    This week’s film breakdown analyzes the Los Angeles Rams pass-rushing duo of Aaron Donald and Von Miller. The pair has carried the Rams through the playoffs accumulating pressures, hurries, hits, and sacks at will, and now the Rams are headed to the Super Bowl. Each of the future hall of fame pass rushers use their own tricks to get to the QB, but there’s much more than just that. The Rams use alignment, skill and strategy to put it all together, and the results are championship caliber. This week’s episode uses the all-22 coaches film to analyze the Los Angeles Rams pass rushers Aaron Donald and Von Miller as they head into the Super Bowl.

      I have been reading this all week. I as much as I think this is true... I also know that CIN is not going to come out and just fold. They will have some plans to try and avoid the pass rush. I was really surprised to see the Rams rushing five as a matter of course more and more throughout the season. Since McVay came on they've been known as kind of a conservative defense coverage wise. A lot of zone or mixed zone man with the idea to make the other team inch their way down the field if they can. But rushing five on every first and second down has been an incredibly simple but incredibly effective strategy that they've used more and more as the season has gone on. I legitimately think that, along with adding Von Miller, is what has kicked the Rams' defense into overdrive. You have to play to your strengths and they do that by not only rushing five but rushing five D linemen/OLBs. It just gives the O line a LOT to think about and the idea that every O lineman will win their one on one is basically absurd with the guys the Rams have.

    As a lifetime Rams fan since 1980, I was very impressed with their defense now. Especially after Von joined the Rams. I used to not really watch the opposing team take the field on offense, but since Von came to the Rams, now I never missed watching when Rams are on defense. It's correct if it's not because NFL rule in the Super Bowl where they have to pick the MVP of the game at a two-minute warning in 4Q, I think AD should be the pick. But Copper Kupp is so deserving as well. His Jet Sweep helped us extend the Rams' last drive in the 4Q when the Bengals' defense got caught off guard at fourth and one.

    • @patrickmontoya2770
      @patrickmontoya2770 Před 2 lety

      Yup that Jet Sweep was the key play (gutsy call) to extending the drive. They used to run that play a lot when McVay first took over, but over the years they have used it sparingly. I liken it to the old Green Bay Packers "power sweep" of the 60s. Almost guarantees 5 yards at least.

      If it's any consolation, Aaron Donald is the subject of more uncalled holding penalties than maybe anyone I've ever seen. And I watched Reggie White's & Lawrence Taylor's careers...
      So there will still be opportunities for JB to make the winning plays. He's shown himself as incredibly resilient in overcoming pressure & even sacks/long-distance third downs. He may not yet be the craftsman that Brady has been all this time...but he's got wheels, & a better arm. I'd say he's even better vs pressure...and he obviously doesn't fear 3rd & very long, because he'll take a sack if he can't safely get the throwaway off (even the pretty mobile JimmyG suffered in that situation, deciding on the fly that the Niners could not handle the loss of all that time plus the 10 or so yds he was going to lose on the sack by Aaron Donald, so he chucked it, & it got picked to end the game.
      I feel like JB would have taken the sack & quickly got his team to the line & come up with SOMETHING. Or not...that's how it goes with true gunslingers...nobody is perfect.

    • @faveology
      @faveology Před 2 lety +2

      @@ignoblesavage5559 Go watch any elite pass rusher film from the last 3 years. They all get held. Holding is only and should only ever be called if it is egregious. The defensive line has a HUGE advantage over the offensive line and the best pass blocking offensive lines (such as the Packers) are taught how to legally hold. As long as you're holding between the shoulders, it'll never get called

    • @ignoblesavage5559
      @ignoblesavage5559 Před 2 lety

      @@faveology you have to know I'm not talking about "legal holding," right? I'm not slow, Chuck. I've watched (or played, in HS) football my whole life.
      And yes, all elite pass rushers get held. Do you know WHY they get held sir? Right now I'm assuming you know youre ALSO smart enough to think of at least a reasonable answer to that question, but I'll say it anyway.
      It happens when the o-linemen get BEAT. Guess who wins his matches with o-linemen more than any player in the last decade (or more)? Yessir, AD. AND, he often wins by putting them off-balance with speed h then overwhelms with power, which leads to even more egregious holds.
      So yeah, all the great pass rushers get held. All pass rushers get "LEGALLY HELD." But AD gets ILLEGALLY HELD (or just tackled) more than anyone else playing.
      Really didn't think i'd have to explain or justify or clarify that statement 🤔 . I was SURE it was already obvious to anyone who watches the game...but maybe you just never watch the rams? At any rate, now I'm hoping you don't fire back some scenario where tackling, tripping, holding under both armpits & around the back, or holding of the NECK are legal. 😉

    I hope the Rams win. But I have a couple of concerns. The Rams defense sometimes gets burned on passes. If the Bengals OL can slow down the Rams DL just enough, Burrows can hit his passing targets. With this video and some of the comments sounds like the Rams defense should've been more overpowering keeping teams from scoring too much. However, the D has allowed teams to almost beat them. They blew strong leads. Something else. Who will have the better heart? Which team will be more motivated? The Bengals haven't been in the SB for years. Aren't they considered to be the underdogs? On uniforms the Rams have won the more including the playoff games with the Royal/Yellow. Since the Bengals are the home team, they had 1st choice in color combinations. They choose the black jersey/white pants. Forcing the Rams to wear white jerseys/yellow pants with this uniform they lost a few games.

    Beautiful, pinpoint analysis...this is one of the key points in the Rams' advantage over the Bengals' not-so-great O-Line. On occasion, the Rams lineup 5 on the front line...should we call them the Fearsome Fivesome?
    I've been a Los Angeles Rams fan since 1969 and have never been more proud of this defense. What they did in the three playoff games this season was great. Keep it up boys and bring the Lombardi Trophy to Los Angeles.
    HORNS UP!!!

    NFL is fine with either team winning. Although I'd venture to say they want the Rams more than anything. No difference than last year how they wanted the Bucs to win. The NFL WANTS small market teams (Bengals, KC, etc) to look competitive, but at the end of the day they want their big market teams to win it all (Rams, Bucs, etc)

    If rams secondary has a bad game then the pass rush is irrelevant cus brrr just gotta rid of the ball quick. Rams soft coverage gives up close easy yards. You can eat the clock up if ur continuously successful. Now u win possession n neutralized the pass rush. That would make it a close game

    Cincinnati is playing with house money they weren't supposed to be here so the pressure shouldn't get to them to much the Rams got more pressure been at home ,putting all their chips on the table by getting Stratford, OBJ,Millet,Ramsey to win it all now so if they can't just takeout the Bengals early and let the game stay close for 4 quarters Bengals got a good shot at a Title
