From Brazil's two-time World Cup winning midfielder Didi to the 'Gentle Giant' John Charles, HITC Sevens takes a look at some of the most complete players in football / soccer history.
Ruud gullit started as a cb at Haarlem and PSV, but later played as a central midfielder and even a striker at Milan, and as a second striker. Back at Chelsea he played cb again, i think he should have been included in the top 7
He didn't score much goals but the quality of his goals surely proves that he could have played as a striker too....as right back he was one the best and under pep he had played as a midfielder. He passing and composure on the ball was second to none and perfect in tackles.....I mean what you want in a complete player.Because of his position(wing back) and he played in Bundesliga people forget how great he was.
Hi fellas, I have done the 7 greatest footballers to never win a major trophy, which sounds like what you might be after. Can watch that here if so: czcams.com/video/AAwDt2u_D7k/video.html (Warning: It was when I first started, so I apologise for the quality and my commentary style...)
The fact that James Milner wasn't mentioned at all is a bit of a travesty. The man's played nearly every position on the pitch at a Premier League level for the last 10-15 years
he literally started the video by saying he's talking about competent players. milner is an average player at all positions. to sum up milner, he is a jack of all trades, but a master of none. the people in this list are masters of different positions
So? winning the champions league doesn't mean you aren't an average player. he was a super important player for liverpool this season, but that doesn't mean he isn't an average player. Giroud won the World Cup with France and the Europa league with Chelsea, does that make him an exceptional CF? Is he as good as Aguero or Lewandowski? I hate using Giroud as an example because his hold up play is great, but he isn't a CF to scream about in terms of his individual ability bar his hold up play
James Milner should get a shout here, Left back, Right back, Centre mid, Attacking Midfield, Right Winger, Left winger and Centre forward And he's played most of those positions at an elite level
I know Gerrard wasn't as good as most of the guys in the 7, but unlike all of them, he literally had no weaknesses other than his temper. Aerial threat One of the best passers in the world (long and short) - when at Liverpool, his passing was clearly better than even Xabi Alonso's Defensive juggernaut with exceptionally good tackles and very good interceptions One of the most athletic midfielders to have ever played Creative spark - huge number of assists Goal threat and set piece taker - 2nd highest scoring CM in the EPL and UCL (if we include European cup continuity then he ranks 6th) World class dribbler - i still remember the goal he scored against Man Utd where he dribbled past Rafael, Vidic, Ferdinand Excellent reader of the game Tactically astute Captaincy/leadership His strengths weren't at the heady heights of say Becks defending or Scholes' passing, but he was world class in pretty much every attribute of the game. He even played every position on the pitch except GK at some point in his career. He ended his career as a CDM. Started it as a winger (for both flanks) and spent most of his career as a CAM/B-t-B, filled in at CB and both fullback positions in UCL games I can't help but feel you've overlooked him. I wouldn't place him highly on the 7, but i would certainly put him 6th or 7th *Furthermore, i can't help but feel Roy Keane, Graeme Souness, Paolo Maldini and Philip Lahm have been very hard done by for not even getting an honourable mention*
This channel does top 7 not 11,but I'll try making one for you(I assume hungaria to be part of the balkans) Handanovic Popescu vasovic ivkovic Cajkovski Vukas Bozsik stojkovic dzajic Hagi puskas
@@alexostin2944 I think you should add the Greek Antoniadis. The one that made Panathinaikos to the final of 1970. +Domazos.(Hungary does not count as Balkan)
For me the most complete midfielder in terms of ability was Yaya Toure. Pace , strength , agility , balance , reactions , dribbling , long and short passing , finishing , long shot, shot power , freekicks , headers , attacking and defensive positioning , vision , tackles , interceptions , crossing , you name it , he's got it. Wayne Rooney also.
Nice one, a video I've waited a while for. On a similar vein, it'd be good to see: 7 Greatest Utility Men (similar to this, but focusing more on the breadth of positions played, rather than sheer quality). 7 Players Who Changed Position During Their Career (Gareth Bale being a good modern example) 7 Players Who Were World Class In Two Positions (John Charles obviously, Marcel Desailly and Philip Lahm more recently. Similar to this video but I'm sure you could find enough difference).
im surprised both Messi and Milner missed out, Messi could play almost anywhere from cm forward and Milner has proved he could put in a shift literally anywhere
Messi is too small to play defense and usually doesn't track back to help defending. Ronaldo often did and played at midfield number 10 role at Inter so I think he should have been in there. Especially since he was pretty big, but agile, fast and a great balance.
I guess Javier Zanetti and Michael Essien deserve a shout, both could play every position, except striker, on the pitch. Also, both were very good on long shoots, long and short passes, crosses etc
have you ever done a video on this topic but not regard to playing positions but the ability of passing and scoring with both feet, scoring with the head and free kicks combined and also with great stamina and speed on the pitch?
I know people overrate him a bit, but Virgil Van Dijk is actually a decent shout (probably not top 7 though). Tall, strong, fast, can ping a ball, elite defender, good in the air, knows how to score. What more do you need?
Duncan Edwards was the most complete footballer of all time. One has to respect the opinions of those that saw him.. And if you do, this statement becomes more true. The only player to be an international at age 17 and start in midfield, be put up front to grab a goal and then be put at center back to defend a lead, all in one game. Unfortunately he was killed at age 21, but let's be historically accurate.
Saul was a good inclusion. Played on both wings, cam, cm, cdm, cb, rb, lb for Atletico. Played second striker and striker too while on loan from atleti.
Rio Ferdinand was a CM when he started his career, and was moved to CB. With and without the ball he was superb. He can pass, tackle, shoot, dribble... he should have been in the honourable mentions
Some ideas: 1. top 7 European Cup/Champions' League winners . 2. top 7 teams NOT to win the European Cup/CL . 3. top 7 German players of all-time (Brazilian, Italian, English or British, etc).
Come on, Ruud Gullit literaly played in every position from centre back to forward, he deserves more than an honourable mention, maybe even 1st place!!!
My modern 7: Lahm (could play either side of full back, defend and attack) Mascherano (can play midfield and defence, can pass well) Giggs (could play anywhere in attacking areas), Milner (midfield defence or even keeper, could passer) Cambiasso (midfield left right or middle), CR7 (no reason needed), Henry (great at assists, can play wide or middle)
Where is Steve Nicol won footballer of the year in 1989. He played most of that season at centre half covering Alan Hansen who was injured for around 6 months. The only positions he never played for Liverpool was goalkeeper outstanding one of the most underrated players of all time. Two footed powerful in the air could tackle like Graeme Souness and finish like Ian Rush.
Koeman played in both defence and midfield and scored over 200 goals in his career mostly from cb, which is more than most strikers , Lahm could play all across the back 4 and in midfield and despite not having the best offensive abilites, he would have been more than capable playing up top, considering his reading of the game and his technical abilities
Ruud gullit started as a cb at Haarlem and PSV, but later played as a central midfielder and even a striker at Milan, and as a second striker. Back at Chelsea he played cb again, i think he should have been included in the top 7

True. But he really should have caught the ball rather than swatting it. Gave up a bad rebound.

James Milner should at least be a honourable mention
