. CatNap doesn't want us to get down there, so he'll try to stop you at all costs." We'll understand that this is Poppy's motivation, and if we're swayed by the Hour of Joy tape, then we'll be all on board by the end.

    I feel like the final fight sort of feels weak cuz the game hypes CatNap so much only for that final battle to be like that. We hear hes a hunter, he likes to toy with his prey but nothing like that really happens. the mommy long legs chase was more tense in comparison imo. Maybe if they had spent some time allowing the player to actually witness catnap in the game would have helped? idk maybe a chase scene, maybe something with the smoke to show it can stop him, something to show how the flare can help you tell whats real or not BEFORE the final fight. Still, its a fun game on its own and marks always great to watch, thanks for playing it!

Why would a facility need this many tools and puzzles just to go to another room, and why would they require these tools to access dangerous areas rather than making stairs/ladders. It's fine to sacrifice some believability for gameplay, but this goes to an extent beyond that. It's frustrating and tedious for the sake of it. Also despite being a puzzle horror, it's way more puzzle than horror and that kills alot of the atmosphere as well. Very much padding for time.

      @@basil3779 the thing is people interact with games differently and ignoring a games problems to make it work is something some people won't do. Its the same with fnaf lore. To explain half of it you have to just sort of accept the dumb reason as to why. Oh why did ennard split into molten freddy and scrap baby, 'because in the Scott games website it said they kicked baby out' and I think that sucks. Mark gave this game every opportunity as did I when I played. Chapter 3 is a lack luster game with a decent story but catnap got screwed. I was hooked during the house sequence. Then it fell off. I was waiting for that big moment. And it never happened. People view media how they view media. Some peoples brains can turn off if what they are playing isn't good. This game is just puzzles with occasional lore so I would understand if Mark didn't focus on that because all he was doing was solving puzzles. Plus mans making a movie I dont think poppy playtime lore is in his care

    • @RedemptionsPain
      @RedemptionsPain Před měsícem +37

      Chapter 3 is flawed, even when paying attention. The "lore" catnap has is barely recognizable, sure, some tapes reveal he's an experiment but thats it. He's barely seen in the game tbh, you just kill him at the end and occasionally get the spook from him showing up. They failed to build up him as an enemy, and he is more seen as a casual side enemy then a boss. Mark approaches games differently as well, the game didn't really captivate him into the story, as he said at the end its more frustrating and that caused him to not want to pay attention to what little the game has to offer. It's repetitive when it comes to the puzzles and frustrating. Just some insight since the game really didn't give much for story or enemies in my opinion, very lackluster.

    While I do agree with Mark on a lot of points involving the gameplay and not communicating properly to the player on what they’re supposed to do, the story itself is another matter. The issue at hand is that Poppy Playtime relies heavily on their ARG/VHS lore drops that they post on either their website or channel. Or little details scattered about in their spin-off game Project Playtime. Things that hungry fans will devour in no time with discussion posts and theory videos. So when you finally get around to Chapter 3, everything makes sense. And that’s the problem. The game assumes you have all this information and just continues as if no time was lost between chapters. Which is fine mostly for a mascot game series where communities like this are a given. But Mark and most other big CZcamsrs I watch who aren’t built to cater to each individual franchise they play for theory vids, they’re often too busy with other projects to really take a look at the lore for context. They don’t have time to view all the info needed for context. So someone being dropped into this chapter blind with very little prior knowledge won’t have a clue of what’s going on. I love how involved Mob is with their fans for this series. Their lore drops are unique and very entertaining, setting the environment of Playtime co.‘s world perfectly. But they need to somehow integrate at least a smidge of the broader strokes into their games so newcomers or casual players don’t get lost. Or they’ll loose interest.

No, you’re not getting the same in depth story experience, but that’s the point. They’re suspenseful still, and the point of the gameplay isn’t to provide lore, only to hint at it. Those who want to dig deeper can, those who don’t want to don’t have to in order to enjoy playing. Poppy playtime is a confusing mess of a game that expects the player has already done his ARG homework, otherwise the setting, names, and characters involved make no sense. Something I find odd about the plot of Poppy Playtime is that it wants you sympathize with the employees of playtime, and that the Prototype is the final boss/monster that you need to destroy. But the only thing we know about these employees (except for Stella) is that they are horrible people who abuse and torture other people, so it's hard to see the Prototype's actions as bad. In fact, it seems that the Prototype just wants to be left alone and doesn't have any intention on bothering people outside of Playtime. So what is the actual reason for the protagonist to come this far? Does he have genuine feelings for his coworkers? It's hard to tell when the protagonist is such a blank slate without any dialogue.

      @NightTheKittenn Před 2 měsíci +27

      As Poppy says, "They killed everyone. The guilty, the innocent, it didn't matter. All that death didn't fix anything."
      It's a logical assumption that the grand majority of Playtime Co. Employees had no idea what was happening behind the scenes. Regular factory workers, tour guides, etc. did not know about the bigger bodies initiative. (Why would they? There's no reason for Lieth Pierre to want Factory workers to know the company's doing human experimentation below their feet) They weren't horrible abusive people, they were just doing a job. There's also people that may have happened to be there that day to take a tour of the factory, or adopt a child (as Playcare was a functioning orphanage, we learn this from the tape about Jeremy) that had literally no hand in any of it, even indirectly. These people were massacred along with the scientists that were doing the experiments on the kids. This would be akin to, say, going into Disneyworld and slaughtering all the cast members and park guests you could find because the CEOs of the company are bad people.
      Poppy is upset that so many innocent people were murdered that day. I doubt seriously she would care as much if only the scientists had been taken out (Because I agree, fuck 'em) but the majority of people in the factory that day had no hand in what happened to them. THAT is why The Prototype's actions are bad.

    - The purpose of this chapter was to outline the Prototype's control over the toys and the distinction between those who followed him (CatNap, Miss Delight, Huggy Wuggy, etc) and those who rebelled (Poppy, Kissy Missy, DogDay, possibly others). This chapter centred entirely around CatNap, who worshipped the Prototype like a god. He wanted to keep this "church" to the Prototype sacred and to kill anyone who opposed it. And because we the player oppose the Prototype, that means us.
    - In the lore, it's explained that the Prototype was friends with the child who was put into CatNap. The Prototype specifically instructed CatNap to locate and kill the player when we entered Playcare, by any means necessary. This is why we needed to do everything we did - change the direction of the gas to bring CatNap to us, so that we could face him in a final confrontation and kill him. Because he failed in his task, the Prototype itself delivered the final blow and made him part of itself, just as it did with Mommy Longlegs.
    - Ollie explains to us during the game that CatNap stalks his prey and plays with it before killing it, just as a cat does. This is why he was following us the entire time and not actually killing us when he had the chance earlier. He wanted to make it fun for himself and wanted the chase to last. He sicked Miss Delight onto us, he drove the Smiling Critter toys into DogDay, and he even stole our mask to wear us down. This entire chapter was an almost literal maze for CatNap to stalk us in, wherein we were the mouse.
    - The reason why CatNap looked skeletal in some parts but normal in others is because of the Red Smoke. The gas is designed to cause hallucinations and nightmares, so seeing CatNap through the gas made him appear scarier than normal. This is also why some of the CatNaps at the end were not real - because we were having to do all of that while under the influence of the Red Smoke.
    I hope that clears some things up!

      Thanks for the clarification but aren’t you just proving the point Mark made at the end of the video? It’s so disconnected, you have to know all the lore and if you don’t the game is just impossible to follow and the story is lost so all you’re left with is the shit gameplay. There’s so many holes in the story too, I don’t remember ever hearing about children being shoved into the robots. Idk if I just missed it or not but it wasn’t clear. If catnap was told to kill the player and worships the prototype like some god, wouldn’t he just do it immediately and not tell the player things like “leave or I’ll kill you.” To me at least the whole story is so vague and it’s told like a garten of banban game. Piecing the story of Poppy Playtime together is not only made easier in comparison to some games (FNAF), it's actually refreshing to have it spoon fed to us in so many ways. Dialogue, if paid attention too just a little bit, reveals so much more than convoluted, enigmatic mysteries that take a community years to piece together. The game utilizes storytelling in a way that is not "show don't tell", but actively gives us all the information needed to understand the story if one can spare 3 minutes of time listening to any character talk. You don't even need to read the notes in some cases to understand what the hell is going on.

I feel that Mark would be much more "forced" to listen to Dogday, for example, if that would be a cutscene. I think the main problem is that Mark went into chapter 3 with almost no memory of the world. Chapter 3 is so so good compared to 1 and 2 but without any context a lot of the important moments fall flat. Especially because Mark didn't seem to remember the prototype from chapter 2 at all, or any of the human characters.
    Also, this is just me (an ADHD person) but Mark is acting the same way he usually does when he's not on any ADHD meds so it's possible that his brain literally isn't taking in important information. It seemed like he almost didn't process any of the dialogue at all. I'm kind of sad that he didn't get to experience it as intended.

    Alright, regarding Mark's criticism towards the end of the video I'm going to clarify a few points. The critters were killed because they were rebels against the Prototype, they were put in prison and gradually eaten as a result, which is why DogDay is half eaten. The smaller critters, which are followers of Catnap out of fear of him (DogDay mentions it) crawl into DogDay to avoid your flare gun. In regards to why Catnap looks different, it's because of the red mist the player suddenly consumes by the end of the game, which in the start they tell you that it causes heavy hallucinations, thus explaining the appearance of the main antagonist. The story could have used reminders, sure, but it's not half as bad as Mark makes it out to be here, from my perspective he just didn't pay enough attention to the game itself, resulting in such heavy confusion.

    Some clarification: the biggest thing you missed is that unlike FNAF, it is the bodies and organs of the children and former workers that get put into the toys. That's why Elliot had the dead kid's body with some organs and bones missing. So the toys have some parts of their past selves remaining. For example, CatNap's original name was Theo and as a kid, the Prototype saved his life after he stole a grab-pack and accidentally electrocuted himself. His friendship with the prototype turned into the cult-like devotion we see in the game, where CatNap kills everyone who doesn't follow the Prototype, like DogDay. DogDay and the other Smiling Critters were chained up and slowly eaten alive after the toys (which are essentially human remains fused with mechanical parts) ran out of dead bodies to eat. The little ones possess DogDay so they can't be scared off by the flare gun, and he's still alive during that sequence (you can hear him choking on them). As for the Prototype and his followers' motives, they wanted to stop the torture they were going through (children being experimented on and turned into living toys). Although I'm not entirely sure why their plan (kill everyone in the factory, ???, profit) was so. . . bad.

    I think the most unsettling thing in this whole video is the emergency broadcast. It tells everyone to hide if they can't escape, but the narration edges out and all it reads is "Open the doors now. The Hour of Joy has arrived."
    Those words were most likely what everyone read before the massacre happened. And the fact the prototype glitches the broadcast just to tell them that they're in their last hour of life is truly haunting.

And you can’t do anything about it because you don’t know anything about these creatures and then suddenly you’re dead. Nobody survived and the outside world never knew anything about the incident. The Hour of Joy killed *everyone*. Every single person that ever worked there (as far as we know) died that day, except for the player who was absent for whatever reason. There wasn't anyone to come in the next day, because everyone died during the Hour of Joy. This is literally the first time anybody is seeing the aftermath. The player is quite literally the *only person* who has seen the effects, who's lived to see the Bigger Bodies toys now after the fact. No one on the surface knows what happened. Literally no one.

    If I followed his rant at the end well enough, I believe Mark was saying that he couldn't get fully invested into the game due to the lack of it providing enough information to him. He may have a point, like the final boss battle and how they went about explaining what you need to do. While creative, it was pretty vague and full of trial and error in order for you to figure it out, which can get frustrating fast. He also said he didn't fully understand the lore enough to be invested in the overall story. This is one of those games that rewards you for exploring every nook and cranny with more lore. If you don't put in the effort to look around, you can easily miss these details. Granted, I can still see his issue with it, like the whole Miss Delight section. It's very easy to not know why she's there, or why she looks the way she does, or who Barb actually is unless you read all her notes. She may not be the biggest antagonist or obstacle in this chapter, but she still plays a part where it can get confusing fast if you don't fully understand her role in all this.
    So yes, I can get on board with what his gripe was. Because while some people who play this will do their best to uncover every secret, not everyone will want to play it that way. Mark of course didn't look for all the secrets, and while I understand that exploration can be very rewarding, I don't necessarily think it needs to make or break the story for you. As for the boss battle, I'm not sure how they could've simplified that any more. Plus, angry Mark is best Mark for me, so I'm a little torn there honestly.

    • @unclekoopus2784
      @unclekoopus2784 Před měsícem +5

      I think Mark's complaint about not knowing why CatNap is fighting us just then at the end is valid, I've seen other people not getting the reason either.
      The problem is that the game doesn't tell you directly enough what it is you're doing everything for in the chapter. You can sort of work it out at the end in the final scene that what you've been doing is diverting the smoke to power the mechanism to lift the hatch in that room in the Gas Production Zone. That is what this whole thing was for, but Mark himself looked at the hatch and was like "is this a teleporter"? "what is this thing?"
      Just imagine for a second that Ollie was clear in saying, "we need the gas to go left so that we can open the hatch and get to the cause of all of this", and/or Poppy saying clearly "we need the power back on so that we can open the hatch and get to the Prototype, CatNap won't like us doing that so he'll try to stop us at all costs."
      Bam, immediately we have context, no vague "That's how we get to him". Now we can put the pieces together as to why CatNap attacks us in the Gas Production Zone, we were just about to open the hatch to the Prototype with the intent to kill him. We're told very clearly that CatNap worships the Prototype- and now we understand that we were about to do something he doesn't want. That wasn't communicated clearly enough at all. There's so many things that could be fixed with just a little bit clearer communication, but Mascot Horror must be vague of course.
      This isn't an arthouse movie, this isn't a case of it being a good thing that the storyteller is "trusting us to put the pieces together". This a horror game for kids, Ollie's tone and his role as a hand-holdy quest-giver is enough evidence of that.
      I think some of the clunkiness of the game mechanics could be more forgiven if we have a clearly objective from the getgo and a clearer idea of our relationship with the antagonist. We miss the chance to be apprehensive about returning to the Gas Production Zone knowing that it's the place CatNap wants us not to go because we don't understand what we're doing there and why.

      @@confusedravioli2556My idea is that they could have used it in some kind of invisible tutorial to teach you how to use it effectively, even though it is common sense for most people from what I've seen.
      Maybe you have to light up a torch or something, or light up a specific spot to read something, and when you do, it lights the area around it revealing a multitude of Smiling Critters hiding in the dark that scamper away from the flare you shot in fear, signaling that they're afraid of the flares and that you'll need it for the upcoming area.
      But that's just an idea of how the mechanic could have been taught, and tbh, the rest of the game has you just use it as a light source if you can't see.

  • @SolstaceWinters
    @SolstaceWinters Před 2 měsíci +35

    The problem I see with this chapter is piss-poor game design. There's talk in the comments here about sound design and that's definitely part of it, but I just mean overall. What I'm NOT talking about are bugs and glitches, those happen and could be fixed, even if they happen a lot.
    The first big issue I see is item placement and usage, like the Gas Mask just being on a broken plank of wood, or a key you NEED to progress being hidden in a VERY plain vent (that one stumped everyone I've watched play). Items are seemingly placed weirdly and with no way of knowing that they were meant to be there. Nothing ever seemingly draws your eye to them and everything in this chapter is so amazingly dark that it's hard to see anything at all. And half the time, the Flare Gun fails to light anything up when it connects with stuff (but again, bugs are a different thing).
    The second issue stems from the first, direction. You never really have it. I mentioned it in another person's comment but the SAME number of folks I've seen struggle with that vent key in the office or finding the Gas Mask also always die at least once to CatNap before the fight with him at the end. They lose their big battery, think they dropped it, look for it, find it, attempt to pick it up, and... die to CatNap... all without realizing he's even there. Even a simple cutscene showing him leaving the door, or a forced gameplay cutscene where your fixed in place and your gaze is fixed (a little like the second nightmare with the Prototype shows up) would be stellar ways to quickly give the player a heads up that something's coming.
    The aforementioned Flare Gun is meant to be used to scare away the little Critters dolls, but you are NEVER told this EVER. Even if you "just" got the tool, there's nothing to suggest that you should use it, and you've had it for a little while now, swapping to other tools. In fact, you didn't really need it where you got it from. It would have almost made more sense to get it before going into the Playhouse since that's where you TRULY needed it.
    Furthermore, the Flare Gun, and the entire CatNap fight in general is pretty poorly telegraphed. Everyone, including Mark, seems to NOT pay any attention to the little "BEEPS" provided by anything that attempts to get their attention with them. It just doesn't work. It's too short a sound to accurately draw attention. By the time you register it, it's gone and you aren't sure where it is. And for the CatNap fight, people are looking around the spectacle they find themselves in, after that little hype moment they just had, they aren't expecting to have to walk into a chamber, do a 180-degree turn, then READ THREE SLOW-MOVING TEXT SCRAWLS!!! So they generally miss one or two, not getting the whole picture... which adds to pissing them off about the whole boss fight in general. It COULD have been something honestly cool, but it's done soooo poorly.
    ... And either make the notes easier to read, or make it more obvious that you can turn on the descriptions, because half the people I watched didn't even know you could turn em on. Maybe renaming it from "Descriptions" to "Swap Read View" would work better.
    The game really needs an Objectives Tab, and possibly at least a map for which "zone" you are currently in, if not the whole area, though that might defeat the point of it. I could live without a map, honestly, but an Objectives Tab would be nice. Maybe even a Bioshock-style way to relisten to previous audio-logs.
    Thanks for coming to my post-game rant.

      Yeah, you pretty much hit the nail on the head. I see a lot of people defending this chapter (which is understandable due to mascot-horror franchises typically drawing in very dedicated fanbases), yet none of them seem to acknowledge these poorly built elements! Yes, Mark talked over dialogue a couple times, but that doesn't excuse the other glaring critical errors that disrupt immersion. I mean, just the puzzles alone are a strange and clunky mess when placed in conjunction with horror elements and story.

    Mark’s critique was spot on.
    From my perspective, Catnap is supposed to be the primary antagonist of the chapter. Yet, he’s hardly in it. He’s built up from other characters as this insane killer who lives for the hunt, yet outside of one moment at the first area in playcare and then that other area towards the end before the bossfight, he’s not even in it. I’d argue he’s treated more like a side character and marketed as the big bad guy of the game.
    Like there should’ve been at least 1 section in this game prior to the final confrontation where we had to barely escape from Catnap, something that builds up that final confrontation. I’ll give chapter 2 this much, Mommy Long Legs was a present antagonist, she was toying with us from the start and when we broke her rules, she chose to stop playing games and hunt us. She was prevalent in the chapter, whereas Catnap wasn’t.
    Then again, to not give either of these two chapters too much credit: Fnaf is significantly better. Yeah I know shocker right? My point though is that the threat, the animatronics, they were not just prevalent in the game, they were an active threat that made you feel unsafe whenever you went to check the cameras. They were legitimately terrifying.
    And the best part about Fnaf 1, it understood what it was trying to be, a horror game. Scott understood for the horror aspect to work, that had to be the focus of the game, the story and lore that was an afterthought. The story shouldn’t be the scariest part, it should add to the horror, the horror should already be there.
    But with chapter 3, the thing that pains me the most is simple: It had so much potential. The environment looked cool the story sounded interesting and could’ve been great. But the gameplay is annoying, repetitive, and lacks explanation. This isn’t a Dark Souls game where the gameplay mechanics are simple to understand and you figure things out through exploration, this game has little to no tutorials, if Mark had not noticed that flare gun hand before he continued on, he could’ve missed that entirely… and the puzzles like Mark says they don’t make sense. From a sensible stand point there’s no rhyme or reason. The puzzles only exist just to give you something to do between the boss fights, and that’s it. They don’t blend with the world and environment around you, they stand out but for all the wrong reasons. I’m willing to overlook the admittedly ridiculous concept of those arms as it’s honestly unique. But the puzzles in this chapter are just ridiculous. Especially the ones in that house. It’s not some Jigsaw trap it’s supposed to be a house. But with the puzzles you see inside you’d think it was some un-fun overblown escape room.
    Finally, I’m sick of how cheap some the game looks, it’s not that the whole game looks bad, but the concepts and ideas that the devs clearly had with this chapter were beyond their team’s capabilities. That’s not to say they suck as devs, no far from it.
    My point is that they’re basically another Steel Wool Studios.

      @@PiterparkerYTSince Chapter 1 you are told a bit about the Red Smoke, but it isn't until Chapter 3 that you are actually given context of what it is, where it comes from, and how it works. When you actually look at every note and tape and clue that you don't miss, you are given the answers to everything. And if you do somehow miss everything, the scenes give it to you each time. In the Hoke Sweet Home sequence, the player walking through the room of red smoke without the gas mask basically immediately made the player pass out, we, as the player, were in their mind, hallucinating, and it isn't until Huggy Wuggy jumpscares us that we are taken out of the hallucination and wake up. The red smoke does not kill the player, the "death" sequences are meant to be a "you passed out" sequence and are now waking up where you left off.
      I've seen people complain hella hard about the lack of action in this chapter, and I feel like the reason for the constant walking around and puzzles was for people like you. This Chapter has more lore splattered in it than the previous 2 chapters and there's so much to explore. There would be no point and planting clues and stuff in areas where you couldn't take your time to actually find it if you're constantly in a chase sequence or heart pumping sequence. You're able to actually slow down and not only take in the environment given to you, but you are also able to find the numerous tapes and notes given to you so you can figure out the story. Again, you have your right to be confused, but when you are intentionally given leeway to explore and find the answers to your questions and concerns but bypass it or don't pay attention, then it's not on the devs, it's mainly on you, not to sound like an arsehole.

That isn't to say you couldn't make some roundabout excuse for them. You always can, in any franchise with any plothole, there's a fix. But too many and you get people like Mark feeling completely disconnected rather than totally immersed. The gameplay doesn't add to the plot, it distracts you from it. The extent to which this is the case definitely varies, but it's undeniable.

    I will also say. It’d been nice if the creators did like a recap between each chapter since they take such a long time between each chapter.

      I agree , though I think it's good they take their time instead of rushing out a sloppy product

      Tbh all games should start doing it. Gamers are gonna go play other games and getting the stories lined up without diving into hours of lore videos sucks for most gamers.

    48:40 why do these ducks remind me of the ducks from dark deception?

    40:43 has got to be my favourite part in this entire gameplay, just seeing Mark get scared of a tiny cat toy while he's faced much worse horrors throughout his history of gameplays 💀

    Lol Mark getting chased up the boxes by tiny catnap has such "cartoon character jumps onto chair screaming as mouse skitters harmlessly across the floor" vibes lol

    To be fair, the dog did explain why he was chained up. It said that the Prototype does that to any heretics that don't worship it and the tiny critters follow the prototype to avoid the same fate that DogDay got

      You mean cat nap? Cat nap is the one who is locking up the heretics, he is the one who worshiped the prototype, he made the effigy, because the prototype saved cat nap when he was human.

    Idk about yall but at the very end when poppy is showing you the video of the “hour of joy” I was absolutely shaking, it gave me heart palpitations and shook me to my core. For some reason it feels so real and is one of the most terrifying things I’ve seen in a horror game. The music sounds so retributive to begin with and then trails off to be almost regretful but still satisfied. I honestly feel nauseous and on edge after watching it. Nightmares will probably ensue. 1:38:58

    Most of Mark's problem with the "how" and "why" are completely due to a lack of recollection and not paying attention. Asking a puzzle game why there are puzzles is also a weird thing to do

      yeah i have to admit hes VERY blatantly disinterested in the game throughout this entire playthrough, i cant fully blame him as i think this game despite it having much more polish than its competitors still suffers from a lot of the gameplay issues of this genre, and i imagine its much more frustrating for somebody who plays these games for a living. definitely some of his frustrations did feel a bit unfair at times though
