yaki mention at 1:38, this could be an unbeatable record
chris' mic and camera already out of sync, this episode has top 1 potential.
We getting a Yaki mention leaderboard right?
we’ll have to see the speed running committee accepts this run, wasn’t a natural conversation mention, but a forced one.
thank you🙏
Im convinced that the operating budget for the entirety of OWCS, wouldn’t be able to afford to run a single Season 1 OWL team.
Honestly you are almost certainly right
That’s just how it is. It’s gotta be rebuilt from the ground up.
And here again we have four bright young men with loads of ambition, competence, and ability to speak, coming together for their 19th week in a row to discuss overwatch esports
0:29:44 Fully agree with Avrl that it's just impossible as a casual viewer to follow these games. Even as someone who's watched OWL for years, I find myself just looking for results on twitter because it's way too much effort to go searching for individual POVs during the matches
Holy yappington 4 hours
I'm loving the trend of the episodes getting longer!
The podcast is getting 2 hours longer every 20 episodes can't wait for the episode 220 24 hour special
I'm all for it
27:10 Peps had a few thousand veiwer with Poko doing watchparty, it was very hype seeing them take 2 map to ENCE
AVRL’s podcast aura is so powerful I forgot this wasn’t his main podcast
I'm sorry for the competitors but rolling EMEA and NA into one product is one of the best decisions they've made in this new system. Im one of those losers who still watched OWL the last couple seasons and even i wouldnt have been watching NA if it wasnt immediately after EU
yeah they're targeting viewers of convenience who watch something only cus it's put in front of them
In spite of the accusations of perhaps lack of empathy, I really think that Chris is the HEART of the show. Bro cares and is passionate.
they should put Chris in charge of the broadcast for EMEA/NA
we should start scripting OWCS matches like its WWE
Sure Nekkra might be more energetic/fun than Avrl but does she even play overwatch or follow any overwatch at all when she's not being paid to do so? It doesn't seem like it by listening her cast. She seems like the biggest sweetheart so I feel bad that casting Pokemon regionals are 4/days per month max (with a lot of travelling too) because I think she fits that role perfectly.
People like Custa and AVRL have the passion for overwatch, they care, they put in effort to follow the game (and the scene) a lot in their free time. I was actually shocked that AVRL kept track of contenders so much even when he was employed (or at least it seemed like it). It's obvious that passion/knowledge for the game was not their #1 hiring criteria (assuming that everyone involved requested approximately the same salary/pay).
I guess I'm closer to hardcore viewer (like AVRL said) so that's a bias of mine, just like a lot of redditors.
bless my chungus life
No one is going to beat the Yaki record. This record could live on for years
Gone next week
What Christfer is talking about at ~ 2:51:00 reminds about how in the FGC they will talk about head-to-heads in terms of matchups
Where one character will tend to win 7 games out of 10, because in fighting games they will frequently play in sets of many games of many rounds. So you can see played our in front of you how a person who is better than another will lose a few rounds or a few sets but will usually win more.
I generally think while other sports or games are team-based head-to-heads can always be represented more as a matchup, as some ratio
Chris should give his players a weekly reward for whoever gives the best trash talk during a match or even on socials. incentivize it
Avral is the goat guest
Capitology my goat 🐐
My jaw dropped to see him get his own section LOL
The quiz might be the best part but whenever I hear genji is with you I know my second favourite part is on the way
1:10:00 I think what avrl says about you can only shit talk while winning is definitely true. I remember in season 2 people hated super because he used to shit talk and reddit called him racist cuz he called the titans 'ugly sloppy players' but that all kinda went away when shock started winning.
THEY GOT AVRL
“overwatch…still a fucking crippled product which no one in their right mind would watch over another esport.” Chris! What an indictment!
The Goat Avrl.
shoutout to unter the prop comic 3:06:50
The yappocalypse is here... 💀😩
I agree with Chris in regards to the Swiss stage. I never watch anyone on Overwashed, but I was really excited to watch them play Swiss.
Not lying about saudi fans, during world cup i got so many death threats for just rooting for the opposite team
53:00 ( general section) I personally think the Asian broadcast talent is significantly better, the casters are much more enjoyable to listen to, they feel like real people who actually understand the game, they criticise bad plays and commentate with proper discussion. While I’ve seen many plays in na and EMEA where the casters just don’t want to be negative at all and it feels like they just glaze everyone even when they play like complete shit. The Korean casters feel more genuine and I actually enjoy listening to almost all of them( especially ninek and unknown)
you are not wrong. But the language barrier thing is true, too. I think Gclef and Unknown are fine, but NineK is really hard to understand sometimes. And yeah, we all love the guy, but ...
So when are we getting capitology on uncoachable
who is that guy even?
"is the price barrier really that prohibitive for faceit league?". all of those discord leagues that you mentioned are free and have dozens of teams with heavy moderation against smurfing, casted matches, etc. All for free. Average age of these leagues is probably 20 or below, not a demo with much expendable income. and again, even with expendable income, these leagues do the job for free and offer more. I don't see unique niche that faceit is trying to fill, this seems like an already solved problem.
the sub to patreon to cancel us bit was inspired 😂
What a lot of people don't realize is that what we have is contenders with a bit of extra money. People were begging for this. Also, contenders did tend not to stream some matches. Especially on Day 1 and 2
People love to complain but the views speaks for it'self
Can we get the Press Q live link?!
Thanks!
29:20 Holy yapp, Swiss is very popular
Haven’t watched yet but I love seeing avrl
I like over heads ,povs, and I wish I could hear every callout
As someone that got into the game after the switch to 5v5, the only reason i started watching overwatch esport is because streamer teams got into owcs. I dont know who kevster or kai are, and I never saw them stream - sometimes their names show up in some gm ranked games, thats it. Why should i care about whether two guys i dont even know the faces of win a tournament against a bunch of other faceless players? Like you said, sports is always about emotions (of which shittalking and getting mad definitely is a part of). Coming from counterstrike, retired pros are so popular that they can just stream fulltime after quitting and still live comfortably. When it comes to overwatch, half of the players dont have a picture on liquipedia and I cant find anything about them.
I think FACEIT League promotion has been severely lacking - and they only seem to be promoting it to a small audience. Genuinely think the only way they are going to drive reasonable sign-ups is if the main OW accounts (talking the playoverwatch accounts, not OW Esports etc.) promote on socials and in an ideal world in game. OW's esports scene in general has always felt really detached from the core game to me, the closest we ever got was around the 2023 World Cup with the splash screen and shop bundle, and then very infrequently some mention of OWL in some forgotten part of the menu. Until they change their approach I don't see how they get the average OW player invested or even just initially intrigued.
Watching this while shitting on the toilet 💯💯
I cant believe they had the king of korean contenders on and didnt make the quiz like name every player who won kr contenders smh
I can say as someone who doesn't go on reddit or usually comment on Overwatch in general. I have stopped watching the official broadcasts and started watching watch parties instead because they are more knowledgeable about the game and aren't just stating the obvious.
I thought Mag being prohibited to compete in EMEA made sense, but I was also confused by spectra not being allowed because I thought he was on M80 playing in NA. At the same time I was confused by TM being allowed to sign Kellan and vigilante since they were in the same boat as Mag
spectra was allowed, no idea why he wasn't on the team
Spectra was allowed but he would only join if Mag joined.
Kellad and vigi are signed but theye cant play unti after roster lock ends
We need someone to track the minutes chris yapps in each episode!
AVRL was thinking of Frankie
Unc-oachable
i feel like Unter is actually cooking with the top 8 auto qualify and the swiss is just for 9-16. am i missing something obvious for why it's a bad idea?
anyone see jaynes new transition LOL, "sarah invented esports" now
Do you guys think the viability of OW Faceit competition would be stronger if they let more teams "keep playing"? Like FaceIt already places every team at the end of swiss stage. The Top 16 are the only ones that move on, rightfully so, with prize pool/broadcast. Why not keep doing that but also run brackets for teams 17 - 50 or 51-100? No broadcast, maybe a buy in entry fee to fund prize pool then go on to play in their own semi casual beer leagues against the other teams in your tier. So even if you're gonna get smashed by a top team, you'll still keep playing and have a reason outside of comp. It seems that's what they're trying to do but why not attach it more with the blizzard product?
cool series. good talking points. owcs doomed to have shit coverage tbh, very sad but at least theres some good banter to watch on here
YAKI!
Yo, CGL mention!
I get the ufo thing
LOL this is great
For how many times they have said it, I don't think they ever done it 10:20
sp9rk1e making the world cup team is funnier when you know he was booster but no one cares that he did it at this point
Esports is definitely a ground up thing. Just look at Smash Bros.
They are happy if they made enough money to pay for petrol and the Nintendo thugs didn't turn up and take a bat to their GameCubes.
Hitler referenced at 1:19:14
blinkertonow approved.
"need to get emongg to promote faceit" nice pred avrl
but AVRL the real goat
T
What is Unter drinking there? Don't tell me you drink Budweiser man...
Unter goat
keep doing 4 hours
EXO team is the best at virtue signaling and hypocrisy. I think they want to be the righteous but they come off as manipulative hypocrites. I just feel bad for their current players and I hope they do will next stage.
I hope their players leave, fuck Exo.
Why did Unter say that choosing Custa/Jaws over Nekkra/Lemonkiwi was an appeal to tradition? Super weird comment, again
All the money has gone on terrible casting and pronouns under the players names
WDG are a joke, honestly. They've made poor decision after poor decision after poor decision
AVRL IS SO FUCKING BORING DUDE
Thanks!
