Italy only conceded 2 goals in the 2006 world cup, the lowest amount ever.
One of these goals was an own goal and the other was a penalty.
That means they scored an own goal and conceded a pen. Pretty bad imo smh 🤦♂️
@@dimitri7851 conceding two goals on a world cup is pretty bad for you?!? Imagine calling Zambrotta, Nesta, Cannavaro, Buffon, Maldini, Chiellini pretty bad. Lol you are lost
@@agem1989 woosh
@@dimitri7851 actually the pen and the own goal were the fault of two subs, one of them being materazzi
@@dimitri7851 dude, what? They didn’t allow a single goal from open play. And I hate that Italian team specifically. But credit, where credit is due. When they beat France in the final I was devastated.
Maicon, Lucio, Samuel and Zanetti should be in this list
It was actually Chivu the left back. Zanetti played dmf.
Jj Cuz no jose is right
Mid field had
Thiago motta cambiasso zanetti sneijder
Etoo run the entire field and milito closed the deal
Stankovic pandev big role players
Chivu was mostly starting 11
Nah, he hates mourinho this scrub would never put em on this vid
Zanetti played in midfield by that time so it doesn't count. Chivu at LB was OK but not unbelievable
Why? Neville-Vidic-Ferdinand-Evra were better unit, when you look the longevity and the results they made.
the absence of chelsea's back four that conceded 15 GOALS in 38 games in 04/05 is shocking
Jacob Salter ikr, it makes me feel so sad 😢
He was quite generous with milan featuring twice. Imo stam, nesta, maldini and cafu combination shouldn't be there as even thought each one of them was truly world class and each one of them has a cabinet full of medals but they didn't win major honors together. Instead the Chelsea or man utd back four should definitely be among the top 7.
It’s not that hard when you have makelele in front of you
@@riyadinho6795 it is still hard. It hasn't been repeated, that shows how hard it is.

Phil Jones Chris smalling Valencia young 😂😂😂😂😂

Glenn Johnson was one of the best right backs at his time
Maldini Baresi Nesta Cafu
This is the best back four you can make.
Jorge Rodriguez beckenbauer instead baresi
Beckenbour didn't play with any of them ut the others played together in AC Milan
Maldini, Nesta and Cafu played together at AC Milan, Adham, and Baresi played alongside Maldini, but Nesta and Cafu never played with Baresi, both a good 5/6 years too late for that.
@@hughjazz6300 too many of them
@@HITCSevens Yeah, what am saying is that: imagine Baresi playing with Cafu, Nesta and Maldini. That would be amazing, and for me that would be the best four back you can make.
I think you nailed #1, no matter which way you slice it, Baresi and Maldini are two of the top 5 defenders who have ever lived
Ed Dixon I would Franz beckenbauer
Two of the top 3 it just depends on the situation where they’re in. Beckenbaur, Maldini and Baresi all have their own qualities.

I was surprised when mourinho’s picture popped up, because he never has a back 4 he has a back 11
Kartik Vaish W
Aavish Riaz Calm down. Isn’t it obvious I’m talking about current Mourinho? When he came in 2003 to Chelsea he was arguably the greatest manager at that time. But now? when we won the league with him again, there was no denying he played Park The Bus. Although I was happy we won the league, it was not the Chelsea way. And look at him at United now. Screaming and abusing me won’t make you any more right.
Kartik Vaish the season we won the title we played great football even hazard said that I’m not screaming I’m just stating the point that you are a disrespectful twat that’s all mate
Aavish Riaz Oh wow, so cuz hazard says so it’s true. You think when he’s in mourinho’s good books, he would be willing to criticise his football. Explain why then if we were playing such “great” football, he wanted to leave for Real in the July transfer window right after that season. I’m not being disrespectful, I’m a huge Chelsea fan. It’s just that my opinion is different.
sick bants
2006WC winning Italian back 4, lead by cannavaro??
A very solid unit but individually not perfect. Grosso hardly a star and Materazzi was no Maldini.
Wouldnt it be Zambrotta, Canavarro, Nesta, Grosso?
Brandon Moorhouse nesta was injured
Nesta got injured in the third group game, was subbed off and didn't play at all in the knockout rounds. Scared the crap outta me because every time Nesta got injured (98 WC and 02 WC) Italy got eliminated. But yeah, I agree with video uploader that Grosso and Materazzi weren't that great. And this coming from a huge fan of Italian football.
@@Pirelli913 to be honest, Materazzi was their biggest offensive threat thanks to his headers
One of the best lists you've done! Great work Sevens
Cheers!
honarable mention: Carvalho,Ferreira,Costa,Valente were beasts in 03-04, leading Porto to a Champions League title.
I'm really glad you included 2004 Greece among those defensive legends. Everybody here in Greece remembers only Nikopolidis (keeper), Zagorakis (captain) and Charisteas (forward) from those epic days. However, if you watch carefully the Euro 2004 matches of Greece, you will notice Michail Kapsis' magnificence. He did incredible things. If every match of his career was like these, we would consider him as one of the greatest center backs of all time. Kapsis. What a defender he was!
They always leave out the obvious lol
Italy 2002 and 2006
Maldini, Zambrotta, Nesta, Cannavaro,
true but even that setup wont rival the defensive partnership of baresi and maldini
Maldini wasn't playing for Italy in 2006 you fake ass fan
Tassotti, Costacurta, Baresi and Maldini also contributed to Milan going 58 games unbeaten in Serie A.

Back four of Alves, Puyol, Piqué and Abidal not Even considered in honorable mentions? Smh
LOL there are so many better than them
Puyol alone deserves a place though. Without him Barca couldn't have won those three Chamoions Leagues.

Thanks Kene.
My favorite back four in my life time are Barcas: Abidal-Pique-Puyol-Alves with Marquez rotating
Pique is a fine player but he is never a world class defender.
Puyol has a hunch back to this day from carrying him
Bayern 16/17: Lahm, Boateng, Hummels, Alaba
Wow, you nailed it. When I saw the vid I thought I Hope he picks that Milan back four. Well done.
Italy in the early 80’s had Gentile, Cabrini, Scriea, Baresi and a few others. Forwards really used to have nightmares facing that defence. They were hard and dirty too.
Best Midfield Trios
The United back 4 should have made top 4 they dominated the prem for time

Trashed two times by Guardiola
Ashley Young. Phil Jones. Chris Smalling. Luke Shaw. Unbeatable
Ridiculous to not include them. They had 3 of the best 4 defenders in the world at their peak
I Don't know. I prefer the treble winning United backline Stam, Irwin and Neville was at the top of his game.

Atletico's Filipe Luiz, Jose Gimenez, Diego Goldin and Juanfran.
And
Juventus's Alex Sandro, Giorgio Chiellini, Leonardo Bonucci and Dani Alves.
Tottenham and Juve? No, but NO
Robertson, Van Dijk, Matip, Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Totally agree with number 1
The #1 spot cannot be debated. The sheer number of trophies and clean sheets is simply mind boggling. Too bad Italy lost on penalties in 94, so those legends never won a World Cup, although came as close as you can get.
Baresi won in 1982
Celtic 1967 back line changed football forever

Good list. The french quartet normally doesn't get enough praise, but were one of the best i have seen
Yes. In fact, this big 4 played a vital role in WC 1998, not Zidane.
In the final, the unstoppable strikers Brazil faced the immovable back four.
Nigel Winterburn, Tony Adams, Martin Keown, Lee Dixon, thank you very much.
before watching it is the Milan back four of 1989 : Maldini, Berasi, Dessoti, Costacorta
Just because varane carvajal Ramos and Marcelo are recent u didnt put them in, it doesn’t make sense to not put them in, they won 3 champions leagues in a row ffs what more can they do- as well as varane winning the World Cup whilst being there and Ramos has been in Toty every year now for a while. Explain why they didn’t make it in please +Hitc Sevens
Lewis Williams they are all amazing individuals but weren’t really that amazing as a unit... yes they won three UCL’s in a row but it was mainly due to the team’s attacking ability instead of their defense
@@adhamkhaled9174 facts
Because that back four (who are excellent, hence why they were mentioned) didn't win those things on their own. A midfield of Casemiro, Kroos and Modric, along with Cristiano Ronaldo up top helped a bit as well. The same way we don't think Keylor Navas is among the greatest goalkeepers of all time, despite him having the same achievements as those you mention.
I do believe that back four with pepe was better than with varane, pepe is probably the most underrated center back in recent history
it takes a team to win those trophies, marcelo and carvajal are crucial attackers especially the ronaldo and marcelo pairing. Ramos is arguably the best center back right now and the top 5 in the past 5 years. He is also unique that because he is one of the few center backs that attacks (lets not forget about that bicycle kick). Varane was an integral part of the world cup winning side and its because of his consistency that allowed the real madrid defense to be consistent.
Pound for pound that Milan back four is the best!
Ferrer, Nadal, Koeman and Sergi Barjuan (Barcelona 93/95)
Dixon, Adams, Keown and Winterburn (Arsenal 94/99)
Alves, Puyol, Piqué and Abidal (Barcelona 08/13)
BTW, Ajax formed in 94/95 with Reiziger, Blind, Frank De Boer and Bogarde defending; Rijkaard, Davids and Ronald De Boer in the midfield, Finidi and Overmars as wings and Litmanen as a striker. Sometimes, Seedorf, Kluivert or Hoekstra could play and modify the general design, moving from a 4-3-3 to a 3-4-3 and occasionally a 4-4-2.
Dixon Adams Bould Winterburn 88-98 Keown was generally the stand in for this back 4 from 93 onwards
Pique Puyol Alves Abidal?????

@@kostadindimitrov864 Agreed. In my opinion Maldini is easily in the top 10 best football players of all time.
I think in a few years people will look at Liverpool’s defense as one of the best in the world. They’ve only gave up three goals the premier league season and since their loss in October to Tottenham they have had the goals scored against. The hole back four of Liverpool is young and they are only going to get better. Gomes, van dike, Robertson, and Trent Alexander Arnold are the future

Abidal Pique Puyol Alves are easily top 10 greatest back 4’s.They should have been included as honoroble mentions as they have won a sixtuple in 2009
What about Man Utd back 4 of 1999: G. Neville, Stam, Johnsen and Irwin. From the Treble winning squad.
Come on Kerfa Adu! They were a decent and solid back 4 but they were nowhere near ranked amongst the very best back four's of all time. Especially if you took Stam out of that four.
Stop looking at only stam. Look at them as a unit because their won the treble and that should of put them at the top 5 at most.
Not really. The main reason they won the treble was because of they great midfield they had and the telepathic partnership of Yorke and Cole. Well that and Sir Alex instilled in them a never say die attitude and the ferocious will to win of Keane. The back four as a unit were very solid but they were no means one of the greatest back fours.
I never said the defensive players are the main reason why their won the treble. I know the midfield 4 of Beckham, Keane, Scholes and Giggs. Was a major part in winning the treble. Also the attacking partnership of Cole and Yorke played their part. You can’t dismiss the defence because most teams couldn’t stop United from attacking. How defenders could of work with Sir Alex Ferguson style of football.
Kerfa Adu lots of better back 4's have won the treble and not made this list.

They Call Me Sully Celtic maybe after a few years, because they would have a lot of money because all of Ireland and a lot of Scotland follow them
I actually think this wouldn't be a bad idea
Evra, Vidic, Ferdinand, Neville for me. Along with Van Der Saar they hold the record for longest period of consecutive football without conceding, as well as conceding the least goals of any champions league finalist ever. Can't knock that solidity
Can you tell us the actual score at the end of each denfense/trio/ midfield
Sry but the Real Madrid backline winning 4 CL titels has to be at least in the Top 7!
The Greek back four has individual talend as well!!!Dont forget that Seitaridis(right back was part of Panathinaikos team who beat Juventus, draw against United(with his goal), won against Arsenal, Porto, Barcelona and more during his 3 years at the club and unfortunately he has many many injuries the later years(Funnily he was quickly sold by Panathinaikos after the first few Euro's games because they were afraid what would happen against Zidane or the Chechs lol)
Fyssas was the right back of Panathinaikos in those successful times as well!!!
Kapsis and Dellas were decent as well!!They were part of the Aek team that were able to draw 6 out of 6 Champions League games!!!(Real Madrid, Roma and Genk!!!)
They are not well known as some other defensive units that were accompanied by great midfilders and great managers with tactics but they were quite underated!!!!
I know that you propably have forget about "the rest of Europe" but if we exclude the corruption in Greek Superleague the Greek team were above average in 2000-2004!!!!
They had collected so many points that Greece were able to have 3 teams in group stages in 2003/2004!!!!(More than Germany, Holland, Scotland and Portugal, as many as France and England and just one less than Spain and Italy!!!!!)
Unfortunately then Panathinaikos was destroyed mentally because of a holigan event(Olympiakos' "fans"(paid missonaries) punched, kicked and more the team of Panathinaikos before a derby) that has as a result lots of his players leaving the club(+those that were sold after the Euro)
Greece has good units(Manolas , Socratis for example nowadays) but corruption has let them down lots of times
Hi Steven, I wasn't suggesting they were poor players by any means, just man-for-man they are obviously inferior to a quartet like Lizarazu, Blanc, Desailly & Thuram.
Well explained

If we consider the fact that this back four kept a clean sheet against Zidane and Henry while the other 3(Desaily was not active in 2004) conseed a goal from Charisteas...

What about Alex Sandro, Bonnuci, Chilleni, and Alves?..
Can’t argue with 2006 Italy. Think Chelsea/United/Madrid back fours mentioned in the video are all nuts as well.
Alaba, boateng, hummels and lahm!!!
Made our shortlist, but only spent one season together, which was Lahm's final season, Alaba & Boateng both poorer than in previous seasons, and Bayern conceded more goals than they had in the 2 seasons before that (22 goals conceded, compared to 17 in 15-16 and 18 in 14-15), so couldn't make top 7.
