It's finally happening...we've stated painting our narrowboat and it looks a LOT better! We arrive in Hopwas and moor in a lovely spot on the Coventry Canal as we head south 🌟

My Grandma lived in Branston opposite the ex army depot where apparently the chef invented Branston Pickle. !Branston is just South of Burton on Trent !

@@johnraworth8019 And my Grandfather worked at the Army depot during and shortly after WW 2 . Both sides of my Grandparents live in Burton on Trent and I lived in Lichfield before I came to live in Turkey .
for your windows with paint on - get a flat head screw driver and you can chip it off when it is totally dry - renovated a house with steel windows frames this way...easy = on the other side tape the windows off before painting - boat is looking great been waiting for you guys to do it - will make you feel so much better hey cause your boat inside is one of the best on these channels...
Boat looking good. One side that is. New water pump. And Allen got wet. What a life. Very well done. I would not take out windows unless your needing to make repairs.
Invest in “frog tape” for masking off - game changer! Also, a Stanley knife blade will scrape that paint off of the window in no time. ✌🏼

Be nice to stain/oil the wood seat at the back too. I wouldn’t do cream on top as it will show all green build up etc

Sanding is to create a KEY never sand all the way as paint was invented as a protection to porous and non porous materials. I would have thought toxic paint into the canals and local environment wasnt allowed ...i must be wrong . Your living my dream . Keep going😊

Shiny, Doing a great job, you mentioned cream on the roof i reckon that'll go well just that it might show the rain muck etc more, by the way is the window frames alloy, could you clean then lightly with a brillo pad, Irene liked Benny's shirt went well with the cheese plant in the back ground. Some task. Marine fabrications often require 3 coats. Enjoy the paint job.
The red gunwales were just wrong - it looks soo much better. A lovely bit of work.
You've probably finished it now, but if you'd like more work, perhaps paint the top rails white? The roof is a bit of a poser. Bit of a waste as most of it's covered, but let your artistry rip, do a bit whenever you feel like it ? And use some kind of tough UV proof coating to preserve it ?

Nice one guys, the painting is looking good, you must be well chuffed and the pump replacement was a success too. All these little wins will be great for overall morale.Alan will learn and will be more cautious in future. Good to see Benny harvesting wood, it would be a constant were I to be a liveaboard. 😄😄
Rust is a base (oxide). The converter is an acid. Base + acid > salt + water, the oxygen from the rust combines with the hydrogen from the acid - H2O.
It's phosphoric acid because iron phosphate (the salt) isn't soluble in water.

You're doing it right. If the paint's well attached you'd not gain anything removing it. Rub it down to key it & give it a wipe over to remove grease & dust.

Looking good already, notice you said about changing the grey at a later day, has anyone to your knowledge ever used "Raptor" paint on the roof? It's hard wearing, grippy to walk on and could be a bonus on the roof when you need to walk on it.

Nice you using Derbyshire sausage and cider mugs
While I don't know about the brand and type of paint you are using, most paints can be painted over in a specific time window without the work of sanding between coats. Not only does this save time but it actually bonds better to the earlier coat.
Love the video, have you had a look at the pressure switch on the bottom of your pump as they stick / fail..they were about £6 plus p & p and easy to change...just have to set the pressure afterwards.
Ours did the same last year, so bought a new pump but then changed the contact switch so we now have a spare.
