- A year ago I won an interrail ticket which allowed me to travel through Europe for free.
This year, during spring, I decided to activate my pass and go on my first solo backpacking trip ever.
Now, at the age of nineteen, I'm looking back on an amazing trip. I saw so many places, met the most wonderful people and grew as a person.

Heyy, just received an email saying im qualified for the discoverEU interrail :))) I just wanted to ask how did u meet people on your trip (cuz im also planning to do a solo). And were there moments u felt lonely or not?

To answer your first question: stay in hostels! Only stay in airbnbs (or hotels) if you want to be alone. If you want to meet people hostels are the perfect place to do that. Many hostels also have activities which you can sign op for with the very purpose of bringing people together. I also met some amazing people while doing free walking tours. I truly believe travelling solo is the best way to meet new people.
And yes, there were definitely moments in which I felt lonely. Most of them were when I got to a new city (or country) where everything was unfamiliar. Especially after meeting amazing people and then separating again. I think it’s normal though, and those moments are so worth all the good moments. What helped me was using Polar Steps (a travel app). In there I wrote what I was doing and how I was feeling. My closest family and friends followed my polar steps and so whenever I was feeling lonely I could call someone (mostly my sister) and she would know what was happening. I must say though, I felt far less lonely than I expected beforehand!

Looks like you had an amazing trip. I've been planning for my own so videos like these are really helpful. Cinque Terre looks absolutely stunning. I knew Italy was a pretty country, but damn. Might just have to add that to my list. Out of curiosity, which locations were your favourite?

The Cinque Terre were really beautiful indeed. It’s called cinque terre cause it’s 5 towns located at the coast of Italy. (So I stayed in Genoa and visited from there.) You can hike from city to city or easily take trains between them. Would suggest to go when it’s not high season though, I’ve heard it’s very crowded during summer.
It really depends on what your looking for in your trip. But my favorites were:
- Prague, because of the culture and architecture there. Would also highly recommend doing a walking tour there!
- Bled, or rather Slovenia in general, because of the breathtaking scenery.

@@RoosNoa Thank you for the response. I'm going with a friend, and we're both nature people so places like that definitely stand out for us. Slovenia is definitely on the list for that reason too. I've heard good things about Prague and it does look brilliant, so I'll definitely look into that as well. Thank you for the tips!

looks like an amazing journey! i'm heading on my own interrail adventure in two weeks - do you have any recommendations on trips around Bled? Your shots from there look unreal!
Thank you! And yes. So I stayed in Bled (definitely worth the visit, go to the viewpoint) and you can easily get to other places by bus.
I would highly recommend hiking in Stara Fuzina, starting from lake Bohinj. This is were I made the waterfall shots, it was truly breathtaking.
I also met quite some people that gave me recommendations. I’m gonna go back to Slovenia in a couple of weeks and I’m so excited to see the following things:
- Soca valley
- Vintgar Gorge: especially this one! It was closed when I was in Slovenia but it’s open now. Can’t wait to see it!!

I'm going on interrail as well in may. It's going to be Germany, Austria, Slovenia and Croatia. Also doing this trip alone.

love the vlog!! I'm hoping to do the DiscoverEU program, and whilst I'm waiting for applications to open I'm doing yt research, and so videos like yours are useful for getting an idea of what the program is like.
I have a question, when it came to the quiz part of the application process, how did you find it? I know there are 5 questions; are they easy questions that can be figured out using common sense or does it require having good geographical knowledge? also, was the tie-breaker question where you have to guess a number difficult? (as someone who sucks at geography i'm a bit worried lol)

the questions were very straightforward, especially since there are links below to find the answer to each question. the April 2024 questions were:

2. Where can you find the map of events of the European Youth Week 2024?
3. Which is the European Youth Capital 2024?
4. Which are the European Capitals of Culture in 2024?
5. What is the #EUBeachCleanup?
The subsidiary question for this round was:
How many aplicants for this round have their birthday in April?

I'm planning my own solo trip this year, but I still don't know if I want to travel with a suitcase or a backpack. Right now I think I prefer a suitcase, but as I see you were traveling with a backpack, I was wondering what you think the advantages are from traveling with a backpack opposed to a suitcase?

Hey! I get your struggle. I think a backpack is perfect if you have to climb hills or walk a lot of stairs. I prefer a backpack over a suitcase cause you have your hands free while walking and I wanted to be able to climb hills and stairs without much struggle. However, if you want to travel rather short distances with your luggage and prefer a suitcase I think a suitcase will work perfectly for you. Hope this helps! ❤️

Heyyy, It is an incredible film that you have made, but I just wanted to ask If you did not feel unsafe sometimes, for example while hiking or staying alone in hostels? I also won a discoverEU interrail, and am planning to do a solo trip as well but I am quite afraid about my own safety.
Hey! Congrats on winning the interrail pass :) To answer your question, I have never really felt unsafe during my interrail. There were a few things I did to make that happen. I made sure to never go out alone at night and only go out in the dark with people I trusted. Try to arrive in new cities during the day and not night. Also, for hostels, check the reviews!!! That helps so much with figuring out if the place is safe or not. I feel like overall Europe is a pretty safe continent. However use your common sense and your gut feeling at all times. And you’ll be fine. Hope this helps! :)
