  • The Lord’s Coming Kingdom
    (Micah 4:1-13)
    I. It will be a Prominent Kingdom (v. 1-8)
    A. In the last days, the Lord will reign over the world (V.1).
    a. It was a specific timeframe in the future.
    B. Jerusalem will be the World’s Religious, Educational and Political Capitol under Christ, in the Millennial Kingdom. (v.2-8)
    a. The Millennial and Messianic Kingdom are two facets of one Kingdom:
    b. The O.T. Prophets & Messiah’s Millennial Reign:
    1. God will live among His people (Joel 3:17).
    2. Jerusalem will shout for joy (Zephaniah 3:14-17).
    3. Jerusalem will be rebuilt larger and stronger (Zech 2:1-5)
    4. Jerusalem will be characterized by peace, truth, and justice (Zech 8:1-8).
    5. Jerusalem will be the central capitol of all nations as Jesus rules and reigns (Zech 8:20-22).
II. It will be a Planned Kingdom (v. 9-13)
    A. Several events precede this final, planned kingdom:
    a. Judah will be exiled and rescued from Babylon. (v.9-10)
    b. Israel will be oppressed by many nations in both a near and far context. (v.11-13)
    1. Near Fulfillment - In the near view Micah predicted the Babylonian Captivity and stated that the nations would welcome the destruction of Israel (v. 11). Micah predicted, however, that in the end the nations would be broken into pieces and their wealth would be devoted to the Lord (v. 13). This was fulfilled in the Babylonian Captivity.
    2. Far Fulfillment - If Micah 4:11 refers to Micah’s time, then verses 12-13 seem to point ahead to Jerusalem will thresh those nations and the LORD will fight on Israel’s behalf against them. This battle-the Battle of Armageddon will take place when the Messiah-King returns to establish the kingdom. The things Israel will capture in battle will be devoted to the LORD, whom Micah rightly calls the LORD of all the earth.
    3. The Future Benefit for Israel and the Church - During the thousand-year reign of Christ, the prophecies and promises of the Old Testament prophets will be fulfilled, and that is another major purpose of the Millennium….When He comes the second time, He will come to rule this world in righteousness; and…the Lord’s dominion will stretch from sea to sea.”
III. It will be a Particular Kingdom (John 3:1-18)
    A. The Kingdom is particular, in that it is not for everyone:
    a. It is only for those who have been born from above or again (3:1-6).
    1. Jesus said it requires two elements:
~ Water - A metaphor used for the cleansing agent from sin. (Ezek. 36:24-28)
~ Spirit - The indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit.
    2. How the Holy Spirit work’s at the time of Salvation:
~ One hears the gospel. (Rom 10:17; 1 Cor. 15:3-4)
~ The Spirit “quickens” the person (Ezk. 36:25-27)
~ The hearer then exercises faith and believes. (Acts 16:14; Phil. 1:29; John 3:16
    b. The kingdom is only for those who believe or trust in Christ by means of saving faith.
    c. Three Facets of Saving Faith:
    1. Gospel data - One must hear and receive the good news of the Gospel in order to be saved from his or her sin.
    2. Mental Assent - One must believe the content of the data concerning the Gospel.
    3. Personal Trust - One must personally trust and accept the truth of the Gospel with a view to loving the Lord, repenting of sin, and being His follower as Jesus is our Savior, Lord, and King.
    Point to Ponder:
Entrance into the kingdom is by faith alone in Christ alone. Do you know Him as your personal sin bearer and have you trusted in Him by faith?
