  • You Should Never Take a B Complex Until You See This Video - VitaLife Show Episode 254
In today's episode Dr. Janine Bowring, ND explains why you should never take a conventional B Complex Vitamin!
Most of the B complex vitamins on the market today are synthetically made, usually from the petrochemical industry.
For instance B1 is made from coal tar and ammonia, B3 is made from Formaldehyde and ammonia, and B12 cyanocobalamin, which is cyanide + cobalamin and inexpensive way to bind the B12 and get it into the body. Not something we recommend.
Some of the side effects of taking synthetic B12 vitamins include rashes from taking niacin in the synthetic form, insomnia, stomachaches, super bright yellow urine, nausea, vomiting, constipation, and diarrhea. All tell tale signs that you are ingesting a synthetic form of vitamin B.
At VitaTree we use whole food nutrients/ sources for our vitamins, and in terms of our B12 we use adenosylcobalamin a much better form of B12 that does not need the intrinsic factor. VitaTree Vitamin B12 also contains a mixture of nature’s best blue green algae Chlorella, which contains important cofactors for the best absorption of B12.

None of the alleged side effects you listed have happened to me while taking b-complex, if anything it has boosted my immunity and improved my blood count. Those side effects might happen to -- as you said -- "some people," which is fine, knowing that different bodies react differently to anything that we put into our body. But I would not go as far as to generalize things!

So I use codliver oil it is divered naturaly with d3 and omega 3 aswell as vit A , so thats three suplements naturaly contained in one pill. I pop a pinch of nutritional yeast in my mouth daily for b's. I tolerate these two methods of receiving these vitamins . The nutritional yeast gives me a noticeable boost. I have learnt the hard way that synthetic b12 is responsible for my rash (as allergic to nickel and cobalt and ‘cobalam’ is cobalt), I get insomnia, my gut gets messed up etc

Everyone is different, and I think the best advice I have heard is just to get blood work done to see if you do have a deficiency in B vitamins. People who have a deficiency… it makes sense that they need supplementation and feel better taking B-Complex, but vitamin B6 toxicity is nothing to take lightly. It’s pretty rare to get toxicity, but my diet and supplement stack was resulting in megadoses of vitamin B.
I always thought B vitamins were nothing to worry about since they are water soluble and you kidneys should just flush out whatever is not needed, but I was wrong.
RDA is around 1-2 mg of Vitamin B 6 a day.
My diet and supplement stack during toxicity:
    Everyday foods
    - 4 eggs
    - oysters
    - spinach
    - meat
    - 4 electrolyte drink per day (1mg vitamin B each)
    Supplements:
    - vitamin B complex (25mg B6)
    - ZMA (10.6 mg Vitamin B6)
    - Beef Liver pills (unknown B6 content)
    - multivitamin (10mg B6)
    - super greens shake
    - 4 electrolyte drinks (1mg B6 each)
Everyday I was eating the foods that are richest in vitamin B6, and then taking multiple different supplements that were high in vitamin B6.
After analyzing, I am figuring that I was consuming around 100mg of vitamin B6 every single day, and was not drinking enough water to help.. since they said I was dehydrated when I went to ER.
    Symptoms:
    - high anxiety
    - irritability
    - fatigue
    - weakness
    - confusion
    - pain
    - tingling/numbness hands, feet, legs
At the peak of the toxicity, my legs went numb and I could barely walk for 5 hours, which is when I went to the ER, and was one of the scariest things I have ever experienced in my life.
I had no idea what was going on, and doctors didn’t either. After research I finally stumbled upon vitamin B6 toxicity, analyzed how much I had been consuming… immediately got bloodwork and found my levels to be super high.
Super scary stuff to experience. Most people don’t have to worry about it getting this extreme. My diet, supplement stack, and hydration were probably an extreme.

I am doing much much better.
2-3 days out the worst of it was gone atleast for me, but I still experience random pain in my legs. I have heard of some people getting worse symptoms during the 1-6 months after stopping vitamin B supplementation (recoil”).
I am not sure if I have nerve damage, but at the peak of the toxicity it was really bad with anxiety, confusion, and the numbness in my legs. They say about 6+ months to fully recover, and some can have it worse than others.
I stopped all supplementation except for fish oil and probiotic. I have been trying to drink 3 liters of water a day, along with Sauna, and exercise to detox.
Also I am pretty cautious about consuming foods with high B vitamins at least for awhile, but again don’t think food is a concern, just supplementation.
For me, I am just really relieved that I understand the reason for my symptoms and that I am feeling much better. Not knowing why the symptoms are occurring was the worst part.
I feel that I have always had some of the more mild symptoms the last couple years, but had no idea why.

Scaremongering! A molecule is a molecule, however it is made. Natural vitamins are best, but not absolutely essential. They can be replaced with synthetic (lab made) just fine, except for a few cases. Notably vitamin b12 and folic acid. Synthetic versions of these 2 will work, but require conversion in the body. They have to be methylated first, and that takes metabolic resources. Since methylation is often poor in many people, to be forced to methylate synthetic folic acid and cyanocobalamin (b12) will take a toll. You're best off taking natural vitamins in this particular case. But for the other B's it's not much of a problem taking synthetic versions.

@@allheartandsong vit b2 WILL make your pee yellow. The kindneys pee out the excess. The problem with most over the counter b vitamins is that they are usually too high of a dose for otherwise healthy people who eat meat. Plus if they take unmethylated b vitamins they will deplete their methyl doners and this will eventually cause downstream problems.

VitaTree Vitamin B12 is a specialized form of B12 that is called adenosylcobalamin plus a mixture nature’s best blue green algae Chlorella, which contains important cofactors for the best absorption of B12. Vitamin B12 is important for energy production in the cell and is needed for carbohydrate, fat and protein metabolism. It is also required for healthy production of red blood cells. B12 deficiency is extremely common, especially in people who do not consume a lot of meat, those who lack stomach acid and have poor digestion, people with gluten sensitivity and for those who take certain medications like antacids.

If i take it in pill form, or powder, or even liquid form, I've tried them all because im not particularly fond of injections, never did anything to raise my b12 levels. I think it must have something to do with our entire digestive system because I don't absorb pills very well, they mainly just make me puke and give me gut cramps.
