I was just down there the end of May in Orange Beach for 5 nights on the beach. I absolutely loved my retirement gift from my brother. I was looking for a condo called Victoria Place, and the HOA fee went from 225 a month to 425 a month. That's absolutely crazy. I am still looking down that way.
My hoa is not expensive but it aeems like all the nice houses have hoas and i jus dont like that thwy dictate what i can do or even park in my driveway
You mention that property taxes are low but your example showed $1200 a month for property taxes which is $14,400 a year. Wow! Was that a typo? My property taxes in AZ is only $1559 a year. Big difference

it really depends on your lifestyle, how you choose to live, eat and play. you can get a lot more bang for your buck in Alabama. You can live in Alabama and don't have to do HOA fees, and a few other things. just do your homework and you can avoid that and live well for a good price. Its way way way cheaper then Florida and many other states. hands down!

Every HOA is different and people like to talk about the negatives... you'd be surprised how many people are happy with their HOA
