Listening to the talk about the casting quality was cathartic as fuck. Felt that way for a long time but didn't see it expressed really anywhere (I use twitter but no reddit)
You don't see it expressed on Reddit because the mods have a policy to remove comments criticizing casters.

I personally haven't been the most interested in the interviews outside a few but i do get the appeal
But everything else has been consistently fire

its so refreshing to hear someone not be afraid to give deserved criticism. Mr X is totally complacent and it's always reflected in his cast, he is carried wholly by Uber. Nekkra doesn't know anything about the game, and doesn't even speak eloquently. She will often stutter and make dead end remarks. HOW do you have poor knowledge of the game, AND subpar presentation abilities, but still land this job? Even more heinous when you consider who was omitted.

I someone who watches every PlatChat episode mostly just to have something playing on my long drive home from work and hear any OW news. I agree with what was said about PlatChat on this podcast 😂 I like Avril and sometimes Jake but everyone else is just like League shills who are NOT truly being themselves because they have to be overly professional. I think a chunk of the OW scene pretend to be nicer then they truly are because this community is so soft and sensitive.

I'm so glad the terrible casting talent was addressed in this episode. I feel like nobody's been talking about it, even though these terrible casters (we all know who they are) have been around for multiple years at this point.

2:52:44 I totally agree. Like sure they’re fun personalities… but for Danny, I feel like he doesn’t know anything specific about the game. His words are kinda empty. He kinda just says things to say things. He’s a good guy but IMO if you’re on the desk for an esport you should know WAYYY more
What I feel a lot of people forget/weren't around for is that Reinforce was on the desk for S1 then got dropped for the start of S2 as they higher ups thought the desk was too analytical, and so he wasn't needed. So there is precedent that the desk needs to be more goofy in a way. I don't agree with that stance but we've been there before. It might have had something to do with how they were on Disney at that time, so the viewers were more casuals.

100 percent agree with your takes on some of the casters. I don’t want people to lose their jobs, but a lot more will lose their jobs if OWCS fails. There are better people out there so why aren’t we with them?

im with gunba so heavy like danny is fuckign horrible at his job, bros been nervously stuttering through every broadcast and "interview" hes been apart of for the last 4 years and he has zero idea about any part of the game, hes just around for vibes but any other broadcast talent does what he does immensely better LMAO
He has been around largely to do interviews as well considering 90% of the league was Korean
I just cannot work out if i love or hate gunba. Every time i listen to him i get this feeling. I dont think anyone else in the world talks the way he does
Edit: I’ve listened to the whole episode and my decision is I love him. Finally someone with the balls to speak their mind and actually has the expertise to back it up. Really a breath of fresh air listening to him.

As someone who plays in and runs amateur tournaments in OCE, the player base and interest is there to a degree, but no one is going to pay unfortunately and I doubt anyone will sign up that aren't looking to play pro. It really sucks cause I think it has the potential to be great

Observing to large audience is actually skill that you can never be too good at. People want to see POVs but you should also show overview when it makes sense. Then you should view the correct player when ults are being used or dive or whatever is happening, like predict what is going to happen. In CS the best are very good at this, but I think in OW there is still a lot to improve.

With the cultural thing in Korea I’ve heard that in ranked it’s almost customary to mirror the other tank and not try to counter swap, maybe an honour thing, but it means that the players become extremely skilled mechanically but not incredible tactically.
Really nice content. I'm french and I miss having a "real cast team" in my own language which was good and fun to watch when Eternal was still Paris. (now we have co-stream but less qualitative). I agree that no one really cares about swiss rounds. They should have given more time in the final stages. Not having all the matches at the same hour. The format stage for top16 to top8 was also not very interesting; just to see twice the same confrontation.
What did hex do? Is there something im missing, i know that one apac cast where he completely shit the bed but is there any more?
Oh lord commanderX is never gonna get the caster job with this bridge burning on the podcast. (Honestly might not even matter cuz the costreams and content are just that undeniably class)
Also a quick shoutout to some female casters moxi and ceebee i think are actually great casters. Moxi especially sounds very knowledgeable, that lass would be predicting teamfights before it happens.
I've been thinking about this as well. I hope it doesn't matter, but 'the establishment' seem very much against criticism. I love everything X produces and think he's the best thing that ever happened to competitive Overwatch content, so he would be an undeniably great addition to the main broadcast. His casting is top notch, especially when he controls the camera himself. He could be running the show on his own (he already is on the costream)!
I love Moxi and Ceebee as well. They're great and have been grinding for a while. Definitely deserve more success.

not sure if you guys get to every comment, but I did want to offer some insight as someone who plays and watches Competitive Pokemon every weekend. Nekkra has a poor understanding of that game as well. Any cast where she is paired with a strong caster (Aaron Zheng or Scott Glaza), her blocks are passable. But if she's with an equally subpar caster, the broadcast is actually unwatchable, and for the same reasons. Objective incorrect analysis, or misplaced hype.

It's not about not having a dive comp, it's about having the same core players for a long time.
Of course they have more team chemistry than, for example, Ence, but that means that there isn't much more potential to improve.
That's why teams like M80 or Ence will be better in the long run compared to in the early stages, because of course they have more potential to improve than well stablished teams

the thing with the casters that I (not a flex or some cringe shit) do play the game in gm so I know whats going on without the casters so just mute it most of the time, the takes are totally right about them nothing personal, some of the stuff the casters say is just wrong or not true or makes no sense if you play the game higher than plat 1 idk
The thing is even for low ranks the resources to educate yourself are out there. If casting was my job I'd be watching as many important matches as possible and also look at content/reviews from OWL coaches. I wonder what they are doing that some of them still seem so lost.
